One thing people can get smarter faster about is the potential impact that technology can have on the social sector. When used well, technology can help organizations work smarter, reach higher, and provide greater services. But too many nonprofits juggle with limited resources, and technology is often seen as a source of frustration, or just simply out of reach. That's when technologists like me come in. I work at JPMorgan Chase, where technology employees have the opportunity to help develop technology solutions for organizations that need it the most. Everything happens through the Force for Good - an 8 month program where teams of JPMorgan Chase technologists, like myself, help social good organizations by building them sustainable software solutions. Recently, my team and I were proud to develop a mobile application that helped an agricultural organization better communicate best practices to farmers in their native languages. In the most recent cycle, over 900 JPMorgan Chase technologists participated; that translates to 90 technology projects for different nonprofits. It matters because I can see the impact that these projects have in our local communities. Participating in this program has also afforded me the opportunity to learn and develop new skills. I find it incredibly rewarding to leverage my technology skills to do good.
