traditional online hybrid and flipped videos can be the primary instruction for an online or hybrid environment but also to reinforce concepts taught in class we offer four different types of hands-on labs let's start with the skills labs these labs introduce students to office features by walking them through a sequence of individual tasks in this lab we're learning about simple formulas in excel and once we see that prompt that we did the task correctly we can move on to the next task skills labs intentionally guide students through different ways of completing similar assignments at any point we can view the remaining tasks skip ahead or come back to those that we may have struggled with office pro includes help options for students struggling with the hands-on concepts the first is to ask for a hint which will provide us with the written steps needed to complete the task the second option is to view a show me video these short videos show how to complete the assignment we believe in using drill in practice to make sure students retain the skills they learn if a hint or a show me video is used students must complete the task again without help to receive credit labsim tracks the use of the help options providing a summary of the tasks completed in all the labs students are provided with a description of the exercises and how to complete them effectively some of the tasks determine what method of completion should be used but in many cases students have the option to complete exercises in multiple ways challenge labs are similar to the skills labs students are still guided through a sequence of steps but these labs are timed and challenge students to better their skills increase confidence and improve speed we can see the tasks in the challenge lab are related to those that we viewed in the skills lab now this follows the drill and practice framework students are still provided a hint button but not the show me option to receive full credit for the lab they must be able to complete each task without help each challenge lab includes three different question sets so students see a completely new set on multiple attempts again office pro labs allow multiple paths to completion not every task will detail the method to use allowing you to complete the task the way you want to the third type of labs are the applied labs these move from a task based scenario to a realistic scenario testing students on their ability to connect their knowledge for example they may need to format a resume or organize a budget spreadsheet applied labs are also timed but they don't offer hints or help allowing accurate student testing students can change the formatting font colors column sizes and really make the document their own as long as they complete those tasks when we score the lab we see that even with all of the formatting changes we're still given credit for the work that we completed details of how to complete the task correctly are listed in the lab report scores are instantly recorded so teachers can see when the labs were completed how long it took how many attempts have been made and where students may be struggling again with test out simulations everything runs in the browser and there are no required downloads ensuring that all students get the same learning experience in the most up-to-date version of office all they need is a computer and the internet live project labs are the final piece of the hands-on learning experience these labs are brand new as of august 2020 and are optional assessments where students must prove their capabilities in live office applications to complete the live project labs students must have microsoft office installed on their computer these labs have been designed around comprehensive real-world scenarios such as creating and reporting sales data in excel building an executive presentation in powerpoint or creating a sales information sheet in word when we launch the project labsim automatically recognizes the installed version of office and launches the application this works on both a mac and a pc with microsoft office 2010 and newer instructions can be viewed with dual monitors or we can split the screen when working with just one monitor the test out browser is placed on one side and the office application on the other as we work through the tasks we can check each one for completion we can also easily launch the in-application instructions with the test out task guide now this does require installing a microsoft office plugin but you only got to do it once after each task we recommend saving the document this uploads the progress to our secure test out cloud server we can then close the document and resume our work on any computer even if it's a different version of office saving is also important for scoring and we track each document ensuring students don't upload somebody else's work when we open the task guide we see all of the tasks and we can move through each section live projects don't require students to follow a set path so they can customize documents to fit their individual styles without affecting the end result we simply click the score button and receive a score and instant feedback the score is uploaded to the instructor gradebook and the document is now available for instructors to view their students work in addition to learning the concepts we strongly believe in certification to provide students a way to validate their skills office pro prepares students for several mos exams each office pro license also includes a complimentary voucher to take test out's own office pro certification a 100 percent performance based exam many instructors use the test out pro certification as a final exam allowing 2021 we'll be rolling out new features that add mos exam practice labs and improvement to the mos practice test in this example you can see that we provided a new lab interface that offers a similar experience to the mos exam small projects are provided that include multiple tasks in this new interface and these tasks can be flagged for review or marked as complete when finished we click on submit project and we're returned right to labsoon where you can launch the next project in the exam as part of these improvements we've also doubled the number of available tasks and made major enhancements to existing labs in the new practice test ui interface both projects and tasks are visible and when you click submit project the new projects load automatically without returning to the lab sim page once the practice exam is complete an expanded score report will show a breakdown of the objectives tested in addition to the overall score exam details show students further insight into what topics they know well and what they need to study individual responses reporting allows students to see what tasks they performed incorrectly and also provides links to the associated office pro sections in this release we will also introduce a domain practice tool for mos exam preparation which helps the students know which exam domains that they are prepared for each domain section offers linked practice labs for learning and skill evaluation to launch a new lab from the domain practice tool simply click on the lab icon at the top of the window once the domain labs are complete students can view a domain mastery report that includes a percentage analysis for each domain topic a detailed objective by objective report and the individual responses tab in the domain practice summary we have the option to only deliver labs in the areas we have missed or to start fresh with a new domain analysis each objective also has a link to the related course content the work in each
