they were saying they were saying where's Jason where's Jason so they want to see you so you want to go over and see them and then if you're if you're too shy are you listening if you're too shy you can come back okay Mom will go first could you get ja and we be first in we'll be first who else is going here I close my eyes minut oh the lights are on all on but it takes a we minute to heat up been in several other schools before he arrived in welshot and had a bit of a chaotic time with his education his behavior in some of the schools was pretty wild to say the least they found him difficult to manage he wasn't able to socialize with the rest of his classmates he wasn't able to go out to the playground and even in the classroom he had to be excluded so he has not been used to interacting with other children so we thought the nurture class would be an environment for him where it's only a small number of children and he gets a chance to interact in a more positive way having ADHD and was being given rlin to address this and from what we could see in school it wasn't have any great effect on her behavior she was under tables over tables shouting at people shouting at teachers refusing to do what she was told not getting on my classmates being aggressive after the holiday we started off with a new teacher who had a very strong personality very outgoing and they seemed to go on really really well we didn't have any major problems and then unfortunately the teacher was very very ill and had to stay off for a long period of time she went away something was R tried to go hospital something and then miss mother teach us this is that one or 12 and that was when it really kicked off as we put it that's a technical term she just um didn't cope with that at all CU it was a new teacher was behaved right good what do you mean sh there were a few days when she was so out a control that we had to ask her mom to come and get her and take her home then we de decided maybe we should step in so we brought her down here into the N room and I think the good thing about this room for Jordan is she knows the rules she knows they're firm she knows we're not going to shout and get angry but we are going to deal with it and she's going to have to face the consequences of our actions and take some responsibility yes or no okay up you go then good boy wait ready to come okay and when you're ready to come we'll find something to do okay but I know that when she first meets people she's very suspicious she's not good at trusting strangers it takes a long difficult to take direction or follow any instructions he really has no interest in learning he doesn't seem to have much structure in in his behavior this our listening time then we going to come back and do our language work our phonics then if we get time we have a we story at the end and then it's lunch time and then your mom will be for you okay I want to do something quick make it make it make it dead and my myio cuz is this hard to hear it speak I don't like to hear stories about that sometimes when they're playing the the play is not what we would call nice play and you have to just stand back and let them act out how they're feel feeling make sure you step in when it's safe interact positively with them but not judge them or not say don't do that when they're burrowing dead bodies in the sand or they're putting the stuffed toys in the oven just to stand back and let them get all that out because he's to say what they've seen or heard before they've even come to school that morning hey we just found a dead bu better find the police they said he was a 9 boy for what reason I don't I mean my son Jason he's been through a lot in his life right all right I'm part all because I was an alol at one time but I did my time my rehab and I I fought to get my children back myself not of my family or nobody and that rehab was a good thing for me get my bo back you know what I mean for being a one family I think I do know bad they get the meals they get everything I've got any money they'll get whatever I get I get them you know what I mean they're always in school and say and whatever so it's just for me it needs a bit help because my life mean I get myed out I just want to get a house and that's it try and get a new fresh start with the boys and just get my never get involved in anything that was probably easier for Jamie are you not going to join him with the bunny song than having to deal with these two adults who hold you accountable for what you've done and yeah you can throw a temper tantrum but we're still here and we're still being patient and we're still being firm and we're still being consistent and this is what's going to happen he finds were quite intimidated by her so the boys but mostly the girls and we had we kind of looked at Jordan and thought what what is the big a big problem in here for her and we thought she doesn't have any friends not the way that children have would have got their best pal or be group they hang about with and we thought that the reason for that was probably because she was completely unpredictable and the children were afraid of how she was going to react if they happened to bump into her or if they said the wrong [Music] thing jeez oh man I had a good time I J the book could make dinner don't they still hungry you take walk walk go walk get everything away dad doesn't go there that goes in you just gotat you take up take up get to work so we thought how are we going to do this we thought we'll get the girls down into this room where it's nice and relaxed and where she would feel safe but so