possible to see our videos with all your likes shares and comments and let's talk about leaving wheels okay so will you just briefly explain what a living will is absolutely in Georgia you have the right to control your health and medical care a living will says that says what you want to have happen when you cannot tell people it is most often used for end-of-life decisions so what might keep you from telling people what you want if you are disabled incapacitated meaning you're not able to talk or may not be conscious or incompetent let's say if you are unable to care for yourself or make decisions perhaps due to Alzheimer's it is a living will all that you need to let people know what you want in regards to your health care in Georgia no you should have both a durable power of attorney or health care and the living will that's what we recommend and there are those two separate documents they can be or they can be combined in one if they're combined into one they are called advanced directive for health care in Georgia so some people also call them health care directives or health care proxies and we'll talk about the power of attorney more in a nut video with being able to decide what medical care you get can you also determine what you don't get right right you can decide before it becomes an issue what type of procedures you want to sustain your life or delay that can you give us some examples sure you may want to address in your living will if food water oxygen should be withheld or withdrawn in certain limited circumstances however keep in mind that Georgia does not allow you to say you don't want a feeding tube if you cannot eat so if you know that that's what you want and you don't want that to happen it's good to have an agent assigned in your power of attorney so it can express that and if your living will always followed it should be in Georgia it should be in Georgia but in in specific circumstances and like I said before there's limited circumstances so if you suffer from one of the following either a terminal illness a coma with no reasonable expectation of recovery or a persistent vegetative state with no reasonable expectation of regaining significant cognitive function and what do you mean by a terminal illness a terminal illness or as defining the law a terminal condition means an incredible condition caused by disease illness or injury that will eventually cause that no matter what the doctors do and who decides that it's terminal or incurable I'm Georgia law requires two doctors must personally examine you and certify in writing that you will not recover and will eventually die from the condition does a doctor have to follow your living room yes the health care provider must follow them just as they would as if you were telling them what you wanted in person and some people refer to a living will is a DNR do-not-resuscitate are they the same thing I know they are in a DNR order is an order at the health care facility you're at beat a hospital or long-term long-term care facility or if you're receiving care home and that order tells people who work there not to perform life savings measures such as CPR for you in case moved case of emergency do you need to tell your doctor about your living well yes it is always a good idea to do so and when we talked about a will the one about your property they had to be written and witnessed is that true as well for living well yes um the Willing the leaving will must be also in writing and has to be signed by at least two witnesses and are there any restrictions on who can be the witnesses yes they cannot be someone who would profit from your death like someone who would inherit from from you if you died what about if someone moved here from another state and they already had a living will do they have to get a new one well it is always a good idea to have an attorney review it just to make sure it complies with the current laws here in Georgia and then who keeps a copy of your living will you do and you should also give it to people you trust you can give a copy to your doctor but remember if you decide to revoke it you need to inform anyone who has a copy so if someone changes their mind can they just tear up three living well you can revoke one I recommend having a written document stating the living will you sign on X date is now revoked especially if several people have copies of it it would be terrible if one of them will produce that when your intent was to revoke it and not having no longer valid but that's why
