Mechanic receipt for Procurement
YouTube this is Matt with the purposed right today I wanted to talk to you about how your automotive repair bills are calculated a lot of people think that the mechanic is just trying to rip them off well in some cases that's probably true but in probably 98% of the cases it's just that the people don't understand how their bill is actually calculated they go off of what is called a flat rate manual in the old days it was actually in a book here like this and that's how they calculated how they repaired your vehicle new modern times it's all online and all on the computer so they look up what job they're going to do on your car multiply it by what their hourly shop rate is which anywhere nationally nationwide is anywhere from about $75 an hour to about 140 140 dollars an hour yeah crazy but say that job is says it's supposed to take one hour to do just like on this old Cadillac Eldorado the labor rate is says one hour to change the radiator hoses well what if the mechanic ran into a little bit of problems it was corroded because it was up in Michigan the clamps broke on them he had a hard time getting it off and it took him an hour and a half to do it guess what he charges you for one hour so like on this a Nissan engine removal the full engine assembly including parts or transfer of parts to the new engine is 15.7 hours times $80 an hour shop rate ends up being twelve hundred and fifty six dollars labor to change the engine on a on a Nissan well guess what that job says 15.7 hours I'll buy the man a cup of coffee that can do it in fifteen point seven hours because it's really bought more like about 19 or 20 hours to change it because you'll always run into some little problems here and there along way but you still a reputable mechanic is only going to charge them fifteen point seven hours now also when it comes to your parts you called the parts tour O'Reilly bumper-to-bumper autozone car quest any of them and you found out that your part was only 3995 well when you take it to auto repair shop they are going to charge you full list price for example here I have a fuel filter or a transmission filter kit assembly here and it is full this price is fifty seven dollars but the actual cost for a shop to go in there and buy that is thirty five seventy well the reason why they charge the extra is because if something went wrong on whatever part that you bought in a reasonable amount of time usually anywhere from 90 to 120 days they will replace that part which they're going to get warrantied but they're going to not charge you any labor again so that's almost like an insurance policy for a shop so they can that protects them in case they had the job has to be redone which from no fault of their own but a good mechanic shop is going to understand that you're not going to pay the labor twice for a part that failed now there is a there is some recourse sometimes they can get from the manufacturers and get a labor claim but that's a lot of paperwork and a lot of times they say well it was still 90 days the part failed it wasn't you know we're not going to give you a labor claim or the labor claim is only at $50 an hour when their shop rate is $100 an hour so they're only going to give you a half the price you know in 1st Timothy 5 this says and a laborer is worthy of his wages well so is a reputable auto mechanic he is worthy of his wages he's got anywhere from probably 40 to some guys I know in the hundreds thousand dollars worth of tools and equipment to repair and diagnose your car yeah that's crazy as much as some people pay for a home they have Rock wrapped up in their parts or their their tools and equipment to repair your car and it's getting more and more costly every year for auto mechanic that's why some of the shops are upwards of the hundred and forty dollars an hour range now the other thing that I want to say is you need to review your bill and having a idea about what they're doing because there are some shops that might actually what I consider double charging you when they have to take a valve cover off to change the valve cover gasket and you are going to change the spark plugs at the same time well guess what I would have to take half of that stuff off to do the smart plugs anyway and that's the same stuff I would have to take off to do the valve cover so a reputable mechanic would say look I'm only going to charge you half of what it is to change the spark plugs because I'm taking this other parts off anyway to do your valve cover gasket so remember to ask your mechanic look or is any of this work I am I getting somewhat double billed for are you taking some of those parts off and a lot of them will say you know what I will reduce that I will reduce that some because I am double working and really charging you for the same thing twice but in the same fact you can attempt to do some of these things on your own by watching some of these YouTube videos and a good mechanic is why you take your car to them because you take this part off like the video says you take this part off like the video says and guess what this other thing came out that wasn't in the video that's what you pay a mechanic for that has a good grasp and understanding of all the workings and ins and outs of all the systems on a car so they can put it right back in there and you don't have to pay for a tow truck to take your now basket case to a shop and hope that they will work on it and not charge you extra for you attempting to do something that really could have been a simple job and maybe paid $100 but now you have a hundred and forty dollar tow bill and 140 dollar bill at your Auto mechanics shop as well so keep in mind to not do things that would be somewhat above your skill level or pay grade and don't frustrate your mechanic saying you know I try to save a couple of bucks and in the meantime I made things a lot more difficult for you so just remember that they're doing the job based on what a manufacturer suggested that takes to do the job and they are going to bill you ingly they're not trying to rip you off but again like first Timothy five a worker is do his wages so just remember here at the purpose right that we try to inform you with good reviews and techniques on things as well as information that you can use to help you maybe not pay an exorbitant amount for your auto repair bills as well as paying him what he's worth so now it brings us to the end and just as always Jesus loves you and we love you and there's nothing you can do about it thank you guys
