hello everyone my name is aarti and you're watching hw news before starting today's video i have a question for you how much do you earn per month do you consider yourself among the richest indians or middle class or the poor i consider myself among india's middle class many of you too i'm sure but are we really how do we decide that then here is another question for you is your salary above 25 000 rupees or below 25 000 rupees per month 25 000 is what probably a fresher earns in a white collar profession and this is still a very conservative estimate now some of you would say considering the inflation your travel your food bills your education loan emi if at all fees other expenses investment after all of this how much will you really be able to save if your salary is 25 000 right now why am i asking about this particular number particular amount is because this number is a parameter parameter of whether you are among the top 10 percent of the indians or the rest 90 percent shocked i was too ing to a recent report if you are earning 25 000 rupees per month that is 3 lakh rupees every year you are the top 10 percent of india's wage earners so those earning 25 000 rupees or more per month do you feel rich yet this reminds me of the 2011 report when the planning commission had said if you want 32 rupees per day you are not poor and the 2014 report when the gujarat government under cm modi had said if you are earning 11 rupees a day you are not poor this had led to a massive approach back then the latest findings are no different they only highlight the huge income inequality in the country which has only increased post pandemic what this report says and why we should take this seriously let us understand in this video today but before that i'm at the relentless coverage of mandir masjid issues hindu muslim issues we stand here to speak the truth we speak of the issues that matter to you but doing this comes with the cost we were barely recovering from the strike on hw news english youtube channel and the hindi arm of hw news has received a strike on its youtube channel now we can't upload even a single video on the channel and that has seriously hampered the channel's viewership and growth while we do not know what exactly led to this action we will continue to speak up for the truth what we need at this moment however is support support from hw community we have decided to shift our videos on our platform that is our website and not to be dependent on any other platform so you can watch our videos directly on our website i will share the details of it soon but in the meantime watch our videos share it with the people and comment below it to help increase our reach now coming back to the topic recently the india arm of a global competitiveness initiative the institute for competitiveness prepared a report on the state of inequality in india the report was released by bake debroy chairman of the economic advisory council to the prime minister the report shows a bleak picture with gaps that need to be addressed so that the goals of social progress and shared prosperity are realized the report even goes on to warn if an amount like this comes in the top 10 percentile that is 25 000 rupees then the bottom most condition cannot even be imagined this is what the report wants now the growing disparity between the money earned by the top 10 percent and the rest 90 percent is a teletale of india's income profile let us delve deeper into this with the help of the graphics top one percent in india earns thrice as much as bottom 10 percent citing the annual report of the periodic labor force survey that is plfs 2019-20 the report said that annual cumulative wages came to be around 1869 lakh crore rupees out of this total top one percent of the wage earners got nearly 127 lakh crore rupees while the bottom 10 percent accounted for 324 lakh rule rupees in fy 20. now the report noted that this difference in income distribution resulted in top one percent earning more than thrice as much as the bottom 10 percent interestingly the report highlights from fy 2018 to fi 2020 the share of top one percent in total income has only increased from six point one four percent in fy 18 to six point eight four percent in fy 19 in fy 20 however there was a drop the top one percent registered a marginal fall with their share in total salaried incomes holding 6.82 percent meanwhile the growth rate of the bottom 50 percent has been at 3.9 percent consistently from 2017-18 to 2019-20 ing to the report income data from the periodic labor force survey 2019-20 showed that a monthly salary of 25 000 rupees is already amongst the top 10 percent of total incomes earned pointing towards some levels of income disparity similar findings now were also published last year in the world inequality database the report had even more grim picture about india's income profile it said that while top 1 percent makes 22 of the total income next 10 percent makes 57 of the income whereas bottom 50 percent make only 13 of the total income earned in india so for example there are 1000 people and you are distributing the income of say 100 rupees among them then 10 people make 22 rupees 100 people make 57 rupees whereas the bottom 500 collectively make 13 rupees among them now let's try and make sense of it the top 10 percent which holds that 57 percent of the total income is the one which also earns 25 000 rupees or more that means the bar to be in the top 10 percent of income earners in india is so low that earning 25 000 rupees a month can take you to that category whereas 90 percent make less than 25 000 rupees a month now imagine where that keeps the bottom 10 percent and you wouldn't be surprised that we have not come very far from the 2011 and 2014 parameter for poor in india another question that emerges is who is india's middle class then is the person earning 25 000 rupees per month be counted as india's middle class as the data puts him in the top 10 percent but ask any person earning 25 000 rupees per month he would like to consider himself as middle class moreover if the 50 of india's population is earning just 13 of the total income shouldn't that be construed as the 50 percent of india today is poor while we are busy in mandir masjid hindu muslim 50 of indians are barely able to afford two square meal think about it and do let us know what your thoughts are in the comment box below for more news and updates you can log on to .hwnews.com [Music]
