what the heck are funnels or sales funnels and why would I need it for my business or clinic we're gonna be talking about this with an expert Brian Zee on this episode of bootstrap MD hey guys this is dr. Mike looming with bootstrap MD got a real treat for you guys today on this episode we're gonna be talking one of my favorite subjects is marketing you know I love marketing marketing McLin --ax marketing my previous internet businesses and I came across a gentleman who was actually wearing a mastermind group of medical marketers and I wanted to get him on the show he's actually one of the top ecliptic funnel experts out there in the past I've talked about this if you're not familiar with it it's a way to have a funnel a sales funnel for your business and he's actually one of the top top experts in doing this and his name is Brian zorroski I practiced your last name riot to make sure I got that right he's an entrepreneur and marketing consultant from Cleveland Ohio so I was born in Columbus oh we have that going for us he built you guys he built his first medical business to sixteen point five million dollars and now helps medical practice owners like us all over the country doing the same and he's gonna be showing you some strategies he using for with funnel so if you never heard about funnels or why it's important you really want to pay attention to this call so so Brian or Z whatever you want to be called thanks for joining us on this episode thanks dr. Mike this it's awesome to be here yeah my friends call me Z I told you guys that in the in our mastermind group so you can that's that's what I'm most comfortable with and that you can let that rip so it's a lot easier than trying to pronounce my last name awesome awesome so before we kind of get into funnels maybe could tell us a bit about your backstory I know that there's some especially I'm interested in you share with us when we had our meeting about your medical business and then how that involved into now having a marketing agency so tell us about that yeah so it's kind of an interesting story and it's a story that I never really I didn't tell a whole lot of people for a long time and then and then as we got into a mastermind group it was you know kind of a fascinating story to a lot of people so I started I I graduated with a marketing degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland which is a great school and I went directly from there into becoming a golf professional so you know there's a difference between a golf professional and a professional golfer so the professional golfers are like what you saw this weekend with Tiger Woods winning the master knows awesome yeah that was some thrilling TV right there but so I was a golf professional I ran private Country clubs so I ran the entire golf operation and then some so giving lessons I did on the Pro Shop which was great you know that gave me my first piece of business ownership and I marketed to my members and you know so in the private club sector it was kind of a unique animal but it was my first business ownership opportunity so in 2008 you know the the economy was really kind of taking a tumble and when that happens you know private Country Club the discretionary income lifestyle things take a hit so the the club itself was really kind of starting to struggle my I just had my second child and I was trying to be at home more and the club is trying to make me you know pull my budget back a little bit cut my staff a little bit so I decided you know I think I need to figure something else out so I decided to I took a course online on buying existing businesses and this just absolutely fascinated me I knew that you know the high rate of failure for start-up businesses and I didn't want to do that I had a family out of mortgage I needed a paycheck you know that kind of thing and I took this course about buying existing businesses and I mean it just changed my life instantly like the way I looked at everything I started interviewing business owners and and didn't know what kind of business I wanted to buy and like it doesn't have to be golf and because I like business and owning a business so I went through this long process of looking at all these different kinds of businesses and sitting down with owners and and brokers and and all these different things and it was just absolutely fascinating to me that that I you know in not to discredit the owners but they the little knowledge that they had to market their own business successful they were in spite of that and I was kind of like oh my god what am i doing and you know so we ended up buying a business in health care my family I pitched in a little bit help me put the down payment down I put everything on the line took out a big loan and I said healthcare was where I wanted to be I liked the market I liked you know that the business of the specific business I was buying I liked the support I was gonna have I had zero experience in healthcare so that's why I was gonna ask you did you have any type of background in this zone you know the most experience I had in healthcare was getting hurt that was about it so yeah it was just something that I researched and I liked it and the margins were good the industry was not you know market sensitive so even in a recession it was going to be fine and I could own it not being a medical professional so it checked a lot of the boxes so I went through that we've owned it for we still own it and it's been about about ten and a half years now and so I was working in the business for a very very long time as the administrator and decided I didn't want to do that anymore it was we were up to like a hundred employees and it was just I really I was kind of pulling my hair out a little bit it just wasn't the lifestyle that I wanted and so I really focused hard on putting some systems in place that would allow me to pull back and keep keep my income the same