[Music] what's going on guys happy Saturday at least at the time recording this video today we're gonna be talking a little bit about my experience with AT&T b2b sales internship program I knew for the longest time you know ever since I finally decided to become financially free that I wanted to work in sales you know a lot of the influence there's people I follow people I read you know they started saying little sales was the biggest way for them to truly learn not only how to communicate properly but how do you know effectively be able to understand people to understand their needs to understand value my financial empire I want to build that on the support of helping others and that's that's what sales is all about I'm gonna lay this video out with a bunch of positives and then I'm gonna go into the negatives as few as they are mostly because I want to be able to cover every aspect of the program instead of just shining a bright light on it you know that's what my channel is all balancers bringing truth to the industry no matter what industry that I work in and there's truly you know kind of sharing my experiences from my perspectives I think that this is incredibly important and that includes the negatives so to start off you know if I if I had to sum this up in the best way possible this internship program was amazing and once again I knew what I was getting into sales isn't for everybody I realized there are a lot of people that walked out of this and realize that they don't want a cold call and you know for a long majority of they're there the beginning of their career well I walked in and I realized that yeah this is not you know something that that's gonna be permanent and yeah you're gonna have to bear with a lot of the cool coin but there's so much to be learned there I learned so much about the inner workings of a corporate company like 18t and I also realized so much about the fact that this is not like any other company you know AT&T they value their employees this truly is a cutthroat sales position you know when you come into the full time role I was just so you know I was just amazed at you know all this these extra things outside of that that I wasn't expecting you know I was just very happy that they were providing all this opportunity to us interns and the full-timers and I think it was just really cool we got to attend a stadium tour of 18z Stadium and this is incredible you know I'm not a huge huge football fan but the Dallas Cowboys you know we have two locker rooms we have to walk on the field we got to spend some time on there throw the football around it was so cool you know just the ability to you know see one of the largest I think the largest stadium screen in the country was just incredible so we got to go to the Rangers game which was really cool just in the middle of the day we got to take off some time at work and go and I believe we still got paid for it which was incredible so this is what I mean it was a little bit of fluff at the same time I understand why 18t did they want to bring us back they want to show us that hey this company you know these are the things that for like what better words this is revealing what's possible with the opportunities that 18t has not only for its employees but you know for the future for the community as interns we were fortunate to get free meals and free housing so we got three meals a day with the exception of Fridays and then weekends we're on our own and you know that's understandable with the salary that we were getting it made sense you know honestly even the free meals that's something you don't see at a majority of companies that if they were to bring you on for for an internship we're all for your student or something like that you know they would never provide that even the housing that's something that's incredibly rare housing usually comes before the meals the Middle's was just an added bonus and they were very good meals I'll tell you that right now and you get to live pretty much right next to where you work they allowed us to tour other facilities that AT&T has such as Xander of course we went down to the Dallas headquarters and though we didn't directly meet Randle is entirely possible we could have ran into them in the elevator we did get to talk to and chow which was incredible we got to tour the AT&T foundry which was really cool we have two tours ander which is incredible yet I'm not sure exactly what I'm allowed to talk about so I won't describe those two areas that being said they were just extra divisions within AT&T that provide value in ways that you know you wouldn't normally think about again tt isn't just the phone and Internet company there's so much outside of that not just 5g but there's so much that they're working on right now that I think is really gonna enhance the future you know you think about the 80s history there's just so much history there ever since like Alexander Graham Bell period that I was about to say cell phone but ever since he created the first telephone you know that it all started with that so ATT's lineage goes all the way back there and you know what other company can you think of that has this much history behind them that can provide this much value and owns that infrastructure they give us opportunities to attend talks town halls we have fiber ride-alongs where we actually got to go out with some of the field fiber sellers if you're not sure what that is ATT fiber is essentially business fiber internet if you're familiar with consumer and business fiber internet it was much much faster by almost a hundred times and we got to go out with the people that are responsible for managing a certain set of zip codes and