What are the negatives of pipelines?
For natural gas pipelines, the greatest risk is associated with fires or explosions caused by ignition of the natural gas, This can cause significant property damage and injuries or death. Additionally, the release of natural gas, primarily methane which is a very potent greenhouse gas, contributes to climate change.
-
What is a PIM in oil and gas?
Pipeline Integrity Management (PIM) is the structured methodology whereby ensuring that people, systems, processes and resources which deliver the integrity, are in place, in use and fit for purpose over the whole lifecycle of the pipeline.
-
What is pipeline integrity management?
Pipeline Integrity Management (PIM) is the cradle-to-grave approach of understanding and operating pipelines in a safe, reliable manner.
-
What are the issues with pipeline integrity?
Flaws in the pipeline can occur by improper processing of the metal or welding defects during its initial construction. The handling of the pipe during transportation may cause dents or buckling which compromise the pipeline.
-
What is the PIMS pipeline?
Pipeline integrity management system (PIMS), also known as pipeline integrity management software, refers to the software platform used to manage pipeline integrity. The objective of a PIMS is to optimize operations, prolong lifecycles, and prevent incidents.
-
What problems are associated with pipelines?
Environmental damage Pipelines can pollute air, water, soil and climate when they leak. Pipelines that cross rivers and streams are more vulnerable to breaks when heavy rain and floods occur.
-
What is the integrity of the pipelines?
Pipeline integrity (PI) is the degree to which pipelines and related components are free from defect or damage.
-
What are the threats to pipeline integrity?
Flaws in the pipeline can occur by improper processing of the metal or welding defects during its initial construction. The handling of the pipe during transportation may cause dents or buckling which compromise the pipeline.

[Music] doing business the right way every day is paramount at Kinder Morgan we recognize that operating the largest natural gas network in North America is a huge responsibility in order to protect the public our employees and the environment we invest millions of dollars each year on integrity management and maintenance programs to operate our assets safety my name is Brian Parker and I'm the field integrity process manager for Kendra Morgan natural gas pipelines today we're at Kinder Morgan's Brazos River Ally launch site and Fort Bend County Texas to discuss pipeline integrity the natural gas pipeline integrity group's mission is to have zero pipeline integrity failures through compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and the application of sound integrity management principles and technologies [Music] one of our primary integrity assessment methods is inline inspection or ili also known as smart pace these sophisticated and sensitive eyeli tools travel through the pipe to record and measure pipeline anomalies Ally tools are inserted into the pipeline using a special configuration of pipes and valves where the tool can be loaded into a launcher the launcher can be closed and sealed and the flow of the pipeline product can be directed to lock the tool into the mainline a similar setup is located downstream where the tool is directed out of the mainline into a receiver the tool is removed and the recorded data is retrieved for analysis and reporting [Music] there are a wide variety of iolite tool types available in the industry designed to detect different types of anomalies the tool behind me is an axial magnetic flux leakage MFL tool designed to detect metal loss this MFL tool will apply a magnetic field to the pipe with these magnets and brushes and use sensors to detect and quantify metal loss via fluctuations in this magnetic field this is only one of four iolite surveys to be performed on this segment the four different technologies will each address different threats to the line segment upon completion of the inspections will receive a detailed report with all detected anomalies and their exact location on the pipe segment we will then apply our natural gas operating and maintenance procedures to remediate any anomaly that is deemed actionable thanks for taking the time to learn about pipeline integrity and our safety initiatives at Kinder Morgan i'm brian Parker and this is a look inside kingdom wood
