handyman here coming at you raw uncut but not unedited i want to take a moment to share some knowledge you know you're a small business right you're looking you're asking yourself how do i get customers how do i get people to call me buying leads that's one way and when it comes to buying leads home advisor is the top dog also known as angie's list so the way it works is customer logs onto angie's they say uh looking for handyman right and then angie's takes that and distributes it to a bunch of people registered under handyman now obviously only one gets the job you getting that name number and address they charge anywhere from twenty to two hundred dollars two hundred dollars being more on the business part if the customer is a business and it also depends on the project so as a contractor to be on angie's list well about 320 a year somewhere in that ballpark also you have to spend a minimum of about 200 a month in leads is it worth the investment that's the question no no when you're small you don't have hundreds of dollars to just throw away on numbers like think about this i've had this conversation think about this who uses angie's list what kind of people use that server people that call a well-established company in whatever project they need done and that company gives them a price well they don't like that price or they can't think they can save a few dollars by calling you or me so think about that you're gonna have to go way under market to win the job now what's your time worth my time is worth about fifty dollars an hour now there's people that want to get you for 15 to 20. well guess what when you get that lead you get charged and if it's not a valid excuse you ain't getting your money back so you know some good has come out of angie's list but i think that's pure luck it's not like uh this i got i got connected with a guy that wanted a basketball court done a quart and a half actually and two basketball hoops done that was a great job okay those jobs do not land in your lap every single time so i had to spend about 750 to get that job or up until i got it you know obviously i made a lot more money than 750 but the ratio it just doesn't add up especially in these months well people are on there trying to get quotes it doesn't matter if it's a quote you get charged cha-ching the only real winner is angie's list you know i think a much better solution is if you take 2500 and put your logo on your work truck or work van this way that logo will bring in people they'll come up to you and say hey man do you do floors hey man do any plumbing well yes i do [Music] this way it's even cheaper because i'm not adding the fee the lead fee on top of my price so chances are you get the job done or you get the job
