so I started interning at United Rentals my junior year of college I had no idea what I was getting into I knew nothing about construction equipment and I loved it and I've been here ever since through the internship program they give you a scavenger hunt you learn different stages of construction you get to spend time with the mechanics dispatch seeing how every function of United Rentals Works coming into this I initially applied as an osr the manager who hired me actually says you know we really like you but we want you to become an ISR for a little bit of period of time to get your feet wet in the company get to know the process the equipment the people and then we'll move on from there when we see that you're you know succeeding in the long run that really actually springboarded my career into where I am now because it gave me a greater appreciation for this whole process there's a lot of people that have been around a long time because people stick around here so it's not hard to ask questions and have people give you the info you need so as also sales representative there's a lot of face-to-face interaction and driving Revenue in the field such as job sites customers offices and just retaining those potential customers as well as bringing in new customers to United rentals there's a lot of different sides to the business that you don't really expect until you get into it I am mostly in the industrial market so a lot of it is in industrial plants and Facilities talking to planners buyers purchasing managers me specifically I sell flooring equipment so I'm targeting distribution cleaning companies places that have floors that need cleaned I handle a book of 30 accounts primarily large trench accounts I can find myself anywhere in Vermont New Hampshire Maine Massachusetts Connecticut Rhode Island so you create your schedule every day for yourself I'm depending on which part of your territory that that you would like to be in that day we have three kids so my schedule works out really well for that I've got bosses that are understanding when I have to take kids to doctors appointments and school field trips everybody cares about each other everybody wants everyone else to succeed you know as much money and time that we put into our equipment and our people we also put into the behind the scene stuff knowing our equipment teach our people to show the customers to provide those solutions to save them money on job sites so we can make things happen that a lot of people can I mean we've got so many facilities and branches to choose from to pull equipment from so if we don't have something we can usually pull it in just a relationship building right so yes my primary focus is trench items but I'm also finding myself being that relationship builder for the company on our side as well as theirs and you know a trusted contact if they need that generator they know they can still call me and I'm going to take care of them so if you're willing to put in the work and do your job on a daily basis without being a position to be micromanaged then you will be a successful outside sales rep probably the most exciting thing about working here is that they're always talking to you about be thinking about what you want to do next and growth is such a big thing in my first interview with United Rentals I was like this is a company I want to retire with and I still feel the same way and I don't see myself ever going anywhere
