[Music] hello fourth graders welcome back i am mrs lamondo here to bring you our lesson on our new hampshire unit today today we're talking all about the economy of our great state of new hampshire today is just going to be um one lesson we're not going to split it into two so we will be working with our slideshows today so let's talk a little bit about the economy the economy is the way a place uses its natural resources goods and services we learned that tourism is a large part of new hampshire's economy there are many other aspects or parts to our economy that means that people visiting our state of new hampshire is a great way for our state to make revenue or make money for the state in terms of revenue generated that means money made new hampshire's top five agricultural products are so agricultural products are things that can be grown first is greenhouse and nursery products so if you go to a greenhouse and they have different plants there that's a huge part of our economy next up is dairy products obviously things like milk cheese yogurt followed by apples cattle and calves and sweet corn so those are the top five things that are grown in new hampshire or produced in new hampshire that make revenue or money for our state the biggest natural resource in new hampshire is its dense forests approximately 85 percent of the state is still covered by forests today other natural resources include granite and farm crops now we live in southern new hampshire so a lot of times we don't see very dense forests all around us but the vast majority of our state is actually forest new hampshire's forests produce both softwood and hardwood trees some of the softwood trees include spruce balsam fir cedar and white pine oak ash birch and maple are among the hardwood trees the state's climate and lush soil helps to contribute to the growth of this resource the state of new hampshire also produces a variety of different types of granite the most common types are red and gray granite and large deposits of these are found throughout the state granite is a durable stone used in a variety of different applications including countertops buildings paving and monuments next time you're at school look at our sign on our front lawn the posts are granite walk up the steps in the front or back of the building those steps are granite let's talk about jobs now an important part of the economy surprisingly forestry and farming are not the top jobs in new hampshire despite our ample forests what do you think the top jobs in new hampshire are what jobs do you think most people in new hampshire have you may be surprised by what you learn number three is manufacturing so many people manufacture goods here in our state our second most popular job is financial services people who work in places like fidelity or banks and manage money and accounts and our number one job in the entire state of new hampshire is health care this includes doctors nurses people who work in the offices any kind of person within the healthcare industry is the number one job here in our state of new hampshire so today we're going to show what we know by adding things to our slide t slide r inside j you are going to need your slideshow and also you're going to need to open the document in google classroom that says nh slideshow lesson nine so first for slide j we're gonna highlight all three of these control c to copy control and c hold them down when we go to our slideshow we want to go to the j slide our is quickly filling up click where it says click to add text control v to paste there are three main jobs in new hampshire back to our document r is for natural resources we are going to highlight all of these highlight control c back to our slideshow we're going to go down to slide r for resources click where it says click to add text control v to paste and last but certainly not least if we go back to our document t is for top products we're going to highlight all of these control c to copy back to our slideshow find slide t click where it says click to add text control v to paste there are our top products once you have your information copied and pasted into your slideshow for today that's all you have for today as always if you have any questions please feel free to check in with your teacher we are here to help all right fourth graders that's all for today i'll see you next time bye
