Hi there, I'm Matt with K15t and let's look at how you can do some lightweight project management with Confluence databases. Now I know the life of a project manager can be very complex, and there's a lot to manage between information, communication, and just straight up jumping in and out of Jira. And that's where Confluence databases really shine. Every project we work on at K15t has a page in Confluence that outlines the project plan. Typically, it has all of the related work somewhere on that page. It's a great example of Confluence and Jira working well together. In most cases, we have an epic in Jira under which all of the work tasks are created. This is great because Jira is really helpful at planning and tracking the work that we do, but then there's a whole bunch of extra information about the project that we need to communicate, and that doesn't live in Jira, that lives in Confluence. With a database, we can really easily connect those two things. As things are moving throughout the project lifecycle. There are a few different ways we easily use information between Jira and Confluence For example, here you can see a page for something the team is collaborating on for this particular project. You can see that I have a Jira Issue Link field type in the database that connects to the actual task for the work in Jira. Also, I'm using a Jira Issue Details field type to actually display the description of that Jira issue. I just want to pause here for all of the project managers. Hold one up, because we are displaying the actual description of the actual source of truth in Confluence. And if you update that description in Jira, it will display here in Confluence. So everyone knows what they should actually be working on. Also really quick. If you use Confluence throughout your week, you might be interested in our Weekly Dose of Confluence email newsletter that you can get in your inbox every Friday, which breaks down confluence News best practices, and videos that you can use to increase your Confluence skills. So maybe check that out. Otherwise, let's get back to it. So you can see that Jira is still the place where you plan and manage your work. But the information flows perfectly into Confluence where you're actually doing the work. Now, if I move down on this particular page, you can see another example of how databases are really useful throughout projects. Because you might not need a huge database, you might be doing something simple like maybe making a list. Here I'm creating a swag store. That's the whole project, and I might need to make a list of all the internal systems that need to be updated to support this new store that we're creating together. In this case, we're not planning work in Jira we're just organizing some ideas in a way that we need to be able to reference quickly. Databases are great for little use cases like this as well. We're using different field types here to make this list really powerful. So there is a Number field type which we just use to add a numeric priority for each system. We're using a Tag field type here so that we can quickly note which team owns that system. And we're using User fields here so that I can quickly note which user in Confluence is the owner for that system. And of course talking about projects, we know we're running multiple at the same time. But because all of the project information lives in Confluence we can easily pull a list of all of our projects that we're working on together and put them in a weekly blog post, for example. By copying the Smart Link for the database and putting it in my weekly update blog. Everyone can see all the Jira issues clearly linked, so people can easily navigate into those Jira issues, see what the project status is, and also jump into related Confluence pages for that work. Again, we display the right information from both Confluence and Jira so that everything is up to date and accurate. Now this is just project management. With Confluence Databases. There is so much more you can do with Confluence. So jump into another video in this series as we continue to explore how to use Confluence to share what you do best.
