foreign Shelby here and today I want to go over the minority business Enterprise certification that is MBE certification okay so if you've been wondering whether whether or not your business should or should not have the certification I'm going to answer all of your you know thoughts or questions right and give you the reassurance that you definitely need so make sure you share this video like And subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven't already okay and you know let's just jump right into it okay so the minority business Enterprise is pretty much what it is all right if you are a minority business owner if you are a person of color just like me all right um then you can actually apply for this certification the purpose of the certification is to identify your business as a minority business Enterprise it helps you increase your approval odds with grants with investment opportunities with government contracts and more okay so once you have this certification you will see that you would actually have more funding opportunities than you think just by you know not having this uh certification right so let's jump right into how you can apply for this opportunity where to apply and all of the credentials you actually need in order to prepare yourself for this certification the national minority supplier Development Council okay that's nmsdc I've heard of them before I believe I talked to them about them all my my YouTube channel once before but this is a like a agency kind of like the SBA that you can go through to apply for this opportunity well instead of going through the SBA this particular company is easier to go through and honestly you guys there's like no easy way to do this but at least getting going through this particular company will be a bit quicker so the nmsdc central is a new online certification the recertification application that is now integrated with the national minority supplier Development Council it's a new minority supplier management information database which means we can actually complete all of this information online all right so to begin the certification process you will need to contact the regional affiliate closest to your headquarters all right so there is a link down below so that way you guys can find your Regional headquarters so you can get in contact with the uh with an individual and get started on getting certified as a minority business Enterprise so the certification process this is something you all definitely need to know how does this process work right reviews or certification criteria so that when you ensure that your business qualifies right so you obviously have to be a minority okay so you have to be black African-American right um Latino Asian American all right you can be Arabian you can be from any other country right outside of America you are an indigenous person of color from a foreign entity a foreign country you are considered a minority business owner Okay so they have a list of like all of the nationalities right and ethnicities but just pretty much to generalize it your person of color you look like me you can apply for this okay for sure um so you want to gather the required documentation um all of the documentation obviously we're going to go over you want to complete the online application in its entirety you'll have as long as you need to complete the application and you can save each section as you go and I'm not going to allow you guys it's a pretty extensive application but definitely worth it the application fee must be paid via online with either credit or debit card um you have to upload the required documentation via the online certification application and then hit submit upon the completion the application will go through a desk audit to ensure the accuracy of the application all of the documentation is uploaded and completed and the references are contacted okay so it's going to first go to all right a desk audit so pretty much like an agent they're going to check all of the credentials that you put on the application and also reach out to those references that you need um that you're going to put on the or the application okay and then after that process a site visit will be performed by a nmsdc that's the national minority supplier Development Council certification specialist okay so they will either visit your website if you are an e-commerce business or they will come to your physical location okay um if you are like a brick and mortar okay so for all my tax businesses and things like that obviously in order for you to be technically a tax preparer you have to have a physical brick and mortar so they will come there um the certification compliance committee that's the CCC we'll review the application the supporting documents and site visit information okay they will make a recommendation to the board of an agent all right an agent that's going to read over your application and check check your references then it goes to a certification specialist that's actually going to physically come to your brick and mortar or actually go on your website right and then from that point it goes to the CCC which is the certification compliance committee um they're going to actually review all of the documents all right they're going to review all of the other two steps that was taken after that they'll make a recommendation to the actual board of directors okay the board of directors will at will be the individuals who will make the final approval for your minority business Enterprise certification all right so it might sound like it's a lot that I just said but I promise you that really is not a lot if you think about about it all you need to do check and make sure that you are eligible for this and we've already went over that make sure you have the credentials which we're about to go over make sure you submit the application online all right and then once you submit the application online it goes through three processes process One agent regular agent just checks on everything right process two actual certifier comes to your location and or visits your eCommerce website and make sure everything looks good all right looks legit are you a legitimate business that's all they want to know and then step three uh the CCC they will actually review all the information sorry all the information and then they would send it to the board of directors okay um once the it gets to the board of directors and they've looked at all of these steps that is taken prior to getting to them that's when they will provide you with the approval let's go to the eligibility requirements okay and just want to let you guys know before before we get to eligibility requirements um that is this entire process the certification process that we just went over that is on it up to a 90-day process okay up to 90 days so be prepared all right be patient but get through it because it's so worth it all right the eligibility requirement one you have to be a U.S citizen all right got to be a U.S citizen you have to be a minority business uh must be at least 51 minority