if you aren't making the sales that you want to be making on Etsy right now then you need to focus on increasing your conversion rate in this video I'll go over the four things you need to focus on to increase your conversion rate rank higher on Etsy faster and make more sales if you missed my last video the five things I wish I knew before starting my Etsy shop then I'll link that video down in the description below we talked about how getting ranked on Etsy actually works when I first started I thought that if you had great photos great designs and great SEO you could just magically rank to page one of etsy right when you list the item but no that's not exactly how it works every listing gets a quality score and depending on this score Etsy decides to rank you higher or lower in the search results the way you get this score is based on how customers interact with your listings the more people who click your listings favorite your listings add the item to their cart and purchase it then the higher you'll eventually rank in in the search results if a thousand people see your listing but no one even clicks on it then you're going to be pushed to the further back pages of Etsy Etsy is out to make money so what they want to do is push listings that they know customers like and convert well to the first page that way they get more sales as well so if you can increase your conversion rate on your listings then you will rank higher in the search algorithm so if you can increase your conversion rate on your listings for the amount of people who see your listing and then click it and then the amount of those people that actually buy then Etsy is going to start showing you higher and higher on that first page of the Etsy search results they give you a small boost right when you list your item to really test how customers are going to interact with your item if someone clicks it favorites it adds it to their cart or buys it then you're going to get a small boost so this can be a slow process of about six to eight weeks since they need more more data before you get your official quality score and rank higher on Etsy so don't be surprised if when you first post your listings it takes a little while to start getting those sales so it's important to know that this process takes time and you need to be patient with your listings it's also another good reason why you want to be consistently listing new items in your store whether that's daily weekly or even just monthly to make sure that you're constantly getting listings that are getting to that mature age and hopefully starting to take off and start getting those best seller badges so now that you have a better understanding of how the listing quality score in the ranking Works let's jump into the four things you need to focus on to increase the amount of people that click your listings and then increase your conversion rates first you have to have easy to read and eye-catching thumbnails second you have to have all of the questions the customer might have answered within the photos of your listing third you need to make sure you have competitive pricing and fourth you need to make sure that you have unique and eye-catching designs so let's jump in and break each one of these down with actionable steps so you know exactly what I'm talking about and how to better improve your listings first we have easy to read and eye-catching thumbnails Etsy is a search engine based platform just like Google so most people that come to this platform already have an idea of what they're looking for they type that into the search results they look through all of the tiny thumbnails in the search results they click one and then they buy it so your listing needs to catch someone's attention while they're scrolling through all of your competition and you and get them to stop and click on your listing so you can't just look at your giant mock-up fully open on your entire computer screen to decide if it's good or not you need to really consider how it looks when it's a teeny tiny thumbnail and the most important thing to consider is can you even read the design that's on the shirt if the answer is no that is the biggest red flag so take a moment and actually scroll through your own Etsy store looking at just all the small thumbnails and really be honest if that would get someone to stop scrolling in the search results and click on your listing if your design is big and bold and easy to read then people are going to be more likely to see your listing have it catch their attention and click on it once you know your thumbnails are easy to read there's a few other things that you can do to help you stand out against your competition you can take a look at the first page of the best sellers for the niche that you're designing for and see if there's any way that you can stand out can you offer a different color shirt for your mock-up that's still a really popular color that would help you stand out against the listings around you could you make that design into best friend matching shirts instead or could you add a personalization aspect to make it more custom try to give people a reason to want your listing over everybody else's around you in the search results and you will get more clicks on your listing the second thing to focus on is having all of the questions that the customer might have answered within the photos so now that we have more people clicking on your listing we need to make sure that at least four percent of those people that click your listing actually buy this is a really good conversion rate on Etsy and we'll tell Etsy that people are loving your product and will make them want to show you even more it's great to have a good description but most people especially if they're shopping on their phone which a lot of people do shop on their mobile devices these days don't ever even go down and read the description of your item they want the information and they want it quickly so you want to make sure that you're hitting people's hot and cold points right within the photos of the listing if you sell print on demand shirts like me then one really big hot point for people is they're worried about if the shirts are going to crack and peel or if it's just an iron-on design since a lot of people sell cheap vinyl shirts on Etsy that they made at home and since it is more of a handmade website people are worried that that's what you have so if you make a really nice looking photo card for your listing that explains what direct to garment printing is then this can help you get more conversions on your sales so you could have one of your mock-up photos with arrows pointing to it that say that the print won't crack or peel and that it's rated for 50 plus washes another really great photo you could add to your listings is something with social proof so social proof is them being able to see other happy customers since people see good reviews and really relate with that and have a better idea if they're going to like the item if they see good reviews so you could create a listing photo that says you have 100 plus five star reviews or whatever you have in your store or you could even just highlight one really good review you had that talked about how good the fit was for how soft the shirt was again making sure to hit on the hot points that people really like to hear about t-shirts the third thing you need to focus on to increase your conversion rate on Etsy is to make sure you have competitive pricing now this is really going to depend on the niche that you're selling in and the product type that you're selling in so I can't give you exact advice on exactly how to price your products because they vary so much but the best advice I can give you is to do really