but allow me to pull back and let the business kind of run itself I will always have to be in touch with it obviously I sign the paychecks and whatnot but now I've got it to where I work like 30 minutes a week it really runs itself so it's it's really the way I want it I've got my team in place I've got our processes in place and things are cranking along which allowed me you know about this was probably about you know three four years about three three half four years ago that this all happened and then it allowed me to really get back to marketing which is what I love that's that's more my degree is in this and when I started looking at what was going on today at the time it was like I jumped into SEO first mhm SEO was was fascinating I got a I got a real good background and in that and then it just then click funnels came along and and I got certified with click funnels to be a funnel consultant which is it's a program they don't even offer anymore but it's really the the strategy of funnels and the process the education process I went through with that was really just fascinating I loved it it was just give me one more give me the next thing give me the next thing and it was just a fascinating you know to it this time it was a pie 2016 you know really kind of today's stuff it wasn't a standard website it wasn't standard SEO it was it was new stuff it was strategy it was psychology it was all of these different things and it just fascinated me so I jumped I jumped into that started implementing some of these things from my own business started doing it for other people and it's just kind of morphed into what we have now which is you know my personal brand and then we also have growth gen media which is our agency side and we have our team that's that's doing things there as well so that's kind of how I got to where I am today and you know this is this is what I love to do it's a heck of a lot of fun and you know what I thought I would do with you today if it's okay it's just kind of run through what a funnel is because that's the by far the number one question that I get is what the heck is a funnel and there's just misconceptions out there or just lack of knowledge and I thought I'd cover a little bit of that and then maybe the top five things that I see that make a funnel work is that sound right yeah that sounds good to it also if you would have mine too if you could tell us more about clickfunnels and and how that all works in creating funnels because there are different companies out there and it's one that you'd work with but so just so just so we can our audience may not be familiar with some of these terms so yeah go right ahead sure okay so I think I'll start with what a funnel is and then I'll tie click funnels in and and how what makes them different and why I chose them so basically a funnel is kind of the new way to do a website there's still a place for a standard website in my opinion a lot of people say you know that you'll see our people go both ways are no good websites are no good I like a combination of the two so a standard website if your audience would think of a standard website kind of like a billboard if you're on the highway or just any informational site so it's have your off your hours maybe your team members maybe you're you the entire services that you offer your the background of your business there's a lot of different things there a funnel is gonna be a page with an offer and everything is on that page is going to revolve around that offer and maybe just a little bit more about the business maybe some testimonials those types of things but it's very very focused on the offer and when when you know when the internet blew up in the last you know however many years we've seen it we've seen a trend in people's time that they can focus and the latest ciphered was it's about you got about seven seconds to make an impact and get somebody's attention and when you have a website with all of these different menu items and all these different things that seven seconds goes by like that and you haven't got your point across to try and get a lead so funnels are what we're using to try and get a lead and it could be you know any industry can use these for you know giving away PDFs or ebooks or free prizes or a drawing or a video of some kind there's all kinds of things we can do to try and get that lead but that lead will eventually cultivate hopefully into a sale and a long-term customer and referrals off of that so it's a it's a very powerful thing where a website is way harder because of the amount of information on it to do that and we tie the two together so for instance if you had a website and there was a button on there that said click to get our our new ebook that tells you the top five XYZ things you can click into that and then it would take you in the phone into a funnel from your website so it's just another series of pages is what that funnel is but the one thing that people always get wrong with the funnel and that I see and it's a it's a question that I asked all our prospective clients that come to us for funnel builds is where is the traffic coming from so a funnel is no good if nobody sees it so you can you can have traffic come from you know multitude of places email list existing customers Facebook ads YouTube videos multitude of different places but so many people come to us in there not ready for that piece and we will not even take him as a client if you don't have a traffic plan or a budget to get traffic you know something like that so that's that's a that's always the start of every funnel is traffic who's whose eyeballs are gonna look at it then we can start to dissect what are they gonna see what do we want to tell them and then lead them down this path of a sequence that can also include you know upselling things or down selling things or packaging things together and click funnels in my opinion is the best