owned okay and can manage and control so if you are not a minority owner but you do have a partner right that is a minority you know working with you make sure you have a partnership agreement that states that they own 51 they manage 51 and they control 51 of the business so that way you guys can be you know be be eligible for this opportunity a minority group member is an individual who is at least 25 Asian Indian a Asian Pacific Black Or Hispanic for Native Americans a tribal card and blood degree certification or certificate sorry are required minority eligibility is established via a combination of document reviews screenings interviews and site visits ownership in the case publicity's own business means that at least 51 of the stock is owned by one or more minority group members all that stuff is just to say you got to be one of the following okay like I stated before black indigenous just anybody persons of color Asian American anybody from outside the United States but as a U.S citizenship must be a for-profit Enterprise okay or um oh yeah must be a for-profit Enterprise and physically located in the U.S or is Trusty trust territories okay so even if you're not physically in the United States you have to at least be of one of the states right you can be in Puerto Rico okay you can be in I believe one of the islands I think St Thomas but outside of that your business needs to be physically located here in the United States okay management and daily operations must be exercised by the minority ownership uh members okay um so pretty much owned operated managed okay um so let's go over what you need to have all right so we're going to go over the full list but on my medium article I actually highlighted um and put it in bold the main documentations you need to have because if you go over this list it's definitely and if you look at the website it will definitely drive you either just to boredom or just to I don't know what's going on all right I'm going to read everything on this list but I'm going to pretty much tell you the main things you need to have if you are an LLC all right this is what we're going to go over if you are an S corp C Corp okay or a LLP all right LLP is just pretty much same thing as LLC but you have Partners um then you will have to look at another list all right and that list is more extensive if you are this is why I like LLCs all right they're more simple straight to the point obviously you will need um the assume name certificate all right that's filed with your secretary of state information you need your search certificate of organization and articles of operation or articles of organization okay all of that information is literally on your Secretary of State website if you've got your LLC like all three of those are together um if you amended your LLC right so if you change the name if you change updated the location if you removed some of our members you need to make sure you have that LLC Amendment certification as well okay add that in there you need your operating agreement okay most people should definitely have an operating agreement if you don't we'll talk about what that is easily okay but an operating agreement is something that you definitely need um proof of capital Investments so a proof of capital invest avoided check right a bank statement equipment receipts or any initial deposits okay that you've made into your business bank account they want to see that so that is a capital investment okay um they have here minutes of organization meetings minutes of last meetings where managers or members were identified and elected both sides of all certificates of ownerships copy of both sides of next consecutive membership unit copy of ownership transfer Leisure a copy of membership y'all really need it okay if you are a single member LLC you don't need none of that proof of unit purchase unit purchase is your location they want to see either both sides of canceled checks your voida check deposit slips or bank statements that show that you this is proof of your actual unit purchase right so for all of my brick and mortar people um you can show a bank deposit or like your bank statement showing that you're leasing your brick and mortar right um for all of my people who are using virtual offices then you can provide them with your Virtual Office term agreement and then also you can provide them with your bank statements that show that obviously you're paying these people every month okay reoccurring payment copy of the purchase or a buy sell agreement with corresponding proof of payment so if you actually bought your LLC or if you actually sorry not bought your LLC but if you bought the business then they need proof of debt okay so I know some of us actually invested in businesses or we just bought businesses that were failing from the pandemic they want to see that agreement in copy of any membership unit options or other ownership options outstanding as well as agreements which restrict ownership or control of minority owners a membership agreement okay partnership agreement membership agreement same thing all right so the main things that you need out of here because I know that's a lot that we went over is your LLC articles of operation if you change your business name if you amended any information on your LLC recently they need the amendment form they need the proof of capital so they definitely need a voided check and then they need proof of unit purchase so if you're a virtual office provide them with a bank statement that shows that you paid you know let's say Alliance Virtual Office Regis or if you have a physical location just show your deposits or you paying your leasing or what you should know about the entire application process now let's go over this the certification process can take up to 90 days like I stated before before you begin the online application you'll need to register on the side of Regional Council where you are applying which is why you need to speak directly to the region Council the national minority supplier Development Council nmsdc y'all you gotta reach out to them and so that way they go ahead and they're able to help you or assist you in um registering on the site okay for your particular state or your region um when completing the application feel free to take as long as you need okay so that way you can provide all of the documentation necessary for this opportunity your information will be saved for your next session and is completely confidential the process of your application will begin once the payment is received okay so even if you're uploading all that good stuff remember you can't even submit the application without making a payment with a debit or credit card application and documents are reviewed for completeness a site visit is conducted the certification compliance committee CCC meets regularly to review applications for the MBE certification okay so that means they're meeting pretty much Monday through Friday the certification compliance committee must approve the application before it can be submitted to the board