If it's in the standard "pdf" format, the only reason it's showing up as an actual file, instead of a "plaintext" page is because the pdf is already open and has the contents "plain text".
Then just click on "Add" and change it to the name you gave your first paper. Then, save again, and then click "Done". The file will now show up as a text file in a "text" format.
