This is our livestock pipeline practice. This watering system is really to help support the intensive rotational grazing management plan, to really utilize all of the forage that's available during the grazing season. Our operation is an organic dairy farm. We milk 1100 organic cows. A little over three thousand acres all together in our operation. We have beautiful green grass and happy California cows doesn't get any better than this This ranch is one of our heifer ranches we keep heifers and dry cows here. We didn't have water on top of the hill, the cows had to walk off the hill every day to drink and then once they drank they didn't want to walk back up the hill. NRCS were able to give us funding to drill a well and then as we came down the hill, we put in seven water troughs. The water source is behind me on top of the hill and it's equipped with a solar-powered pump that pumps the water from that well into two storage tanks. the storage tanks then gravity feed down to each of these troughs through livestock pipeline that's in the ground. There's the immediate benefit that you have a reliable water source for the cattle but there's a whole process that's this structure is a part of that there's a whole story behind how this functions to have a larger impact. I think if you can enhance the soil, enhance the water system, it's gonna make you a better farmer. It's been a win-win situation, cows really enjoy being able to be in a field on top of the hill and they can eat the grass and have water to drink.