good competitor research so what this would look like is you'd want to find at least 10 stores selling the types of items or the niche that you're looking to sell in your store that have started within the last one to two years and have at least 10 to 20 000 sales if you can find recently made stores that have had really great success then these are going to be great people to analyze their listings and see how they're pricing their items so you can best learn how to price yours as well here are a few questions to consider when you're looking at your competitors listings are they doing free shipping or are they doing paid shipping if they're doing paid shipping how much are they charging and if they're doing paid shipping are they offering free shipping over 35 or more and do they have a loss leader if you're not familiar with what a lost leader is this is an item within the listing variations that is a lot less expensive than all of the other items so if you actually go to a listing and it looks like a t-shirt is ten dollars it's likely that they have a loss leader so what you'll do is click the variations of that listing and see what items are actually costing ten dollars usually you'll see maybe the size extra small shirt in white is actually the only item for ten dollars or another tactic a lot of people will use is a baby onesie will be for sale with the t-shirts and that will be for ten dollars but very rarely are people pricing every single variation of an item that low and typically these people are also charging five six seven dollars for shipping on top of that price now I never recommend if you do the loss leader method having an out of stock item or a item for sale that has this low display price we want to do this ethically because Etsy will only show the price in the search results that is the lowest price available in your listing so this is a really popular marketing tactic on Etsy so if a lot of the competition in your Niche is doing that then that's really something to consider so again you can remain competitive in your Market sure you will make little to no profit on that one lost later item but the idea is that this will gain you so many more sales in the long run that it will make it worth it but try not to make your most popular variant your lost leader so if you sell a ton of white small t-shirts don't make that your loss leader for example so do your research and see how you can match or beat your competition while still making a profit and if you're new to print and demand or you're not sure how much profit you're actually making after all of your expenses for the items plus the Etsy fees then I do have my income and expense report available down in the description it's only twenty dollars and it is a full income and expense report where you can input your expenses for the month how much your revenue is and it'll tell you how much profit you're actually making month to month and it does include a profit calculator that tells you how much profit you're making after all your Etsy fees so you can quickly and easily see if that pricing you're looking at would be profitable enough for you the fourth thing you need to focus on to increase your conversion rate is having unique and eye-catching designs that stand out in the search results there's a big difference between a good graphic design and a good T-shirt design you can make a really good t-shirt design but if it looks like something that's for sale at Walmart or Target or just like all of the other listings right around you then you're going to have a harder time making sales on Etsy you want to try and stand out in the search results by adding value to the search results you're looking at so for example if you're trying to make a design for a niche and most of the designs on that page are text only then you could try making a graphic based design instead here are some fun examples of some different design styles that you could do for almost any Niche let's say you're making a design for the photography Niche and again most of the designs are just text based only the first idea for you to make a design with is the heartbeat design this is a really popular design in tons of different niches that people are passionate about so mainly hobbies and professions or pets even are a great option for these heartbeat designs so if people don't have a heartbeat design in the niche that you're looking at this could be a really good one for you so here's a cute heartbeat design with a camera in the middle you could offer a personalizable part of the design so like this one here where you can customize the initials on the camera is a really fun example and you can find tons of Graphics just like this for tons of different niches or lastly you could offer nine Graphics related to that niche in a three by three pattern this is a huge winner in lots of different niches and this is definitely one of my go-to design Styles when I'm making listings in new niches so here is a fun group of graphics for photography that you could pick nine of the best ones and put them in that little pattern and hopefully make some extra sales because you're doing something a little different than what else is out there these are all really popular T-shirt design styles on Etsy so feel free to use these types of examples in lots of different niches that you're looking to break through the market saturation and get some extra sales in don't just tweak what a bestseller is doing and do it a little bit different because you will drown in a sea of results of people trying to do the exact same thing try to think outside the box and do a design for the same niches that best seller but do something a little bit different and again unique that's going to stand out from the crowd so start paying attention to different overall design styles that you see like the three by three pattern the heartbeat or the personalized piece of a graphic you're going to start seeing a lot of Trends as you look at bestsellers and start to make a list for yourself of the different ways that you can make a different design that way when you get to a new Niche you have a nice list to go back to of different ways that you can stand out in the search results in an already proven way that other bestsellers have had success with in different niches in all of the graphics that I used in today's example were from creative fabrica.com if you're not familiar I do have a link in the description for a free trial of 10 free downloads from creative Fabrica they have over 5 million graphics and fonts that you can use for your print on demand business and then it renews at a nine dollar per month subscription and for unlimited use of these Graphics so definitely check that website out if you haven't already I hope this video was really motivating that if you're not getting the sales that you want now that you might just be missing the mark a little bit in one of these four categories but that you can make changes and slowly get better over time so you can start making the sales that you want to be seeing on Etsy I know when you first start Etsy and print on demand and you see people online talking about how much money they're making it feels like it should be really easy and while it can be simple it does take time and hard work to really understand how to be unique and stand out and bring a new offering that's going to get you attention on Etsy but I hope this video really did help you see an actionable way of doing those things and will help you get a higher conversion rate this year on Etsy and if you enjoyed this video please take a moment to like this video comment down below say hello and subscribe because it really does help my channel grow so much I can't believe in less than a