would they and so that hopefully the girls in the class will begin to see a kind of incling of the Jordan that we know this nice girl who's very kind and has a really good heart and likes people but for some reason doesn't like to show that side of herself now I'm going to embarrass Jordan now I think because when you're in this room you get stickers and it's not for work because in this room work's important but more importantly we learn about how to treat other people how to be kind how to say sorry how to admit if you're in the wrong how to apologize if you are in the wrong and apologize properly how to show that you're a good listener by looking at the person who's speaking and every time you do one of these things things and lots of other different things then you get a sticker so they're not for good work which actually makes them harder to get and Jordan has filled her chart and I don't know if Jordan's going to pick something in front of you all or if she just knows what's in the box now but I would really like it if she did because I think it's good for you all to know that the Jordan we have in here works really hard at our manners being kind like I told told you last week she is fantastic with the younger children she's very patient she's very helpful and she's earned those 20 stickers she didn't get them for nothing and I think it'd be really nice for Jordan if all the people in her class and some of her friends are here and so are getting a prize because I think she deserves it would you like to see her pick something yes do you think you could yes she embarassed no it's not often you see that that is it how many of you get embarrassed when people point you out and make you do something hands up if you get embarrassed mhm so Jordan's just the same as the rest of you she gets embarrassed by the same things right so she's not so different from you at all now you going to pick something a a let me see is it the dog one so it's a little J give her a clap she did well done and I'm really proud of her because even though she's embarrassed she picked something and a few weeks ago she wouldn't have behaved like this she's been in a bad temper shouting and being really angry so I'm really proud of her that she's managed to do that in front of all of [Music] you [Music] now we come to the hard one Jamie coming up the stairs wait till I think he walked beside me but he took my hand I didn't have to take his he took mine wasn't because he was doing think we have to work as a team and realize we're a partnership and the teachers and parents are there in the best interest of the child we have to work together I think that's really really important so did you get a look at it uh right and what did you think when you saw it I thought Jordan was wasn't too bad some of the ons that mean she had she's had before well she manages the whole day in class which is something before that was unheard of she's beginning to be accepted by the children that she's in school with all the time which is a huge St for her okay and we see that Jordan's happier and academically she's beginning now to make a lot of progress because I'm sure you know she's a really clever girl we've always said this part of the problem with Jordan is convincing her but I think she's actually beginning to realize now that she is a really clever girl and if she works hard she's going to do well okay have you found the same kind of Es as we have that she's getting on with people better friends she goes to the desk schools and clubs that she never used to do cuz she used to get put out of these didn't she I have Club she went she get put oh she had me in some State at one time I feel I don't know if the start for has been separated I don't know if that's when it thing she was a daddy's kid MH so she was MH saying that's a kind of kind of thing cuz she was was four mhm when it all happened cuz you had a lot of trouble with neighbors didn't you for a while definitely the house and I was getting as was really difficult people were just walk by she it and calling them names and but you said there that you find that's stopped now that's definitely stopped think to same be last really other people trust them now so it's made a big difference to you then definitely I'm so glad we have made I think we have to make parents realize that what they children bring to school however little they think they may have taught them whether it's in terms of behavior or academically is really really important because that's their starting point and the more input they have and the more parents make help their children to realize how important their [Music] today was a big big deal because you were going swimming for the first time and yep I thought you'll do well but I got a report that you were absolutely fabulous at swimming well we've got a certificate for you to say that you are excellent swimming today I'm really proud of you give me five well done well done well done Jason we go to treasure box we go along to treasure box your mom's be bad in school and fight and um always argu always going in bad moods for new reasons and all that but no um um good and I'm more helpful and kind and means that people like me more no think I'm just I'm going to hit them all the time I used to take my tablets before I went to school so it CS me down but I don't take them anymore I think it's actually really really fun and I'm getting smarter and smarter by by the minute we back I wouldn't have be like us it's just a medical well it's parents night tonight and I hope that I get a good report because I think um I'm trying my best and
