we're talking about the new labor government I don't know if you noticed but last Thursday there was a general election and the labor now have a fairly sizable majority to say the loose basically they do what the hell they like uh and they are in lies the worry I fear now uh we were just discussing I'm with Benedict Spence of course political commentator we were just discussing uh Benedict Nigel farage said warned he said I mean he was no fan of the Rwanda scheme but he just saying basically we now have no deterrence uh we have a prime minister who's locked in negotiations with Europe who's already suggested that we have some kind of swapy scheme where for some reason we give them some migrants and they give us more back that doesn't seem to be exactly what people have in mind uh but uh because of all this Nigel verz said he warn of what he called a starer the summer star of small boats and a mder of boats coming over so far lab have been particularly lucky with the weather but on the off chance it improves uh I think to use that controversial phrase we can get used to uh the Grim Prospect of an invasion of migrants I think so I mean admittedly as you say they've got lucky with the he the weather the heavens have opened you know God is Weeping at the prospect of you know five years of labor but you know that's going to stop after a while even he runs out of tears but you know star m is actually quite good I like that as expression I almost hope that many more of them do come across it needs to be fulfilled um with starmageddon exactly it's rather unfort for a man who's just one a stoning great majorities rather unfortunately named but you know he will not care about that for a second um this is obviously the sort of thing that farash is going to make hay out of actually this is you know this is his bread and butter he wants this to be happening politically um because the more that it does happen the more that it's very obvious and visual and people can see it happening and the more that labor don't get a grip on it and try to sort of pivot around the issue talking about crime talking about you know uh human rights the more it's going to irritate people because people are not stupid they do recognize that look if you bring in tens of thousands hundreds of thousands of people you don't build the infrastructure to keep Pace you don't put in any effort to actually have them become British for them to sort of assimilate that's going to cause problems down the line it's no surprise that we find ourselves in the situation that we do and a lot of it does lead down to immigration both legal and illegal and you the fact that the Tories weren't able to get a grip on this for five or six years and was a long time that they failed I think you know given that labor have come in and said well what we're going to do is we're going to give you competence quiet quite dull but competent sort of managerialism if they don't get a grip on things really quickly people will after a while turn around and go well hang on we thought you were the grown-ups back in charge what's going on here exactly and uh I mean there's no doubt in my mind that Tony Blair and probably by extension Peter mandelson are pulling all the strings here uh interesting that uh K starma will play a little bit of Kia talking in just a minute but that he'd already laid out his plans to solve the M migrant crisis as we've been discussing you know we're going to the board of security command and you know we're going to talk to Europe and we're really going to get to we're going to sort this we're going to process the Asylum Seekers quickly in other words his plan was basically well you know we're sort of going to do the same as the Tories only a lot better well uh what I thought was interesting was that Tony uh Blair the weekend in the Sunday Times but said to K this is just yesterday you better come up with some kind of plan uh for the migrant crisis uh to which uh K starma might have said in private well I already did clearly uh Blair can see that this is no kind of a plan let's just remind ourselves of the key moment as I said earlier uh when Kia swung the axe on the ill- fated Rwanda scheme the Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started it's never been um a deterrent um look at the numbers that have come over in the first um six and a bit months of this year their record numbers uh that is the problem that we are inheriting it has never acted as a deterrent almost the opposite um because everybody has worked out particularly the gangs that run this that the chance of ever going to Rwanda was so slim less than 1% um that it was never a deterrent the chance es were of not going and not being processed and staying here therefore and paid for accommodation for a very very long time it's had the complete opposite effect um and I'm not prepared to continue with um gimmicks that don't act as a deterrent he forgot to say expensive gimmicks there must have something wrong with his machine expensive gimmick expensive gimmick but uh it's a very disingenuous what he's saying though the ruer scheme obviously was no kind of a deterrent well it wasn't in so far as it never started so to talk about its ineffectiveness no I was no particular fan of the scheme uh but it's better than nothing and there were signs particularly in Ireland that some migrants were running scared of the prospect of going to Kari so he he's saying oh it just didn't work we never got the chance to work uh and now he's got nothing yeah I think most people had criticisms of it be it you know the scale just didn't make any sense far too small but nonetheless it never actually got implemented I think that was partly what was so frustrating for a lot of certainly conservatives was that they felt that the government knew that they were never going to get round to implementing it and that that was actually sort of the biggest criticism it was something that they never planned on getting off the ground in the first place I think Tony Blair is I mean he's no fool he's right to say actually K stama does need to get a grip on this because you can't really hide from it you know sunak said he'd stop it didn't and there was hell to pay um if if if stama doesn't make the problem it doesn't solve the problem doesn't make it to go away people will punish him for that as well um Tony Blair it must have said his Institute also does an awful lot of work on things like integration social integration and extremism and again he pulls no punches on this that it does cause real issues he's not a fantasist um but I don't see how you get round It ultimately without building detention centers to keep people when they come over and deporting them straight back to their countries and as far as I'm aware I've not heard Kama say that he's going to do either of those things most countries in the world that have problems with migration build it ion centers and they send them back to the countries of origin it's not a controversial issue only here and perhaps to a degree in the United States does it seem to be a problem there has not yet been a tried and tested solution to this that is considered to be better and uh the Third Country deportation system uh is being embraced by more and more European countries including the EU yeah uh so at the point uh Kia's just dismissing as an expansive gimmick uh other countries are saying well maybe this is The Only Way Forward uh and uh you know as we said earlier Benedict obviously the weather is absolutely Dreadful what kind of a weekend was that just unbelievable wasn't it uh so the labor party could have had better meteorological conditions uh in terms of the Optics of the uh migrants Invasion but when the sun comes out and the Sea gets calm uh it's going to start looking pretty bad for old K isn't it it will do it will do and I mean especially also with the political upheaval that's going on in France there's you know there's going to be political gridlock there for a bit as they try to sort of form a coalition now I'm no expert on French politics I'm not going to tell you what's going to happen um other than that they will take August off uh which just also tends to be when most people try to get across the channel there's a slight coincidence there isn't there that the exact time of the year that the jeary decides we've had enough of hitting people with trunions we're going to go to the south of France that the north of France is suddenly unpoled and people start coming across the channel I suspect around that time you will see a lot more people coming and the issue will be focused again and as we said at the start farage is going to make a lot of lot of traction out of this of course he will they'll be screaming from the rooftops it'll get more and more embarrassing uh for labor and uh clearly as I said uh Tony Blair wrote a big piece for the Sunday Times And while pia starmer has been telling us for the last six I've got the plan I I know how to solve the migrant crisis obviously Tony Blair has taken one look at it and said mate K mate this is not a plan you better get one and you better get one fast uh so interesting times
