[Music] let's say you receive a payment from a customer but it's a partial payment of an invoice that had previously been entered into quickbooks so previously we showed you to do that you can go to new and then under customers you could go down to receive payment and the name of the customer is freeman sporting goods they have two locations so i want to click on the first one and notice there is an invoice 1036 for 477 dollars and 50 cents we could make the we could click here and make the partial payment of 200 right here but i'm going to not do it this way so i'm going to show you an alternate way to enter this payment so i'm going to cancel do i want to leave without saving yes so another way to do that same transaction is we can go to the customer section so we go to sales and then go down to customers and then we're going to go down to freeman and notice there's they have two locations and the one that we want to make a partial payment towards is the 477.50 invoice so to do that we're going to click on receive payment it's already filled in the customer and then i'm going to tab down to the payment field the payment was zero two twenty three twenty eight which is february twenty third two thousand twenty eight i'm going to hit tab they paid by check and hit tab reference number means what's the check number that they paid with 12.55 and we're going to make sure that the deposit 2 is undeposited funds which is our cash register or our safe or our locked box in other words it's not the cash account at the bank we're not depositing this now and instead of paying for the full 477.5 we can change that to the amount that they truly paid which is 200 and then notice the amount received matches the amount that is paid down here against invoice 1036. so then we confirm that everything is correct and then down here we can choose save and close if that's not available it will be available by click on the down arrow but save and close is available here so i'm just going to click save and close and then when we scroll down to freeman's sporting goods now we notice that the invoice has a balance of only 277.5