at doing this easily from a from a creation standpoint so just the way you can organize the pages it's all drag-and-drop tying in email sequences on the back end you can do texting you can do all kinds of different things but it was just a much simpler platform and you didn't need to know you know website creation and all these different things you do need to know a little bit of tech but you could create simple funnels off of templates or just dragging and dropping and it's and it was very very simple and they were the best thing about click funnels is the community you know Russell Brunson owns the company and what he's done to create this movement and this this collaboration of people that share and share and share is awesome and I didn't see that with any other companies and that's really kind of what pulled me in and that's how we that's how we create all our funnels so but again websites and funnels do have their places together you know in in the biggest thing with a website in my opinion is the SEO value so your net you know which most medical professionals are going to be searched so if you're a you know if you're a stem cell or if you're a dentist or something there's there's a lot of searching going on for your practice or for your service that SEO value comes way better with a website like a WordPress website than it does with a funnel mmm okay I'll recommend the two together and that's what we like to happen so that all makes sense I hope yeah and so so we're going to be talking about these five things that you didn't know about funnels have you noticed a difference between funnels with a brick-and-mortar business between a conventional online business do you I know you work with both but if you are there things that you do on one hand that you don't do it on another well I think it's just going to be a matter of the targeting for the traffic so let's let's say it's a restaurant that's down the street from me you know they're gonna have a they're gonna have a radius or a perimeter of of traffic whether they're you know Facebook I was always a good start and they're gonna just use a radius around that restaurant they're not gonna have somebody you know and they're gonna target the rest of the country for their one restaurant so that traffic is much tighter on where we're gonna draw from than say an online business you know they're they're definitely two different animals and it depends on the industry but if it's a let's say it's a medical practice with a you know the a tight radius to draw from that is definitely different than say you know if it were the Cleveland Clinic which is in my backyard that has you know now they got locations all the world and they're drawing from all over the place so yes definitely two different animals but it depends on the niche or the business as far as how that's handled really right but it seems like that the strategies you know are pretty Universal yeah yeah it's it's you know it's lead generation is usually at the top of the pyramid you know if you're if you're a very specialized practice you could be you know uh maybe a mini webinar you know fifteen to twenty minute webinar on you know stem cells is a good example a lot of people don't know the benefits of stem cells and what that can do for pain so we know a mini webinar hitting the highlights on what this can do for you is a good thing rather than saying hey come into our office and talk to us which is a big commitment rather than just watching a video but if you get that person's name email and hopefully phone number then you can really cultivate that lead over time and hopefully eventually get them into the office and and you know it's another good place to demonstrate your expertise which is always you know one of the things that we really focus on is demonstrating that expertise whether it's with testimonials or videos and demonstration those types of things rather than just saying hey we do stem cells and come in come make your appointment you know that's that's not good enough most often it because there's a lot of competition out there yeah that's it that's a good point in and I see that even with my own clinic you know and for doing something where there's not a lot of education there may be some miss such as stem cell we don't really know a lot about it you probably want to have something like a webinar that has explaining first is something let's say you know like Botox maybe most people already know about it they know why they have it you don't really need to have a 30-minute discussion on the benefits of Botox so yeah that makes perfect sense but I'm glad that you kind of made that distinction so let's talk about funnels let's talk about you know what you've seen and and what are the five strategies we need to know about it sure so this is kind of my top five list and it's funny how we with the we we time this conversation today out because this this top five list is actually coming out in my video series starting next week okay we've already filmed these and well let the cat out of the bag a little bit so so number five in my opinion on what what makes funnels work and what what doesn't the difference between a failing funnel and a successful funnel number five would be calls to action so it's not when we say call to action it's going to be a lot more I'd say detailed then just click this button or click here you know it's it's yes I want to get started now and that's what's on the button or yes I want to change my life or yes I want to be pain-free you know getting a little bit more into the psychology of they're agreeing to what you say when you click that button and it shouldn't just say click here you know so we're trying to take that of the next step and get them to make that what we would call a micro commitment to saying yes and and really labeling those olfaction and those are good things to test you know split test they'd be test whatever