What is a PIM in oil and gas?
Pipeline Integrity Management (PIM) is the structured methodology whereby ensuring that people, systems, processes and resources which deliver the integrity, are in place, in use and fit for purpose over the whole lifecycle of the pipeline.
-
What is the PIMS pipeline?
Pipeline integrity management system (PIMS), also known as pipeline integrity management software, refers to the software platform used to manage pipeline integrity. The objective of a PIMS is to optimize operations, prolong lifecycles, and prevent incidents.
-
What is the pipeline integrity management process?
PIM programs are systems managed by pipeline owner-operators that consider all stages of the pipeline life cycle, from conception, to engineering and design, construction, operation, inspection, and finally to repair/replacement when necessary.
-
What is pipeline integrity management?
Pipeline Integrity Management (PIM) is the cradle-to-grave approach of understanding and operating pipelines in a safe, reliable manner.
-
Why is pipeline integrity important?
By ensuring the safe and reliable operation of pipelines, pipeline integrity management helps to prevent accidents and reduce the risk of harm to people, property, and the environment. Pipeline integrity management can also improve the efficiency and reliability of pipeline operations.
-
What are the issues with pipeline integrity?
Flaws in the pipeline can occur by improper processing of the metal or welding defects during its initial construction. The handling of the pipe during transportation may cause dents or buckling which compromise the pipeline.

Data pipelines --- what are they? It's a heavily loaded term today. And I'm going to talk about actually where they started. So about 40 years ago, the pipeline started really with CPU processing at a hardware level where instructions 'read, write' were pipeline together, actually on the silicon. And these instructions could be fully automated from an end to end perspective. You could add to them, you could take away from them simply as well as flexibly. Today, they've morphed into any building block, any processing block that is moving data from end to end. And what's critical to know about today's data pipelines is how data enters the pipeline. Critical factors include real time data, the ability to take this pipeline, automate it and orchestrate it. So automation and orchestration become critical. Just a very quick word on that. Automation is the ability to run any one of those blocks at the time and the speed in which you need to run it. Orchestration is actually taking all of these blocks and running them in coordination. And then finally, while it's great that I've built that pipeline, but don't forget the importance of the end result of that pipeline and what we call the 'last mile' of the pipeline and how that actually affects the consumption of the output of that pipeline. So in, short we've gone from CPU instructions automated in a pipeline through real time data flowing through that pipeline into the end user consuming that data producing event for their business.
