my name is dennis bannon i'm the president of hockey fights hunger and jeremy's game we're a small non-profit located in richmond virginia six years ago i lost my son jeremy who was killed crossing the street and was hit by a car he was the executive chef at ruth chris restaurants his goal in life was to make sure no one ever went hungry the inspiration for hockey fights hunger started three months after jeremy was killed a friend of mine came to me and said we want to have a hockey game to raise money for the food bank in honor of your son we put together an event real quick at that time it came to me that we need to do this and keep jeremy's dream alive so we formed hockey fights hunger and jeremy's game as a non-profit our main event every year is a hockey game played here in richmond in which friends of mine from my former pro career come to town from all over the world we've had players come from the czech republic russia latvia to play hockey before a packed house with corporate sponsorships we're able to raise funds to feed the homeless plus we do food drives in the last two years we've collected probably 15 000 pounds of food which we turn over to the food bank we have education programs for nutrition guidance and breakfast for students well what we were doing was emancing a large amount of data individuals and corporate sponsors as well as potential players and we just got too much data and no way to handle it so we started a search to look for some sort of application that would enable us to do a better job of organizing our data and communicate better with our patrons players and the community in general and we researched various products for almost a year before deciding on zoho what we've been able to do with zoho was take all of that data put it in a usable format we were able to get our message out better communicate better with our sponsors communicate better with the players who are worldwide coordinate their travel coordinated donations for auction items uniform suppliers everything into one product it allowed us to have more time to do what we wanted to do and that was to raise more money i've been playing professional hockey this will be my third season coming up it's been i love my whole life coach dennis was the goalie coach for our junior team richmond general so that's where i met him he kind of just hit it off and uh connected real well and now playing the charity game every year it was a good friend of mine jeremy's game is going to grow it's for a good cause and it's good quality of hockey too the game's all about raising money for fighting hunger and i think people want to be a part of it biggest problem we had was collecting our data because it was in spreadsheets it was on sticky notes it was on little pieces of paper in my wallet we went through a couple of competitors products looked at zoho had several members of our board of directors sit down with me and we went through different functions we decided on the product close to six months ago now it just gave me more time so i could meet with more sponsors individuals companies to get the message out it also increased our donations because we were just in better shape to communicate with potential sponsors it also enabled us to have a bigger social media presence in may when we were attending the zoho conference out in your corporate headquarters in pleasanton we were relatively new to the product we were using zoho crm plus at the time it was an exciting opportunity for me to learn more about the product we learned something new about your product every minute out there i mean within an hour of the announcement i signed up for zoho one because i saw the benefit immediately i took away so much i needed another suitcase to carry it all home i would not only recommend it to non-profits i would recommend it to a lot of businesses in a lot of businesses there's a need for organizational data but people don't know because they're not from technical backgrounds and the one thing i say about zoho one yeah it's a technical marvel if you will but it's not technically hard to use it's pretty simple the hard part is figuring out what you want to do with it so would i recommend zoho products to anybody without reservation