you wanna call it on on getting that person to putting those words in that person's head as they click through and that's an often oftentimes a an overlooked piece so yes I want my free pdf report so I can change my life or you know whatever the case is but making it a little bit more than just click here mm-hmm yeah exactly so so that would be number five number four is ease of use so there's so many times you see this a lot with websites but even funnels when they get too bogged down and people try to do too much with them they make it not so easy to use and we want a very very basic menu that usually it's going to be a one pager and your menu is just gonna scroll to different sections of that page so if they want to see testimonial videos or they want to you know grab the offer right now if they want to do this that the other it's going to be very basic so that it's very easy to use we're not gonna take them off into other page you know tons of other pages and and bog them down with too much information and have five different pop-ups that come across the screen it's just we don't want to I you know I had let me digress here for a second I heard a great analogy at clickfunnels conference a couple months ago from the guy that runs the traffic for clickfunnels and he was saying that when you're running traffic between the traffic and the page you send people to you have to treat them like cats oh if you know cats at all they're so scared and anything the little thing that goes wrong they go run in the other way and that's the same thing with traffic and people online it's like if the ad says something weird they don't wanted anything to do with if the ad they click on the ad then they go to the page and it says something weird they got they go away to get scared so we have to treat them very sequentially very gently and make sure everything makes sense so that they don't get scared off like cats which I thought was a great analogy so that is a great analogy yeah but the ease of use making it very easy not having tons of buttons being consistent those types of things make make a funnel very easy to use make it easy for people to say yes and click on a button or fill out a basic form something like that so number three which is one of my favorites because this is the one that everybody puts at number 1 which is aesthetics you know is it pretty you know and so many people all they care about is having a site and they think as soon as somebody sees it it's so pretty that they have to sell that product they have to get somebody to watch a video they have to you know it's gonna work because look how beautiful it is and that is the third thing on my list and it's a distant third on what makes it work and we've seen this time and time again because ugly funnels that are good funnels still sell like crazy and it's it's just so funny to me and there's there is value to aesthetics and I'm not I'm not saying just create any ugly crappy funnel that you want me to work saying that we definitely put value into to aesthetics and and I think everybody should but don't make it a top priority put the research into number one and number two that I'm about to say way ahead of aesthetics and it's it is it is it's comical to me how many people are just like you know take a great-looking template or whatever put their name on it and go yeah here here's my here's my funnel what do you what's the funnel about you know why should I do it and I go oh man I mean I paid all this money for this great-looking funnel that doesn't work and they've ignored all of these other things that really are much more important than the aesthetics so the bretton right right yeah I give an example I had one where is you know a beautiful video but the video was like 30 to 35 seconds it was the video was great but it was difficult to load and you know that that you know like you said you only have seven or eight seconds and you made my most beautiful video but right three seconds for it to load they're gonna be going to the competitors yeah without a doubt so number number two on my list is the copy it is severely overlooked all the time so the copy is the words on the page what are you saying to people what are your headlines say that that first headline that people see right on that page is the most important thing sub headlines all the copy on the page whether it's testimonials whether it's bullet points whether it's you know any any of the words on the page can be so powerful and if you look at the Masters of marketing for any industry there they understand their audience they know what words trigger action and you know clickfunnels is brilliant at this if you just go to their sales page and see what they talk about and they target entrepreneurs they know the words they know the frustrations they know their history of the things that the these these people have most likely tried and failed at and how clickfunnels can be different and it's easier and you don't need to know text so they understand the copy piece you know and the the greatest example of this is on have you ever hired a copywriter oh yeah okay so I've hired plenty and the good ones are super expensive and you know that and that's why are they super expensive because they're worth it right you pay a copywriter twenty thousand dollars and they create you a sales page that you can use for years to come and it just gets people to take action over and over and over again it's totally worth the money I I'd always be I've always been leery of the copywriters that are like yeah I can do that for $100 or $500 or whatever I'd be like then you're not going to do the research that I know you need to do you're not going to do you know maybe interviews with current clients those types of things that are really necessary to get that copyright and so many people just slap the words on the page and go yeah that sounds good let's run with it and it's just