Let me tell you what I did to get 100,000 downloads for my first app without any marketing budget,within 99 days.It was my first app and since   I was just a   student ,that means I  didn't had any money to advertise.However I managed 150$.1.   The selling point for my app was the UI/UX. And for me the presentation was everything. I knew I was short on budget,and I wanted to convert every  click into a download (i mean there is a high probability that if a person clicks on the link,he may not download it because of poor screenshots)So good,professional looking screenshots were Page on important.so for that I needed a photoshop professional(although I designed the app myself,I wasn't very good at photoshop) so I hired a guy from freelancing websites.I paid the guy 50$ for 5 screenshotsgood iconI then hired a guy for the video.Now if you don't know how most of the videos are made,you may end up paying 150-400$there are websites  from where you can buy templates for virtually everything.So we purchased a 25$ template,hired a guy for 40$ to do the changes to it.So the whole video was done for 65$2   I  got fake facebook likes(40,000 likes for 40$ people are real but they don't come to know when they liked the page,there are scripts for fake facebook likes) as we thought it can be used as an audience,but turns out it was a waste,as facebook has changed it algorithms,and a post's visibility only increases if it gets enough momentum(i.e comments and likes).And it is quite obvious that no one would be interested in  a post from a page which they never liked themselves.The post never signNowed 40,000 people which was our intended target.     3.  I got the description done,ourselves.There are websites for SEO (or ASO ,app search optimization)like sensor tower which can be used for figuring out which keyword to use.4.  Added 1000+ friends on facebook from my college before the launch5.  I launched the app.6.  I gave credit to those people on how they were so supportive and accepted our random friend requests and then sneaked in the download link with  very pretty images.People like to take credits for no reason ,just like they want to feel good and superior and want to be  a part of something, without any reason,I just exploited it.7.  The early downloads and reviews were quite important8.  They reviewed and downloaded.About 200-300 of them.9.  Just after I launched it,I changed my schedule and started sleeping 9 hrs in 2 days .i.e 4.5 hrs a day,with 3 hrs of sleeping shifts. i searched for lists of websites which review android apps.Sent them a copy pasted message and often making intentional mistakes while typing the subject  like "Android 'ApP' Review",to get their attention as you are not the only one sending them emails. we tried to make it look as professional as we  could.But  tried to keep the message friendly.I posted them 100 each day.10. Spamming on facebook groups.The post here doesn't have to be professional and the screenshots should not look professional,if they are ,(these screenshots were differnt from the ones one the app page)  you will give an impression that your app comes from a company and it won't appear as a personal request but like an advertisement which you don't want.I posted them 100 each day11. Sending messages to youtubers to review it and then posting on their new videos ,asking people to try it and asking the channel owner to review it.I posted them 100 each day or maybe more.12. Posting  on reddit,forums, qoura etc.13. reviews from feverr.14. backlinks.15. update regularly.    We  did this for 20 days. The rest of the downloads were all organic(means they were due to people searching for a music player etc,rather than clicking somewhere)13. Now the app is  getting 2000+ downloads per day on average (for the last 20 days).All of them are organic.As of now,(i.e 14th october,the app stands at 95,000 downloadsCurrenlty when you search for a  "music player" our app ranks at the number 20.And it is the only app within the top 20 with a range of 50,000-100,000 range.All other apps have atleast 1/2 million downloads.With the maximum at 500 million.P.S if you want to have a look at the app,send me a message or write a comment :)

He couldn’t read or speak English, so he relied on other Polish business owners to hire him.A butcher.A mechanic.A candy shop.A trucking company.Often working two jobs at once, he went through ten different employers in six years. If a company offered him a nickel raise, he was gone.He found a beautiful Polish girl from his hometown and married young. After a long day working two jobs, he would brag about running his own business one day.Always happy to keep him on his toes, she would respond with, “Start by learning the language.”Building His BrandChicago winters are bitterly cold.Working as a mechanic for a large trucking company, he built a reputation as someone who wouldn’t turn down a job.If a steel mill called with a broken down truck on the lake front, he took the job without complaint. He went all in.The beautiful Polish bride of his played a major role in his success. With one baby at home and another on the way, she held down the house while he worked long hours, often on the road.Her English was solid so she wore many hats in the company, from accounting to interacting with lawyers. They made quite the team.SnowballThat customer ran out of work but made a few calls on his behalf, knowing his English was so bad that he might scare them away on his own.