hey there my name's Jacob Kauffman thanks for signing up to make some phone calls to let Democrats in 2020 you can do this in a group with others or at home by yourself like I'm doing right now we've got a short video for you to watch that will explain how to log on and start making calls we're gonna call likely Democratic voters who don't vote that often we're reaching out to them now or early on so that we can start the conversation we'll be following up with each voter in the months to come this is an initial short short conversation we're being smart and laying the groundwork for future calls door knocks and candidate based outreach but we don't want to overreach on these initial calls to this group of voters all campaigns will save time and money if they have up-to-date accurate information about who to contact and what phone numbers work it'll also help generate some turnout for this March primary election coming up and beyond so thank you though for deciding to do something Democratic voters and volunteers we really need your help this year I'm gonna walk you through how to set up an action ID how to access open vpb and how to use the survey responses so that we can have the data available immediately as soon as you phone bank there we go you can see here that I've got action ID pulled up and if you just type into your browser that accounts primary NGP van dot-com you'll get this login screen and if you have an action ID that's wonderful that's what you're gonna need in order to access the BBB if you don't have an action ID you will click on create an action ID and just follow the prompts to set up an action ID it's quick and easy and this action ID will follow you for life you can use it on any campaign going forward so I encourage you use just your personal email address and setup just follow the prompts and set up your action ID [Music] and when you do that you'll be able to access something called open VP B and if you will click on the link that we're gonna send you through email you'll see this screen right here this to get started or if you just type in open VP be calm it will prompt you for a code that looks a lot like this code up here in the browser in the search window here but you don't have to type in any of those it's a lot of numbers and letters yet as you can see so we'll be providing it with a link and it'll bring you right to this screen and if you're logged in already with your action ID then you'll all be able to just get started and if you're not then it'll prompt you to login and you'll hit login [Music] and then look at this you've got a wonderful script in front of you you've got a little bit of information about a voter in Arkansas and you've got survey questions here so you can select a response and determine if this person is actually going to be voting for Democrats a super valuable information for us to know so that we can follow up with them and make sure that they're getting to the polls and then if they are if they're not if they're not sure where they are supporting a different party then you'll just end the call politely if they are a Democratic supporter you'll move into a volunteer ask so you'll let them know hey we got to do everything we can over the next few years if we're going to get people elected you represent our values we need people like you to help out can we count on you to volunteer and you'll select their response here and just hover over it with your mouse and select the correct response and move on and then our final and third question is it alright if Democrats contact you on your cell phone and you can select yes if they're willing to for us to reach out to them on their cell phone through text message or voice mail or we're through old-fashioned call and we'll have that information collected and that's the end of the call so you'll just thank them thank you so much for speaking with me to share your and sharing your thoughts early voting for responses except it won't you'll have to unselect any if you had selected survey responses click I couldn't reach Amy the majority of your phone calls are going to be not home so that's gonna be about 80% of the calls a good night for phone banking is we reach 20% of the people 20% of the people that we call actually pick up their phone and talk to us so that means that the majority are actually going to be not home and I have a list here of all of the responses and how to mark the call status as I mentioned not home is gonna be your most popular option but you've also got refused if they said that they were uninterested or they're not interested in that or they hung up I knew before you could even tell them why you're dialing deceased unfortunately that happens on occasion it's got an asterisk by it any of these that have an asterisk by it means that that person is going to be removed from any future call lists so that is that's also really good information for us to have so if you think you're getting a lot of wrong numbers or disconnected or do not call don't worry that's still good information for us to have so you've also gotten my move if the person tells you that they moved you can type in their address and they know it's filled if you if they if they'll allow you to have that the notes field is right down here and you'll have call back as an option if you actually talk to the motor but they were on their way out the door or they just couldn't talk to you right then but you know for sure that that's the right person see when it mark them is a callback so they'll be included in future lists busy is only if you get a busy signal and it isn't very common so make sure that most of your responses are either not home call back busy is just not gonna be you're mostly going to get voicemails so you're usually not gonna get a busy signal just know that wrong number you're going to get some wrong numbers and if you do that just let them know sorry to trouble you be real quick and polite and move on disconnected you're gonna get some of these if you get a tritone with a message following stating that the number has been disconnected or is no longer in service and just mark it again that's good information for us to have because that takes out that phone number for future phone banks so we won't be trying that person again there are that number again and then you can always mark them as do not call if they just say maybe they're supportive but they don't like phone calls that happens on occasion so just go ahead and let them know we'll we'll make note of that that they don't want phone calls in the future got other language is the link if there's a language barrier and then hostile if somebody is verbally abusive towards you or your candidate that's it I recommend you practice with a partner and happy dialing