it's it's one of the it is the top two things one of the top two things that make or break a funnel by far and you know split testing within clickfunnels is one of the greatest things that they do well you know so split testing a headline you got consistent traffic coming in let's say let's say that let's say our headline one way that's way and let's run some traffic to another way and let's see what let's have them compete and see which one wins and then fun with that and then you change another piece and then you know you can test some things back and forth that way which is which is great but that copy piece and it's and it is funny because it's like it's 2019 you would think you know not as many people are reading the words of the page in my opinion I would be like that you know there's so much with video now and that is powerful but even the copy within the video on what is being said is important but cut the word on the page man it still sells its I don't think is ever gonna go anywhere mm-hmm that's the big one so the number one thing that we see either makes or breaks a funnel is the offer and the offer is absolutely number one this is something that with our clients we make sure that we try to dive in and take as much time as we can and get the business owner to think about different things that they can include because most the time you need another set of eyes you know you're so close to your business you know you have to kind of understand what does my potential customer or client or patient need what are they gonna want next is it more of the same is it something that's an add-on is it the next step is it a t-shirt is it you know whatever it is and start to package things together to make a really compelling offer and you know clickfunnels are just absolute masters at this to make and this is what can get you to command a higher price so when you're just saying hey I'm a dentist and I want to offer you know a nine dollar cleaning or free cleaning or a thirty dollar cleaning or whatever that's great but you're also competing with a lot of people saying the same thing if you say I'm gonna give you a you know $39 cleaning or $49 cleaning and now I'm throwing in x-rays and then I'm gonna take care of one of your kids on top of that and do it and you package it together people go oh my gosh that that's $49 offer that $50 offer is worth 300 bucks that's awesome where they don't you know we're just a basic simple offer that everybody else is doing doesn't resonate as well and this way we can command the higher dollars which is which is key because the last thing we're going to do is race to the bottom right for flight right you know we're all competing on price if everybody's given stem-cell therapy for the same price eventually they're gonna start undercutting each other and it's just getting a cheaper and cheaper and cheaper unless you can provide value and have a compelling offer that people other people don't have yeah that would be we don't want to be Walmart we want to be the little oak coast leader absolutely not yeah that's that's a tough game to play and it's like you know it's all I see all the time on Facebook yeah on your facebook ads for free I'm like walking why are you even wasting your time and that like I don't understand how those agencies probably are gonna be all around very long but that's all they have is to say yep Facebook Ads or you know whatever service we offer and we're gonna do it for free yeah you know you're gonna it's it's very hard to stay sustainable because they haven't thought of an offer and and put different things together that their potential customers going to need so those are those are my top five offer copy aesthetics ease of use and calls to action this will be great and just kind of want to ask you kind of some follow-up questions on this based upon your experience and working with doctors in clinics let's say you're a you're a new clinic you're starting up you know you need to get patients in have you seen a like a certain type of offer that works you go straight for just like you know like a coupon or should it be education I mean I know but there it can kind of run the gamut but have you noticed any specific type of offers that seem to work better for a new clinic you know that really that can depend on the area you know so in geographically and depend on what what audience you're at you know it might be different in Chicago than it would be say in Des Moines Iowa or you know something like that so it depends on the audience the best way is just to test things so if you're running advertising you want to test different offers and that's the again the beauty of clickfunnels is you can run you can put these different tests all together and and lickety-split in no time but just the ad you know whether it's a you know a free free appointment or a you know a no buy by three by three sessions of something get one free you know something like that so it offers can definitely change depending on the industry depending on the geographic location in your audience so it really just has to be tested there's never a blanket thing that we would this works for every clinic in every part of the country is just as soon as you say that something's gonna fail so it's just a matter of testing and making sure that you try different things so it you know it's it's not a pointed answer I guess but you know and even if it works today and you run it for a couple of months you know it may it may fizzle out you know things things wear out over time it's not gonna just because it works today doesn't mean it's gonna work twelve months from now so yeah that's an important point especially if you're doing things like Facebook Ads and you get that they add blindness over well one thing I noticed on your website I was I was looking through some of your videos is and I see that with my own doctor's I work with is we get concerned about