for the final approval the board will review the the certification compliance committee's recommendation and make the final decision if your application is approved you will be notified by the regional affiliate if the board rejects your application you may submit a letter of appeal okay getting in contact and getting in good buddy buddy with the regional affiliate is definitely what you want to do because they most likely hold the power in the key to what's going on okay and also getting good with the regional Affiliates also they will also help you with walking along the entire process so you definitely want to get their number and email and just get to emailing them through the entire thing so you make sure you're on top of your due diligence and then also you can submit a letter of appeal if you were denied okay if you were denied from my experience you can be denied just by not providing one piece of information that's missing something that's actually very needed like avoided check right and even if you provide a void check you want want to make sure that voided check has your business's name on there if it does not have your business's name you are denied all right I know this from experience y'all all right so the idea of having to go back to the bank pay an extra couple of bucks make sure the business name is on there things like that it cannot be your it can be your name but it needs to have the business name on there too okay my Superior advice for having this particular um you know in minority business Enterprise certification and it reads as follows having a certification increases your approval odds with minority business grants Okay this may be a lengthy process However the fact that you are executing the due diligence and getting this Federal certification or certificate is an eye-opener for grantors and investors as minority business owners we have a lot of opportunities available so many commercialized grand Tours like Amazon Walmart so far aura or a Macy's FedEx all right they love to give out grants specifically to our community in understanding our hardship gaining working capital I advise that you start a sam.gov account um make sure you do that as well because remember this entire process can take you up to 90 days having the sam.gov account will allow you to post your Awards like this MBE certification when applying for government contracts and government grants grantors and other businesses can review your profile and select you as an awardee based on just having this challenging certification keep in mind this can take up to 90 days to get this certification therefore in the midst of waiting for corresponders from the MBE Council go ahead and register with sam.gov and get your business UEI number if you want to learn more about this certification visit your regional office using the links provided so you can gain help in completing this certification due to this being a lengthy process you guys and also because it handles your business account information unfortunately my team won't be able to help you out you know so sorry about that I really wish I could but um nevertheless right this is definitely a certification that you just to kind of like help you guys out on a rebuttal that you might have heard or you might hear from someone on social media the idea of having these certifications especially a minority business Enterprise certification I saw something on YouTube or not YouTube but on Instagram one day y'all know I don't even like Instagram Instagram is just negative nasty but I saw one of my peers say you shouldn't get the MBE certification because it identifies your business as a black business and uh that will not help you with increasing your gaining your approval as actually what it does is it keeps a census on how many black businesses are being brought up which allows them to want to control the finances and and all this kind of stuff and blah blah blah right my rebuttal to that is having the minority business Enterprise does not technically state that you only black owned business you can be a minority just by being Asian American Native American Latino and other nationalities that is within this country and you have a citizenship having this minority business Enterprise certification is a lengthy process and because you are actually doing it and taking the time out to do this this is why it helps increases your approval eyes with other opportunities minority business enterprises not just for black individuals okay it's for all persons of color and all ethnicities that are not really a business or from here right you know I I just totally disagree with that I can say that my clients that we have done grant writing services for that have this certification they actually get approved a lot more versus the clients who don't have it I mean aside from having the business plan that increases your approval odds having a pitch deck and a pitch video but having these certifications will definitely raise the bar I mean imagine all of the other small black businesses or the other small minority business owners who don't have the time to do this right but you did you took your time out to do the due diligence and now all of these other grand Tours investors and other businesses who want to gain government contracts with you are actually wanting to give you money and wanting to do business with you because they see that you are handling your business you executed everything that you needed for the certification and other businesses know how long this takes okay it's a real true eye-open class having this certification you will actually find that getting other business bank accounts and business funding via credit cards within different credit unions and things like that will actually help increase the limits okay the the starter limit don't listen to the negativity of that okay because that's not what's going on all right just because you have an MBE does not technically label you as a just a small black business now if they had like small black business Enterprise all right and they just wanted to have a census on how many black businesses are coming up I'm pretty sure they would make that but this is not that type of situation okay keep your head on straight stay focused on making the money all right because increase your approval ones this is one of the ways to go okay um obviously you guys I'm always talking about Grant so obviously I will bring more grants to you but I felt that this was a conversation that we definitely need to break down talk about and I wanted to motivate you guys to definitely get this minority business Enterprise even if your business is owned by a trust all right and we'll talk about trust later even if your business is owned by a trust you can still actually apply for this MBE certification okay getting government contracts getting investment opportunities high limit loan funding especially through the SBA with the certification I mean this really sets the bar and then obviously grants okay um if you guys want some more information on obviously how to
