summer is officially here and with it peak season for carbine but this year there's been a major wrench thrown into the works a massive Cyber attack on the software many dealerships Nationwide use for almost everything has brought operations to a near screeching halt we can't cut checks we can't service cars everything has to be done by hand at McKenna Audi Porsche BMW just outside La owner Danny McKinnis says paperwork is now turning a simple car sale into a half day of Fair discouraging many customers here we are more than a week in do you have any clear answers here no we're just told um any day any time and we're just waiting like everybody else does in Austin Town Ohio Justin Bradley says his team at Jim shki Auto Group dug up a typewriter to help fill out forms we are hand doing contracts and hand doing paperwork the challenge is arising after software provider cdk Global said it experienced a Cyber attack and proactively shut down most of our systems cyber security experts say the attack appears to be the work of a sophisticated group from Eastern Europe will cdk be able to come back online or will they just launch and try and replace the entire system with new software if they can't get uh some sort of ransomware settlement the company says we understand and share the urgency for our customers to get back to business as usual in the meantime experts say if you're looking to buy a car or get one Serv contact your dealership to see what your options are expect to visit the DMV rather than have your dealer automatically do your registration and be patient dealers still have plenty of inventory it just may take longer to drive it off the lot you may find the vehicle that you want what you may have trouble doing is getting the paperwork and everything through the system as quickly as you would like Morgan any indication when all the dealerships will get back online yeah Chanel some good news overnight cdk is saying they've finally been able to bring a small group of their dealers back online but considering the fact that they have 15,000 Nationwide even they don't know how many total businesses have been impacted here and cyber experts say it is still too early to tell if personal data has been compromised so at least for the time being still a bit of a bumpy road ahead Chanel all right Morgan thank you hey thanks for watching don't miss the Today's Show every weekday at 11:00 a.m. a.m. eastern 8 Pacific on our streaming Channel today all day to watch head to today.com allay or click the link right here