the competition you know and you made a good point about that sometimes we could be overly worried about our competition you want to talk about that yeah you know and it's it's something that really I didn't fully understand till the last you know months and years it's like that there's so much out there now and the the personal branding piece of what we do and what we would put a doc through in our program is so important because there is so much out there now like if you if you're on Facebook and also you've shown an interest in you know a dental appointment you're gonna get pounded with dental ads and what is gonna make them stand out you know if it's one offer for a free cleaning or whatever after another you know it's just not gonna resonate as much but if there's some consistency with developing your personal brand and got some really cool techniques that we use to to make that doctor stand out in the community and really become the expert in their niche that makes such an impact and makes the selling process so much easier and I've talked about it in some of my videos and things it's like you know if you're a patient and you're sitting in that waiting room and this doctor walks through the door and you've got scenario one where you've seen maybe you've seen multiple advertising or content or videos or a billboard or whatever or you've even seen stuff in his waiting room that looks super professional and like makes them look like a superstar and that doctor walks through the door that selling process is so much easier like if they see that doctor as a celebrity they're like oh my gosh I I've got time with dr. my grooming this is this is crazy ugly they're just gonna be waiting for the feedback and waiting for you to make your offer on how you're going to fix them take scenario B where it's like hey I found dr. dr. Smith in the phone book or or online or I just did a google search and this doctor walks through that into the waiting room and they have no idea who this is other than the girl at the front desk at dr. Smith and he walk through them they're just like okay what do you you know the the feel the vibe that the relationship is so much different and it goes to this this concept of know like and trust if you can establish some level of them knowing the doctor liking the doctor and trusting the doctor because he's put out valuable information ahead of time and makes a huge difference absolutely huge system and that's not just doctors that's you that's me that's that's any industry and really putting putting people out there and and and establishing that expertise and I hit on it hard in one of my videos that the best way to do that is to take take this cell phone and start putting yourself on camera as people are definitely afraid of it yeah and in 2019 if you want if you really want to take that next step in your business you've got to get comfortable and I'll share a quick tip that i that i got from i think i heard this from russell brunson but if you're looking to do facebook lives or any kind of video and you're afraid or you're nervous the best thing that you can do is take like 10 videos just hit record say your piece hit stop watch it and then delete it do it again second time watch it a little bit different you know maybe look up look down move the phone smile a little more do whatever watch it again for your own feedback and then delete it and do that like 10 times 15 times 20 times whatever it takes and you get super comfortable with turning that phone on you know and I the first time I did a video where I was walking around it in a outdoor shopping center that's near me kind of an outdoor mall kind of thing and I had my selfie stick you know this thing on and I'm in a video and it felt kind of weird to me because I I could see everybody walking by going what's what's this guy doing what's this guy doing but you know it was over okay turned out to be a really good video and that was done it's like people have to get over this fear of videos or they go you know oh my kids do that and oh look at me look at me look at me it's not about look at me it's a lot more business right exactly trying to make a living that's why my cameras in front of my face and I think people if they can start to understand that they will definitely take that next step in their and their practice in their business and and see a heck of a lot more success yeah and it doesn't have to be perfect you know you know this could be raining this thing could be shining they don't care they want to care about the content and the enemies exactly just focus but you just bring that authenticity you know what do you have that video really just makes it closer to that know like and trust surprise this has been awesome again thank you for sharing that information we're gonna go to find out more about what you do and perhaps working with you or can they go get more information for me yeah sure so what I'd like to do for your audience that's listening to this so I'd like to give everybody a free funnel and they this is a funnel that we we sell all day long through click funnels and we've got a choice of a couple of different ones so if they just go to my main website at Brian zorroski it's B ry a n Z you are aw s ki comm and there's there's a messenger button on there you just send me a message say I want my funnel you know whatever and and I'll let you pick from from a couple of different ones but we've sell these all day long I'll give you free to your audience and hopefully that'll help help people get get get started with the funnel world well thank you for that generous gift again this has been a pleasure thank you Brian Z thank you for sharing your wisdom with us today hopefully it makes most of a little bit more comfortable about funnels and utilizing in our business so we can get more patients and increase our profits so thanks again Brian and we'll talk to you soon thank you dr.
