We're taking animal science research in a different direction because it's not enough anymore if we're going to solve these complex problems to simply focus on nutrition. That's a component part but there are many many other aspects that influence what these responses might be and really what we're trying to do is go beyond simply putting something in an animal diet and see what happens, but it's really to understand the mechanisms of what causes that improvement in growth or lack thereof. Our approach is we're using different scientific disciplines and different platforms to break apart all these different biological responses that are occurring in the whole animal and then we integrate this information together. By doing that we're discovering why things are happening the way they are so that we can be more strategic in partnering with our industry partners in providing guidance about precision animal nutrition to achieve this goal of feeding the world more sustainably. We've done a series of experiments where we have evaluated how can we implement these local ingredients into the swine diets and this is where we are working closely with the Minnesota research group. I think this collaboration with Minnesota has actually really increased our knowledge in terms of how novelty feed ingredients affect the performance, the physiology the metabolism of the animals, so it has increased our expertise within the area of animal nutrition. The collaborative research with integrated animal systems biology group allowed us to leverage their knowledge and capabilities and together we can connect all the biological events and understand better the underlying mechanisms why animals are growing differently when they use antibiotics and zinc oxide. furthermore, I would like to say this collaborative research strengthens our concept around weaned pigs physiology and their nutrition. Long term our goal is to provide knowledge faster at a mechanistic level around this whole idea of precision animal nutrition with the goal of producing more meat milk and eggs with fewer resources to feed the world more sustainably.
