there is a lot of confusion about what are the requirements to be a pharmaceutical sales rep so i decide i decided to make this video to clarify that point the bottom line is that there are only two requirements to be able to be a pharmaceutical sales rep the first requirement is to have a bachelor's degree it doesn't matter in you know what topic you know what area you got the bachelor's degree as long as you have a bachelor's degree you know managers will interview you if you don't have the bachelor's degree it doesn't matter what are your qualifications because you will not be able to come to the interviews and be considered for the position as an example have a very good friend of mine who was a pharmaceutical sales rep for cheering plough 10 years of experience number one rep in the nation and in his country he didn't need a bachelor's degree all he needed was an associate when he moved to the u.s he tried to come back to the industry even with all that experience uh pharmaceutical companies will not uh take him in consideration until he finished his degree so if you don't have a bachelor's degree it's going to be really really difficult to get into pharmaceutical cells the second requirement is to have cells experience once again it doesn't really have to be in medical cells or pharmaceutical cells it can be in other areas but you know you need some sales experience you have you need to be able to prove that you can sell before you come into this industry this second requirement there's there's some room for you to get into pharma without the sales experience i have met people that have made it you know i have friends uh colleagues that they were teachers and they came into the industry they broke into pharmaceuticals i had some other friends that they were in the military they had a military background and they got into pfizer because you know pfizer seems to favor you know people with military background but um i have to say that without the sales experience it's a lot more difficult but not impossible so these colleagues of mine that didn't have sales experience they had another thing in their hand which was a strong network there were friends with the pharmaceutical sales rep they were friends with hiring managers so you know the lack of sales experience was compensated or balanced with the fact that they had a strong network if you don't have a strong network i really suggest you to work in your background in sales you know get some experience in sales so that can put you in a better position to find a job in pharmaceuticals now the second part is what i call the disqualifying factors because without the bachelor or the sales experience it's really difficult to be taken into account or get interviews and all of that and you can still if you have those two you can get to the interviews and all of that but so the point is the second part of the equation is what i call the disqualifying factors because without sales experience and the bachelor's degree is going to be really hard to get an interview but that doesn't really mean that you can get the job because if you have one of the disqualifying factors you can have the bachelor's degree you can have the experience but at the end you are not going to be able to work for a pharmaceutical component so in this second part i'm going to talk about this disqualifying factors that will prevent you from having a job in pharmaceutical cells and the number one thing is to have a criminal record i mean companies before they hire you they're gonna um make a very intense background check and if you have a felony criminal history even though if you make it to the end stages of the process that is going to disqualify you for the job so if that's your case unfortunately this is probably not the best job for you number two if you have a history of a dui in the last three to five years that can also be a disqualifying because remember companies are gonna give you a company car they're gonna pay for your insurance and you know if you have that in your history that's something they don't want to have to deal with number three is your credit history if your credit history is horrible you you may have like a bankruptcy or really bad credit history that can also disqualify you because companies are also going to give you a corporate credit card and your application can be denied so imagine if they they give you the job and then you cannot do travel and entertainment expenses and all of that so if that's your case my recommendation is if there's a way to fix that and you can start working to fix your credit history and start doing it right now so when it gets in better shape you can definitely apply to to become a pharmaceutical sales rep other than that you're good to go so if this is the type of job that you would like to have i'm gonna ask you to get my training videos and put yourself in the best position to find that dream job thank you