essentially ride with them walk into companies talk to people hold meetings because I know some of the some of the interns and some of their fiber sellers got to do bagel days with their with their buildings so they essentially were in the lobby you know talking to clients talking to potential customers as well as existing customers and just being able to work with them from a lot of the full-time people I saw I saw such a wide variety of personalities and that's something that you don't really see you know you often see some of the most extroverted party people whenever you think the corporate and ATT certainly had that but it also had the other side of the coin you know you saw people so many put personalities and I think that interdisciplinary approach I think was incredibly important you know definitely a bunch of majors in that company came out that I could learn the amount of variety that they have in the amount of people I could meet with different backgrounds I think it's just incredible finally they also let us volunteer for Feed My Starving Children which I know a lot of high schools do that my own high school they let us do that pretty often and you know that's something I participated in back then so it was a really nice call back you know volunteering it's always great you just that ten weeks alone it showed us just how much eating T actually does care about the people that it's serving you know it cares about employees being actively engaged when I was learning a little bit about what the full-time role was like I was reading that there's a lot more opportunities like that you know that there will be a lot more ways to be more philanthropic to volunteer more to be able to just give back to society beyond just working at and I think that's incredibly important also now in terms of the sales position itself I feel like I've been talking about all the fluff provided in the program every internship every company gives you purse to stay there and you know I want to move beyond that I want to talk about the actual job itself emt had an incredible amazing and friendly management team everybody was just so nice so long to help you they've all been through the program itself so you weren't being managed by someone that's never cold called in their life but these trainers are so full of energy they they want us all to learn they're there to make sure everything is easily understandable you ask them questions they're so responsive to them they uh they answer them the best way possible but we have the freedom to explore we have no quota and that really gave us the ability to learn as much as possible because then we're worrying instead about the company its values its morals the other people we're getting to know the different aspects of the company we're getting to know what the cold-calling process is like being able to experiment create different talk tracks being able to experiment and create different you know just pieces of dialogue that you would say on the phone try new things here try new things here again since there was no quota it'd just be gave us that ability gave us that flexibility and I thought that was the best learning experience possible as an intern there was no risk if we got a meeting and we didn't want to do it ourselves we could pass it out to her full-time mentor so our job was primarily lead generation so we would call up people you know say sensitive selected not a sales manager but an IT manager or someone in charge of idea a company that we can talk to that we could communicate with and set up a meeting with because they are the most knowledgeable about what say internet or phone service that they have but we were mostly responsible for 18 t fiber and then additional things on the side but I thought that was really cool is just a great way to be able to experiment on how you approach customer how you would learn to get past the gatekeeper everybody was so accepting and you know just the abilities that mean say someone from 10x or to meet someone like Josh Cohen for example on one of my earlier interviews I'll link that on screen as well who's doing a lot with stocks and you know just I'll learn the amount that I did from him for example I thought that was really cool it made me a better just better person both personally professionally and just a matter networker you know I've learned you know networking something that were never really taught at schools we're always told that we need to do it we're never really taught and though I've done some of it here at Purdue I never thought I had a good grasp on it until my time at AT&T but before I get to had it myself I do want to talk a little bit about some of the small negatives that have experienced in the program is welcome so there was one major thing that that really did worry me in terms of just the entrance and the structure that we had again everybody was so accepting and the interns included but I felt like out of the full timers and the interesting him the other interns I was with there were 50 of us it was definitely a very cliquey structure it reminded me a lot of high school people were very willing to just hang around the people that had their own interests and you know it was a lot of the partiers you know there were a lot of people from frats and sororities and things like that and though I don't discount Greek life I think Greek life is incredible and if I could go back I would very much join a professional frat because I think that there's so much value there I think that it was just very unfortunate to see that we didn't have a wide range of essentially recruit recruitment when it came to the internship program we had a lot of people that were