My name is Kayla Benton. I'm from Houston, Texas, and I'm majoring in animal science with a concentration in science technologies. So, my major is animal science and with animal science, we do a broad amount of things, it depends on what your career is and what you're looking at trying to do. Um, you can go from being a nutritionist, or you can go into pharmacy, or you can become a vet; it just depends on what you like. So, I chose my major because from a young age I loved animals. My grandma, she use to raise Shih Tzu's - little puppies - so I just fell in love with them and I wanted to go into medicine as well because science is my passion. What I love about my major is not only the interaction with the animals, but you also get to have a relationship with their owners, so that's why I also wanna be able to have animal science so I can go to vet school. So, College of Ag is very welcoming. As soon as I got here, they actually sent a survey, and I answered the questions. I was struggling a little bit getting here, but as soon as I turned in the survey, one of the advisors actually invited me to come, and we had a talk. You know, she helped me financially, she helped me with learning about scholarships and different things. So, I just love that the College of Ag is really caring for the students. So, my favorite class is definitely gonna be the large animal science labs, when we got to go over to the cow unit. We got to the equine unit, and even sheep and swine. So, we got to have a lot of hands-on experience, got to interact with the animals, learn more. I even got to draw blood for the first time on a horse, so it was really fun. So, my plans for the future, after I graduate, I really wanna get into vet school. So I actually have a job here at LSU with the vet school, and they helped me with that. They help me have a student job here where you can get hands-on experience.
