all right so i know before an assessment day you're probably feeling nervous and i was in the same position not so long ago and i always felt super nervous as well but let me tell you this though the nerves that you're feeling everyone else is feeling the same way as well it's not just you and the reason you're feeling nervous is because you really really want whatever it is you're applying to if it's a vac scheme or training contract or whatever role you're um applying to it's just because you really want it and the truth is i think that a bit of nerves is actually a good thing because it can help you stay focused on whatever you've got to deal with today but being too nervous and being out of control can get in the way of your performance so what you need to do today is try and keep control of your nerves so you can show your full potential but how are you going to do that so it's easy for me to sit here and say keep control of your nerves but in reality how can you make that happen now the reason you're probably feeling nervous is because you think that maybe you're not as good as everyone else who's on that assessment center with you at least that was my problem whenever i was on these things i thought everyone else was much better than me or would be a lot better than me but if you think about it nobody at the firm had any reason to choose you to be here today and they did they liked what you wrote on your application form they liked how you did in the stages before today and they chose you to be here they're not doing you a favor by inviting you in today in fact it's completely the opposite thing they think that you might be the future of this firm not only are you not an imposter the firm is looking for people who can take it forward can take the firm to the next level and they genuinely think that you are one of the people who might be able to do that it's also easy to build today up in your head like it's your one or your only chance to get this job but believe me if you've got to this stage this is not going to be your only chance trust me you're not good enough to have tricked your way through all those other rounds and tricked the recruitment staff into letting you hear because they've been around long enough and they can see through that sort of thing so you've got here because you're good enough to be here building today up in your head is gonna get in the way of your performance and stop you showing your potential more importantly by thinking that today is your only chance to get to an assessment center stage you're just ignoring the fact that you got here yourself and it's not by any luck or fluke or favor that you've got here so if you've got here before and you've got it today you can you can do it again if you have to whatever happens today i can tell you that this is not going to be your only chance for sure and whatever the outcome is whether it's a good outcome or bad outcome after today you're going to leave being just as good as you were when you applied in the first place so you know you can get to the stage again in fact you're not going to be just as good you're going to be a little bit better for having gone through this experience so believe me you're here because you're good enough the law firm thinks so too they're not here to waste their own time go out there and show them that you are