for lack of better words not so much caring about the job they didn't care so much about the company they didn't care about the position you know for a lot of these people ATT was the last choice and they just accepted the internship because it was one of their only choices and you know unfortunately that kind of led to a lot of people not really liking the company they made it a very kind of negative place to kind of walk into whenever I was around them I remember I was around full-time people I would always say I had a lot more friends within the full time group than the interns and that was mostly because you know I myself I consider myself as someone that has a very hard work ethic and you know coming in you know I also love to go out and things like that but there's always some balance but it felt like I was almost being forced to be super social because everybody was going up and once again this is just the interns everybody was going out for it's a happy hour or you know staying up till like 1:00 2:00 a.m. partying or using the pool at times that they weren't supposed to you know these were things that let's it's like look we're all adults like this is not something that that is a good kind of environment to be in I always felt bad if I wasn't doing enough if say I wasn't going out every single night or things like that it was just that that feeling I've never felt anywhere else it was so weird but it felt like it almost hindered my ability to continue being me if that makes sense and the only thing that kept me grounded was you know again my friends within the full-time group or a couple my intern friends when we need to be more selective I think that the companies to be a little bit more selective because at the other day it just creates more value and creates more I guess motivation for each other you know that was one thing near the end of the program I kind of slacked off a little bit and I know it's not an excuse because but when you see 49 other interns slacking off then you see foreign and other people not caring so much about the job it just it makes the motivation much harder makes it hard to go into every work every single day makes it hard to get on the phone and makes it hard to be able to do things because it's like no one else is providing any value you feel like you're pulling all the weight yourself I also wouldn't appreciate a one with that a little bit more prospecting training I feel like that could have led to a little bit more definitely more leads for sure and that's something that I learned too late in the program you know I was I finally created a kind of plan for myself to prospect properly but unfortunately since it was very late in the program yeah I wasn't able to really generate anything and I I feel very bad for that I wish I would have received more training on the prospect and rather than the cold calling but I understand them that everybody has the same cold calling experience that I've had so for that a lot of that cold calling training was very much necessary and then these are just small nitpicky things at the end we are in the middle of nowhere especially if you don't have a car and made it very difficult to get around there's only so much I can walk to I think the closest store per se was to 7-eleven so you know thankfully then everybody was nice enough to carpool together and things like that and then I probably use uber last summer more than I've ever used uber in my entire lives there's not much they can do I understand that Irving is just a very wide open place I'm in the gym in the laundry room very small I just wanted to provide a reality check in terms of what I've experienced both in terms of positives and negatives with my time at AT&T so this way if you're coming in safer the 20/20 internship you kind of know what to expect like I said 18 T's been an incredible opportunity to work with I love the company I love the people and there's a lot of people that I knew that I really enjoy spending time with that are coming back there's a lot of full timers they still stay in contact with the company the brand our mission statement our value towards the community our value towards our employees and then just to the general understanding of how much I'm going to gain from us from a sales position and ATT the very cutthroat kind of cold calling position you know the value that I'm going to gain through that really excited for this is an outstanding internship opportunity if you want to try sales this would be a great place to start just understand it's gonna be a lot of work sales is hard but like you've got to be willing to put in the effort and then everything else will follow I am one of the biggest introverts you can ever beat and the fact that I like sales I like the idea of sales I enjoy polka enjoy interacting with customers it's just it's it's something that proves that sales truly can be for everybody it's a learned skill if you're just interested in the telecommunications industry in general because there's so much opportunity for lateral movement with AT&T listen if you don't end up like in sales I can guarantee you you'll find a connection I'll be able to say move it to finance move it to tech move it to Xander move it to any one of these areas because there's just so much value that agency brings there's so much talent that they have and there's so many people you can meet this is a great way of being able to work for a fortune diamond company that'll teach you so much about how corporate works how business works how sales works and just how people work and I think that's that's you know at the end of a the most important part of sales is to help people with all that being said thank
