go a PT one route the fact I believe Brett Marshall told me this morning that Michael is a third wrestler in the history of Garden City to sign Division one so without any more information for me I'm going to turn over to coach it Michael this is your decision so that Deb I know where you going I'm sure everybody knows I'm going to South Dakota State University first of all as a dad you know I just want to say I'm really really proud of Michael I guess huge for the program one of the things that Coach bono was a head coach at South Dakota State mentioned you know you basically said this goes wild you guys will later the radar we should have been on you a lot sooner and he also mentioned this back and asked me do you have any other kids that I need to be looking out for so I think we in place people you know I notice that be a part of the program that can't reduce Nealon athletes if that's the route that you want to go and so you guys start believing in you know that hard work and determination to to get there but this is a dream of Michael's since he was a little kid I do remember one specific incident we went to the NCL days and I think it was his freshman year and he turn around to me and said dad I want to be here in a couple years so you know he has that opportunity I think the plan is from him a wrestler his first year and if that happens so hopefully in a couple years we'll get to see them down again c-double-a tournament if that happens then behind you guys are going to be going with us anyway alright so Michael talk a little bit about the process because it's it was an unusual senior year in some respects because you've decided early on that you didn't want to have coaches touching base with you during the season and you set out the first month and so to talk about the impact that that had on the recruiting once the season was over and then you began the process and how that process worked out over the last couple of months your decisions of where to go visit and who had been in touch with pieceofthecake it's kind of in a big picture talk about that yeah before the season started I had Nebraska Kearney in question stay in touch with me and in the summer I had Virginia's early and then kind of after my accident my co a couple of those coaches fell off and whatever I like to visit to Kearney listeners made as soon as I saw the dressing they kind of fell off to Saudi I know where else did they go from there but what's Crispo contacted me so with Mideast wind a touch from first touch base with you I first met him when I would say NC double-a tournament and then his a head assistant John Peter texted me right after our state tournament and then I got such a return from there what's the biggest thing he sold you on Southwest just they're interesting they were the only coaches to actually ask for Fennell who actually like studied me and so I like that right there was like how personally you take that knowing what you accomplished hear that the division white interest was an assistant as high as it should they didn't really call me that - I only had to do an offer so that involve beautiful then to suffocate me I need us I mean it's just because they believe in me when you go to that next weapon what would be the weight division that you would most likely be looking at down the road I'm gonna rest her and then I probably build 141 my first year and the coaches want me to go on for you I'm after that it looks to me like Coach Bonin he's been there for years and that their program was just gotten increased had a great season what do you see with him and the program and how that fit and how you put it down the road with that I was elected for them they have but one guy specific about that tax evasion shot she said he's like basically I see myself as and he's great on top and going there I feel like he's really gonna make me the better wrestler all talk that I need to be and that program is definitely going in the right direction he's made up forgot even the scoring any points to tip five cents double-a tournament and placing top fifty now how important is it to Richard and a lot people against one get going right away technique it that year to develop reward so how important is that first year for you I think the residents going to really be careful the coaches and I'll stop practicing they're going to give you their full attention as long as I different my kitchen back that's going to make me that much better and then my practice parts are going to be doing wait room says to call it be a key part of that whole year of having that added to get stronger yeah he told me he wants me to be integrated well he's full-time taking five times a week to give me big enough to was your you know reaction at all about when he made your visit their campus was really nice it was a big and that was a big one for you too their campus was hard to get around my dad some about the work was teachers there and they seemed really nice they're involved with the students and that's one staff that was there that their facilities are just gonna continue to get better maybe putting in money that they have that they're redoing a lot of their facilities so they had it's almost done you're seeing here yelling with each where did you get stronger postage really tender decisions probably got straw has commenced we would be what I thought it is especially coming back from my injury I had not a champion stuff from my wrestling perspective and then definitely appreciate the sport award and also Bill Nelson something now that you've had a little bit of time between the state championship and now when you look back are you somewhat amazed that you were able to do what you're doing knowing that yet broken bones in your foot and hip pointer and all sorts of different things going on I mean is that kind of like a little surreal at this point I have again tell us something about your character though that you were able to work through all of that and still accomplish what you wanted he was like yeah there was like the innocent I would say it's great to be the first more time there so I knew I decided everything I thought what else well me no matter what happens we'll be probably so I just I had no think with these ones that might take us back to that contract is any soon and he wasn't sure if he was going to be there for that much longer so I don't want to go there sign there that the coaches he leaves in a year or two and then I started you know I had culture and then at the Harmonia coaches so that was a big one for you sir and you get the side benefit because of just the way it works out that South Dakota State is an affiliate member of the big 12 so you're gonna be wrestling to the big 12 yeah that a huge attraction to / to South Dakota State yeah they recently just want to be total vessel and I saw him aired wrestled a shift because and say their spouse seeing the coaches get after anyone they they're heading in the right direction so it's going to be you know I talked recently with somebody about the review process from western Kansas kids not just in wrestling but across the board in all sports where where does the exposure now that you can look back on and that where does the exposure need to come from for kids from this area to be able to attract if the interest of beat one coaches the biggest thing is in this sub I just I've tried to travel outside of state I did a lot as a kid too as well and the special touch schedule we have for high school that's going to help you apply as long as you consumer your probably looking good at those tournaments you're gonna get recognized and you have an idea of what you want to study when you first get to school undecided what do you think that for years has taught you that will help you at the next level part of the big thing is talking a lot of hard work without hard work here not gonna achieve your goals write down their goals as well that's quite a big thing the coaches my coaches told me but you do that a lot this year before his season starts they give us a little packet you have to figure it out or you know time you can't practice for a lot so filling out your goals the biggest name that way you know what you have say say your eyes on before the
