i'm raj devapiran senior vice president for project execution within engineering and construction i've been with energy transfer family of companies for 18 years now i grew up in india i come from a military family my father was in the military my brothers are in the military i always thought military is going to be my career path building came natural to me and that's how i decided i need to be an engineer when i first started out came out of college i knew i liked construction i liked projects but didn't specifically know that i'm going to be in in oil and gas now oil and gas uh happened to find me versus me finding oil and gas and it's an exciting industry to be in and i've followed it since typical day every day depends on the day some days i'm out in the field like today looking at project sites some days i'm in office working up resources looking at problems engineering challenges but never a dull day every day is a different day my favorite part of the job is problem solving i mean every day we come in there's a new challenge there's a new problem and it is the satisfaction of solving a problem with the team not by yourself but with the team and end of the day you feel accomplished something that you solve the problem you solve the challenge there are roadblocks or adversities every day what helps me overcome them is i keep my vision on the big picture what is the big picture we are trying to solve without adversaries there is no wind so adversaries are there roadblocks are there just keeping your vision on the big picture the advice i would have given myself when i was young and starting out would have been follow your passion the reason why you became an engineer never forget that keep following that passion and number two i would say follow number one uh titles and everything will follow don't worry about those as long as you follow your passion for why you become an engineer
