broke every rule she broke every rule she didn't even use look and all these leads names emails phone numbers of local businesses in today's video I want to show you the making of this list how we generated over 200 leads for $50 this is a list of local businesses in the US skate shops and boutiques apparel stores that I generated on upwork we're gonna go super in-depth I'll show you the job posting that I put up on up work the proposals that we received how I picked the freelancers that we did hire the communication with those freelancers and then how the quality of work ended up so let's do it here's the exact post that I put up on upwork lead generation list building for local business put this up eight days ago and here is the actual post hey looking for someone to build a list of leads matching the following criteria independent skate shops clothing stores coffee shops and any other local business that sells apparel in the United States need name of business link the website name of owner email and phone number the reason I'm asking for these leads by the way is cuz I run a store called well hello or we sell apparel and the original plan was when we were selling only these type of designs these fashion designs we might still do that but our business model has kind of changed to update you on whoa hello we're selling merch for specific niches now so I don't think we're gonna use these elites but if we do this is still a very valuable strategy anyway back to the process paying twenty five cents per Lee generated to be added to this form and I created this Google form where the freelancers would put in the business name the city the state the website the name of owner the email address the phone number and then importantly tag themselves at the bottom this was pretty easy to set up and Google Forms they just add the form fields and all the leads they're automatically added to a Google Doc which you can download it as an Excel if you wanted the reason I did this is to make sure that all of the leads they generated had all of the data points otherwise I've done this in the past and you get incomplete data which I'll actually show you we had something similar happen during this exact somebody didn't use the form and we got incomplete data exact what happened when we posted this up well we got several proposals 32 proposals to be exact and we hired two people here are the proposals we got and I'll show you how I hired people and what I was thinking here off the bat nine proposals were archived a few of these were withdrawn by freelancers so upward gives you the option to invite freelancers I invited a whole bunch of ones that I thought would be into this some weren't which is typical and up work some people will decline the interview and then only one I actually turned down hey Alex I'm a web savvy lead generation expert excellent with targeting and identifying potential prospects using LinkedIn and Google search I can find skate shops coffee stores so this guy I hired and then turn them down let's look at the two that I hired I hired two people Joe Bayer Hasan and Maria and their messages look like this hello Alex thank you for the invitation I am interested for this opportunity kindly give me an offer hello Alex I'm very interested on your project lead generation list building for local businesses I'm a freelancer with more than 4,000 up work hours so these are stock messages but this is also 25 cents a lead so my mindset going in was I'm just gonna hire a bunch of people and some are gonna be good some are gonna be bet and then not only did I send him the leads I split them up so I hired two freelancers one tackled all the states east of Texas to find these skate shops one tackled all the states west of Texas and the reason I did that is so that there were no duplicates there was no need to check for duplicates because I mean they were looking in totally different areas and then I have this nice diagram that I sent each person so they know exactly what states to target show buyers leads were great but what I really love about this strategy and what worked so well here is I didn't give him any real instructions I told him to find boutique shops but typically what I would have done in this situation is filmed myself finding a few of these leads first to give him a framework to work in but what I learned over the course of this experiment is lead generators have been doing this for a really long time now there's no need to teach them how to find email addresses how to find any type of store they'll just be able to do it I just clicked this link at random and 4:06 we are a lifestyle brand and shop that promotes art music style forward-thinking in Montana living there a retail store this is a perfect lead now let me show you the other one so that was Joe buyer great dude probably will hire him again the only downside about him was it was a flat fee of $25 for a hundred leads and he generated more than a hundred leads and invoiced me for $35 to cover the extra leads which I thought was sketchy but I paid him the $35 anyway because he generated extra leads no but it is sketchy so maybe I won't hire him again because of that but the lead qualities piece now let's look at Maria Maria Concepcion stow Tomas broke every rule she broke every rule she didn't even use the Google Form she submitted her leads in an excel sheet what year is it 2010 what is it Microsoft Excel what even is this but the exact thing that I promised would happen and the thing we were trying to fight against by having the Google Form happened she's missing data so we got the business name we got the website we got the name of the owner the title which we didn't ask for the email and the phone number but we're missing the city and the state to vital pieces of information that if we're doing state by state lead gen would have really come in handy these leads are also good and Maria did it without instructions so we're two for two hiring freelancers on up work twenty five cents a lead with almost no instruction I don't know if we got lucky or what but we're two for two I would love to see you replicate this experiment for your business and let me know do you get the same results twenty five cents a lead are they high quality or are they terrible thanks for watching the video if you found this valuable I would love if you would share it with a friend who could also get value from it give it a like give it a comment do that experiment that would be very valuable actually I love data I'm a data guy and I'll talk to you later take care
