welcome back I'm Brian Hayes in this video I'm going to show you how to convert a lead into a person account now you've probably already tried this where you have a lead record and you put it in the converted status and click converted and then when the converted modal pops up it just says record type is business account and you can't change it doesn't give you the option to turn this into a person account so let me show you how to fix that go ahead and close this modal the thing that's keeping it a business account is the company field right here Jackson controls so if there's a value in the company field then Salesforce is going to convert this lead into a business account if there is no company value here then it will convert into a person account the problem is that company is a required field and it's required by default but now that we have person account set up we can actually make it no longer required so to do that click the gear in the upper right hand corner and click on edit object that'll take us to the object manager for the lead object where you can then click on page layouts and select the layout that you're working with in this case I'm just using the standard lead layout here where it says company go and click the gear and you can uncheck the required checkbox or if you want to make it required again you can check it again hit okay hit save and then come back to the lead and hit refresh now we can go into this company field and we can clear that out so that it's blank now let's try and convert it when you convert a lead that has no value in the company field it's going to assume it's a person account and here you can see record type is set to person account but it doesn't give you the option to change it to a business account so that's the trick just make sure that company field is either not required or it's gone from the layout entirely and then when you go to convert it it'll convert into a person account instead of a business account I hope this video saved you some time if you want to learn more about Salesforce and pardot take a look at our courses at academy.rotive.io thanks for watching
