[Music] hi my name is Sue F I'm an occupational psychologist and an expert in change management what I want to talk about today is a couple of tips when it comes to managing change well the first one is all about piloting the process now say that you want to introduce a new computer process to your organization and you've got 50 or maybe even 100 employees involved the tendency is to want to plan this and then implement it right across the board all at the same time and the reason for doing that is probably the logic of thinking everybody will be struggling with it all at the same time in fact to be fair the greatest thing you can do is take one department and pilot it with them just to get them to see how it works if they take it on board it's much stronger as a peer-to-peer cell if one person who's then pretty good at presenting even in a really lowkey way stands up and tells everybody else prior to their departments having to take it on board what went well what didn't go so well and how they might well be able to implement it right from the beginning without the pitfalls that they went through peer-to-peer cell like that is so much more powerful than anything you and I could possibly project at them and with that in mind they are much more likely to take it on board because it's real and it's human and it's honest the second tip I want to emphasize is the principle of communication every single one of us knows the value of communicating frequently but it's never more important than during a time of change the general rule of thumb is this the more significant the issue the more frequently you write to people and the more personal the better so if you're going to do it by email make that a personal letter that comes from the MD or anyone of significance an HR person is just fine but as long as they identified as the principal pivotal person who's implementing the change if it comes from you and it comes frequently once a week if it's a really significant involvement once a month is just fine but the more you actually put in there keep it factual keep it simple probably on one page the better that would be and even if you've got people within the organization who don't normally use email because they yard staff and so on then nominate somebody who's responsible for them to run it off on a simple A4 piece and put it up on a corkboard so they can see it at lunchtime and read it the value of them being informed and involved and ask their opinion about things is terribly important so I can't emphasize enough those are two quick tips but they will be really valuable for [Music] you [Music]