“Hey, I got this Polish kid who is really good. He’ll work hard and the price is right.”One referral led to another and pretty soon he was getting steady business.Some of those early customers took advantage of him. Some didn’t pay. Others paid him only a portion of what he was owed, knowing he needed them more than they needed him.It didn’t faze him. His days of cold calling were over.The pride he showed in taking care of customers was all the marketing he ever needed.The quality of his work led to more business. How many businesses are completely selfless?In his view, telling the customer this story would defeat the point of doing something nice. It would look like he only did it to get more future business.“You know Ian, what goes around, comes around.”If you see a commercial touting some social cause, it is hard to see it as anything other than a profit-driven, calculated move by a big company.People “like” each other’s posts on social media just to get a return “like”.“Follow then Unfollow” is a strategy touted by the gurus.If a customer sends in a complimentary letter to a big company, some manager will inevitably ask if they can write it again, but this time on their website. They want that ROG - Return On Gratitude.When Winston Churchill was a young soldier, he wrote his mom from the front lines, complaining that no one had noticed when he’d dragged a wounded soldier to safety. “Given an audience there is no act too daring or too noble. Without the gallery things are different.”That’s not my father-in-law.He pulled over on the side of a busy highway in the freezing cold because that customer meant something to him.He remembers where he came from and how hard it was to build his business. He hasn’t forgotten what it was like to not have customers.He remembers all ten of those dead-end jobs. He remembers what it was like to cold call without speaking the language.He appreciates every customer.That, is how you become successful in business.Me and my guy “Chief” on a recent trip where I learned more about business than any MBA course could teach.

There are apps that just go viral, like flappy bird, but be aware that he had made more than 30 games which are pretty unheard of.Many promotion tutorials start off saying: " If you don't have a budget for advertising, then you should etc. etc...", but keep in mind that even if you could spend $50,000 on ads right now, you might very well end up losing money because you need a LOT of traffic to earn back those $50,000.I just read a review from someone that complained how a few days after he ended his campaign (he put in a lot of money and got into the featured list) his app went way down the list again...Sometimes paying for ads is the way to go (especially if you think it'll spread organically after your campaign) but it's not always the way to go. It's very easy to spend all your cash on ads, but you have to have a very good plan on getting it back.Here are some tips for getting organic downloads:1) Build a social community on Facebook and Twitter. It takes time, but it's something you'll need to retain your community and keep them involved. You have to post good quality content and make them feel part of something. You should let users access your social pages through your app. People nowadays only click on things that are very "clickable" and in front of their faces. 2) Try to get reviewed onwebsites that do app reviews and on YouTube channels that do app reviews. Send them an email, or if you can't find it send them a message on social media. You can do both. Be persistent with them, and don't get discouraged if they don't answer you after the first or second time. They're like all of us - sometimes we pay attention to something only the fifth time we see it. Just make sure not to give them a feeling that you're spamming them (even though that's actually what you're doing... :)). Don't send them a boring plain message. Don't send something you yourself wouldn't have the patience to look at. I'm sure they've already got an abundance of annoying things in their life and don't need your help. Add nice pictures/video.3) Compete in app contests.4) Have as good ASO as possible. For good ASO use keywords that people frequently use when looking for an app like yours. Put them in the app description and possibly in the title. Use sites like AppAny and SearchMan to help you find the right keywords.5) Get your friends and family to download and give good reviews, as the more downloads and good reviews you have, the better your rank will be.6) Using forums like Quora and Reddit can also help. This requires a ton of creativity, as you can't just go around promoting your app. You'll probably get disqualified.7) Find out about speaking opportunitiesHope I helped!

