world so yes very exciting times so today i'm going to talk about how nvidia is changing the world of healthcare through ai so before that a quick background about nvidia you all know right we we as nvidia started our journey in the world of graphics by accelerating one of the most complex workflows of 3d rendering and gaming so taking the same technology and the same gpus we entered into the world of compute and we developed a parallel computing platform called cuda so through cuda we accelerated uh you know some of the most important hpc applications by giving like 8 x 10 x 12 x speed ups and um and then taking the same technology we entered into the world of ai and today with these three important technologies we are accelerating almost almost like every industry on the planet whether it is self-driving cars or media entertainment or oil and gas or finance or even the most important industry of today which is healthcare so here is a quick snapshot of you know nvidia's contribution in the field of healthcare so you can see every every known instrument manufacturer has adopted nvidia gpus for their instruments whether it is for sensing or imaging or for treatment you know it utilizes gpus either either for compute for graphics for ai or in most of the cases like all three so would like to walk you through a quick journey or nvidia's journey in the field of healthcare so the very first technologies we implemented was foreign was an algorithm called iterative reconstruction so this is a cuda based algorithm so which enabled low dose ct which means that the the ct dosage was reduced to almost 80 percent you know which meant like uh the 3d images can now be reconstructed with 80 less time but then more important was the x-ray dosage reduced to almost 80 percent which means eighty percent less exposure to x-rays for the patients which meant which meant that now if required ct can also be used on children because it is perfectly safe because of the extreme low dosage it was a huge thing you know and uh taking the same kuda technology we entered into the world of ai and today the same cuda technology and nvidia gpus are like accelerating almost every ai framework available you know by making by making uh by making possible ai assisted medicine so so through this it's not just about cuda and about gpus but we have also uh developed this entire framework called clara through which we can make the ai adoption easy in the field of healthcare so that doctors can detect diseases early and also we can make healthcare accessible even in the remote parts of the world so extremely exciting okay so on one hand we have this amazing ai technologies which is which is changing like every day it's getting better every day but on the other hand we have a challenge we have our instruments how do they keep up with this latest technologies how do they how do they have how can they have access to all those latest and the greatest ai algorithms you know it's it it's a huge problem so one of the ways we can address this problem is by making our instruments software defined something similar to the self-driving car so today if we have to add new features to the car we just we just update the software or maybe you know upgrade the computer inside the car without really having to upgrade you know the actual car and uh and and we can easily you know add features of great features so so we so we are talking about the same concept or the same technology that can be applied to instruments so that we can make it software defined so that it is more updatable and more scalable so once we can have once we make our you know instrument software defined we can very seamlessly adopt all the ai workflows so let me talk about a little bit about the software defined instruments what exactly it means so it means decoupling the sensor of the instrument from the computer of the instrument you know so that so that the compute power inside the instrument can be easily upgradeable or updatable without touching the core components of the instruments which are like the sensors and the displays so why is this really important so um let me give you a snapshot on the uh you know on the scenario today so today we have almost three million instruments installed worldwide and every year hundred thousand instruments get upgraded uh or get get sold every year so if you if you see the typical lifespan of an instrument it is like 10 to 15 years so if you do the math if we have to upgrade all those three million instruments it will take us you know at least 30 years which is which is really not feasible so so how do so what do we do about this and so so the answer is to make our instrument software defined and hence we have created this platform which can enable instruments to be software defined where instruments can be connected to the data center and the cloud and the cloud and the data center can have the latest and the greatest hardware technologies all the latest ai algorithms running and instruments can access them remotely uh and and can make themselves uh and can can and can make themselves more updatable and can can keep and can keep them updated you know almost almost with all the latest and the greatest ai technologies so this is where we see the future of instruments going okay now let me talk about what are those three main pillars um you know that nvidia is that that nvidia is helping to accelerate the world of history so first is of course the hardware the gpus are the core and and the backbone uh you know of the healthcare or any smart instrument so we have gpus ranging from the data center uh to the edge where they can deployed uh you know in in the smallest of the instruments or even in something like smart cameras where it can run ai inferencing workloads so but just having great hardware is not enough you know so really have to make the hardware run efficiently and effectively really need to have a world-class software and hence we created this platform called clara which is specifically for the healthcare industry so the sole intent behind clara was to help our developers to uh you know to adopt ai features inside the healthcare like if they want to if if they want to create like real-time endoscopy applications or diagnostic imaging applications using ai um you know they can they can have a starting point they do they do not have to create everything from scratch so we have these tools and resources through which we help developers to uh to integrate ai features in the ai in the healthcare applications so for example we have these pre-trained models um you know uh through which we to which you can start you can start training your your ai models um as and which includes go with 19 models as well so we you do not have to basically train your ai model from scratch then we have uh the ai assisted annotation through which we have made the process of we have automated the process of a process of annotation or data labeling because it is extremely crucial in the ai workflow and especially for the medical imaging because uh because the medical imaging data needs to be labeled by the experts only so here we are bringing the expertise of ai so that we can automate and accelerate this process there are so many other such tools uh available under the umbrella of clara which can help accelerate uh the software development process and then we have the uh we have we have nvidia egx platform through which we can connect instruments to the cloud so that they can be software defined and in that cloud we can have the nvidia clara platform running so this is how this is how we are we have created this clara platform for the to enable the end-to-end application workflow again having great hardware software and great technologies is really not enough uh you know because because our challenges okay we have this great technology and hardware but how do we really take it to our customers how do we make sure that it is integrated in every medical instrument out there how do we make sure that it reaches in the hands of every you know each and every doctor and physician this is where our partners like advantage play such a crucial role you know they help us take our technologies to the end customers you know through their solutions like usm 500 or all at once so these solutions have nvidia quadro gpus inside it and these systems are perfectly capable to run uh you know to run the clara software stack so all i can say is uh this is just the
