people are willing to invest in hiring people but they're not willing to invest in growing people we did a survey on sales training a couple years ago and what it said was that people are willing to invest roughly 1,200 $100 a rep in in personal development or skill development for their reps you'll spend $20,000 to hire them but then you'll only spend $1,200 to invest in them that's crazy so what we are suggesting is that you look at that individual development plan that you have worked with on your uh with your new rep and that you really allow them to execute it if they want to uh you know join associations like the American Association of inside sales professionals fund that for them if they want to take seminars or webinars fund that for them buy books for your team to read and let me make two recommendations on great books for inside sales teams the first is snap selling by Jill conrath excellent book practically a how-to manual on how to sell to crazy busy buyers the second is go for no by Andria Waltz 74 pages that completely changes the way you look at your job because yes is the destination but no is how you get there so NOS become a positive so I highly recommend those two books for your team but it really is an investment you as a manager you have to invest your time your energy and yes I hate to tell you some money and making sure your people Remain the a players that you hired them to be one final thing you can do to invest in your people is give them books that your buyers are reading it's not that hard to do you go to Amazon you go to best sellers non-fiction put in some keywords that you know your buyers care about buy some books distribute them to your team and have quarterly book club meetings you know get them in line with your buyers and one of the great ways to do that is giving them something to have a conversation about and a great book that your buyer is reading is a great way to do that