Link building used to be simple: you would go out there, write a bunch of articles, submit them to an article submission site and get an external link back to your site.That doesn't work in the post-Penguin era where this could get you a high PR (page rank). If you're doing business online, I think that’s this is the worst advice that you could ever get. Instead, you need to learn how to build a high quality backlink the right way.Backlinks will remain a vital Google ranking factor. But, effective link building is now about trust and popularity. Only a high quality backlink works in this model. According to Copyblogger, domain trust/authority represents 23.87% of Google’s ranking algorithm.A survey by Moz reveals that about 37% of business owners spend between $10,000 and $50,000 per month on external link building. Once it’s indexed, you can go ahead and get real links that can improve your rankings.How to help Google find and index your content: Some of the posts that I’ve written in the last month were indexed within six hours. To achieve this, I used a simple tool - Alexa.Google's spiders crawl Keyword Research, Competitor Analysis, & Website Ranking | Alexa all the time. When you input your site URL on Alexa and look up the metrics, Alexa adds a new, optimized page to the database:When Google next crawls the Alexa site, your new content will be picked up by search engines as well.There's another way to get your content indexed. A few months back, I published a data-driven infographic on how Google uses social signals to determine rankings. In essence, social media helps with faster indexing and visibility. The right content is like a Google press release getting your recognized.Getting strong social signals suggests to Google that people find your content useful and choose to share it. That can help Google rate your high quality content, which means that by the time you start building inbound links to it, any website link becomes natural.To build social signals, I recommend that you share your post on Google+ (it's a no-brainer, since it's Google's own network).This is simple. The Google Penguin 3.0 update reminded us that focusing on what people want, why they should click a link and the value that they will get when they land on the referred page is what truly counts in today’s SEO.Step #2: How to Scale Your Link Building EffortsMany people find link building and link acquisition stressful. One reason is because they are not producing great content that people will gladly share.In Moz's classic book, “How to Rank,” Cyrus Shepard recommends that “90% of your effort should go into creating great content, and 10% into link building.” This is the 90/10 rule of link building.As harsh as it sounds, Shepard says that if you are struggling to generate a high quality backlink to your site, it’s likely that you have reversed the rule.If you want to succeed with scalable link building, you need quality content that will warrant the high PR.Link building is all about positioning your content and getting more people to link to you. In other words, a single post can be used to gain many quality links to your site.A high quality external link has two key advantages over traditional links: relevance and trust. Here's the difference:Let’s say that you have a dog training site and you get an inbound link from an article directory. Google won't see that website link as relevant to the subject of your site.But, if that link acquisition is from a site that’s related to dog training, like a dog food store or a discussion board that’s centered around dogs, you will not only improve your rankings, but your site will be relevant and valuable to those who visit it. And, that will help you get with more link acquisition and achieve a high PR.How do you find authority sites where you can build relationships and start the process of gaining relevant links? One useful tool is Similar Site Search.Type in your site URL (I'm using Quick Sprout in this example) and hit the "Search" button.The result is a list of sites covering topics related to mine. This is only a first step, as I still need to build relationships with site owners, so they'll want to link to my content.Once you have identified some sites, then you need to research them further to figure out which ones will help most in your link building efforts. Here are some of the key metrics to look at:Domain Authority: It's important to know the domain authority of the sites that you consider for link acquisition. A great tool for this is the Moz Bar, which shows the authority status of any domain or keyword in the search results.Domain relevancy: As I said above, getting links from relevant domains is a key part of scalable link building. Domain relevancy is also a key Google ranking factor and is especially important if you want to escape the impact of Google Penguin on your search engine rank.Microsite Masters found that “every single site that they looked at that got negatively hit by the Penguin Update had a “money" keyword as its anchor text for over 60% of its incoming links.”That tells you that if you want to scale your external link building efforts, you must combine domain relevancy with the right anchor text.Trust flow: This is a metric, analyzed by Majestic, that provides a much better measurement of perceived quality. Trust flow was specially designed to determine the quality of links pointing to a site. It ranges from 0 to 100. The higher the number, the better. In this example, Bing has a trust flow of 86, which is excellent.If most of your backlinks come from sites with high trust flow metrics, your SEO rankings will improve, you will have a high PR and link acquisition will become easier.Use Majestic to analyze the links that currently point to your site. Input the root domain into the box and click the search icon.Scroll down and look at the backlinks. In addition to the URL and the trust flow, Majestic also shows citation flow, which I'll discuss in a minute.For the domain we are analyzing (Nerd Fitness), the first referring site is The Art of Manliness. The more inbound links a site has, the better their citation flow but this doesn't necessarily mean a high PR. On its own, citation flow isn't very useful, because quality is more important than quantity with link building.However, when you use citation flow with trust flow, it works well to help you identify sites that are both trusted and influential. Target sites with a high trust flow, then focus on link acquisition in that group that also have a high perceived influence, or citation flow.In the example above, Nerd Fitness is a fitness site that helps you level up your life and feel better about yourself. Since Art of Manliness deals with men's fitness and health, it is definitely related in content and target audience.Branded keywords and anchor text: Anchor text is also important when assessing the quality of a site. But, link building is also about increasing the strength, juice and potential of your inbound links. That's why it's essential to create a two-tier linking structure for your site.Tier 1 backlinks are links you earn/build directly to your site.Tier 2 backlinks are links that directly pass ranking value to tier-one links.If you get a link to your ‘money page’ from a new post on someone else’s blog, that website link may not add much value to your site ranking. Most of the time, direct backlinks to your site can take a while to have an effect. But, when you strengthen those backlinks, you will see a bump in organic traffic and rankings.One way to strengthen those links is with social signals. But, to earn those links, you have to provide immense value. You can’t just put some text together and pray for miracles.
