hi i'm marie russell i'm with the u.s commercial service here in the charlotte north carolina office and i'm a senior international trade specialist here and i'm delighted to talk about export sales representatives my topic is on locating selecting and what to know before signing on the dotted line you know most uh u.s business executives whether you know it's uh john smith or lee chen or pedro gonzalez or homer simpson or maybe dilbert they these business executives here in the united states and in north carolina realize that the world has become a global marketplace and as our north carolina business executives sit at their desks they realize very quickly just from looking around them and what they're wearing and some of the office supplies that they are using the furniture that they're sitting on is made not in the united states i like to point out the fact that you know if you just look on on what you're wearing look at all the various uh locations where those products came from um at least often our beautiful wooden desks are genuine usa made products uh but you look at some of the other things that you have on look at your shoes they might have been made in in brazil uh usually uh you know i go out and buy a tie or a shirt for my husband and i noticed that stuff is you know often sourced out of hong kong or china um even uh dilbert here he has his uh his cell phone in one hand and uh you know that is from finland and on the in his other hand he's got his his iphone and that's made in china uh his computer and a lot of the parts in the computer might now be coming from both china even though it might come from say a japanese company as well we do have a very global view of uh everything that's around us today and even you know uh some of our americans they even have european kind of attitudes a little bit more superior european attitudes sometimes so maybe sometimes even our attitude is global well most u.s business executives and our uh business executives that we work with here in north carolina they really think well hmm i buy a lot of stuff that's sourced overseas i'm wondering how i can get them to buy my stuff and then the next thought in their minds is hmm maybe i can find myself a representative to sell my products or my services made right here in north carolina and i want to let you know that we at the u.s commercial service do an awful lot of individualized counseling to the company executives here we specialize in analyzing markets and in order to do that we tap into our our worldwide network and we do have um offices around the world we've got uh u.s commercial service offices that are u.s embassies and consulates in about 98 countries worldwide and if you are the north carolina business person and you're looking to find out whether or not a particular country is an appropriate market for you we'd love to help you analyze that situation of course right here in north carolina if you can imagine we sell most of our stuff to canada you
