it definitely is slow season in fact i'm making another video on it because i dug through my emails and i found a nugget in there that could really explain why my sales in particular and yours if you're canadian have been really slowing down lately but before i do that i need a coffee [Music] oh boy this is going to be uh quite a topic ebay sales again they are down it's been very consistent ever since a specific date and then i did some digging through my ebay messages to see maybe if there was something that was going to lead me to the answer that was why are my sales so low here in canada well i found something and well here it is ebay canada collecting canadian sales tax as of july 1st 2022 and there it is the nugget of information that i needed to basically confirm what i feared the most my sales have went down dramatically as of july 1st and i think that has something to do with it because i actually have more watchers on items than i've ever had before and i've been listing like crazy mostly in the collectible variety the message goes on to say dear ebay canada seller pursuant to the guidelines announced in canada's 2021 federal budget and recent provincial sales tax amendments ebay canada limited will be required to collect canadian sales taxes gst hst qst pst on applicable sales to canada-based buyers now i know what you're going to say immediately well what about american-based buyers don't you sell a lot to the states and yeah i'd say about half my sales are to the states but remember we're still in a recession right now and the last few sales that i had before july 1st were actually canadian buyers and again if a canadian buyer is going to have to pay an extra 15 on the item that they like they may actually consider alternatives or just say no i'm not gonna buy it effective july 1st 2022 for all sales of tangible goods sold within canada ebay will be collecting the canadian sales taxes from canada-based buyers on behalf of canada-based sellers irrespective of registration status and remitting the tax to the appropriate tax authorities so essentially what it's saying is even if you don't put sales tax on your goods on ebay they're going to do it for you anyways for sellers not registered to collect tax with the cra and other provinces there is no action necessary you will begin to see sales taxes charging collected by ebay on buyer purchases beginning in july ebay collected taxes will also be displayed in your seller reporting as of that date so that is definitely going to put a damper on anyone who's looking to buy products from me on ebay if they live in canada for gst hst and qst registered sellers ebay will be appointed as a billing agent for collection and remittance of canadian sales taxes where the sales tax laws do not automatically require it as such ebay will require completion of billing agent authorization forms we are sending separate communications for gst hst and qst registered sellers with the billing agent election forms with this change in sales tax collection responsibilities ebay aims to alleviate our sellers of the administrative burden to accurately charge and collect sales taxes on taxable sales made through the platform and comply with all applicable legislation ebay is taking over this responsibility for all sellers not just those that are not registered in an effort to simplify the experience for our community any questions or concerns about tax collection will be handled by ebay customer service you can also visit our tax information page here ebay will be also responsible for a collection of the canadian sales taxes on supplies to canada-based buyers of digitally downloaded goods including sales from non-canadian sellers ebay's user agreement has been updated to implement these changes and provide for compliance with applicable laws so if i was going to summarize essentially what is happening to canadian sellers is that if you are a small seller on this platform you are going to be treated like a massive online seller or like a brick and mortar store if you are a massive store that actually has a physical location and you also happen to sell on ebay you would be applying a sales tax on your ebay goods but that only really required to massive stores now resellers who sell used goods are going to be asked to do the exact same thing which is crazy to me because most resellers have used items as the majority of their goods like for instance when i buy something at value village that was donated to that store once it was actually new and someone bought it at a store in canada so taxes were paid on that and then if i buy it from value village taxes again are paid on that and now if i sell that on ebay taxes again are going to be paid on that how many times is one item going to be taxed it's quite insane especially the fact that most ebay resellers have small stores sell used items anyways i just wanted to make this video as an update as to why we are having a slow season on ebay it's not just holiday season if you're a canadian reseller it's probably because of these new changes let me know if this has been affecting your store down below in the comment section and i will be sure to read that and remember guys mayor carts always be full so you
