The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) FSIS is the public health agency in USDA that is responsible for ensuring that meat, poultry, and egg products are safe, wholesome, and properly labeled. More than 7,700 FSIS employees work in over 6,600 plants across the nation enforcing food safety regulations to prevent foodborne illness.
