so you're looking on how to start a construction company and without finding your first client you really don't have a business because sales is the lifeblood of every business [Music] hey I'm Mike Claudia owner when I consulting and I've been exactly where you are when I left corporate America into the construction industry I had never sold a project before and I didn't really know where to start so I went with what I thought was the lowest hanging fruit friends and family are the best place to start so why are you targeting these people and I think there's a few main reasons first is there gonna be a lot more understanding of that you're new and that you might trip up a little bit early on in the process so they're gonna have a lot more grace for you they're gonna give you a little bit more leash and then give somebody else who they don't trust and I say this a lot in a lot of my contact you be known liked and trusted to closed deals and in this case you want to start people who already trust you and the best way to do that is to just start talking about what you're doing now outbound calls to people who are already in your contact list just saying hey this is what I'm doing now do you know anybody that would benefit from that is a great way to find your first client it's simple but if you don't do this consistently from the beginning there's gonna be some confusion on what Mike's up to now because maybe you just changed careers maybe then realize you change careers maybe they didn't realize you went out on your own and started this construction business that you're trying to get going so calling people you know already who you believe trust you starting with that low-hanging fruit by just letting them know hey I'm doing this now for myself do you or anybody you know would benefit from this product or service whatever it is that you do so in my case might kind of give you an example hey it's Mike I'm not sure if you know but I left Daniel Enterprise is I'm now wintering consulting doing coaching and consulting for contractors full time are you looking for help in this sales or business honor do you know anybody who's looking for help with sales and business development so that's my little hey I left vice-presidency of this business and now I'm doing consulting full-time well the first thing I did was call every single person I knew who I had a relationship with and just told them what I'm doing now and you'd be amazed at how well that pays off they're also going to be some of your biggest fans going forward and if you help your aunt do something or your best friend from college or your uncle or your dad's best friend that he works with and you do a good job for them which I'm hoping that you are good at what you do they're gonna talk about you they're gonna promote you they're gonna be great or references for you if you need like hey you go sell somebody you don't know they're gonna ask for references well you want to give them people that know and like you already so that they can be good referral partners for you or references when you need them so when you're starting with this low-hanging fruit group of people who already trust you who are in your ecosystem or that you are friends or family with it allows you to be more comfortable starting this new process so that you can get ramped up on people who are not going to bash you on social media if you do something wrong because they're gonna have that faith in you but also the understanding that you're new and give you that runway necessary to kind of get your wheels turning get into a system and process and kind of figure yourself out as you go because you need to crawl before you walk a little bit and these people that group of friends and family will give you the opportunity to do that and not negatively impact your brand don't be afraid to ask call reluctance is going to kill everybody's business at some point if they don't overcome it being reluctant to call people who already trust you is going to hurt you on the front end but if you've overcome that hurdle you'll find more success in that initial low-hanging fruit than anywhere else and that you can go once you start your business so when you're doing this remember when fast and went off and subscribe to the channel engage with me comment below would love to hear from you and be able to engage back thanks for watching check out the next one [Music]
