How to eSign a document: e-signature legitimacy for Memorandum of Understanding in United States

well good morning and good at I'd like to welcome all of you here and thank you for coming to bear witness to this momentous occasion as we take a remarkable set them to a long-lasting a successful collaboration between the royal society of chemistry and the american chemical society we take this step as expressed memorandum of understanding urged on by our shared belief that ensuring sustainability is a critical challenge for the long-term survival and prosper tape of earth and its people and motivated by the conviction that chemistry must play a significant role in providing worldwide solutions is challenged the challenge is indeed broad and wider scope it encompasses energy food water health management and really organizational and societal sustainability and the largest picture we're fortunate to have two organizations that share the vision I'm particularly pleased that we're able to convene virtually for the signing of this memorandum of understanding this is a clear example of our commitment to sustainability to being green and it highlights the fact that positive change is achievable through together of our principles I'm convinced it together we will make a meaningful contribution to solving the challenges of our time I would also like to extend my personal pics today of garner and the other officers of the RSC for their commitment and warm hospitality to ACS and to me personally it has been a highlight of Burma's acs for chair to interact so closely and productively with our colleagues i'd like to express my thanks to everyone who's contributed bringing us to this point and I thrilled by the tremendous opportunity before us and look forward to many years of thriving collaboration thank you thank you very much indeed uni and if you hear echoes of your speech in mind what it shows is the Union unanimity if I could say a purpose and our resolve that we've developed jointly so I'll begin by saying I'm delighted to welcome all of you to this important event the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the american chemical society and the royal society of chemistry this represents a significant advance but both societies and chemistry worldwide our two societies and enjoy the next an excellent relationship for many years and whilst we're competitors in some of our activities we share a mutual respect and very similar aspirations having identified common challenges the RSC is delighted to address these with our colleagues in the ACS publishing activities are vital to both our societies and I'm pleased that senior representatives of the publishing component of our two societies are involved in constructive discussions that include a consideration of how best to address the challenges posed by open access furthermore the ACS and the RSC are both not-for-profit publishers each uses the resources generated by publishing activities to advanced chemistry at home and abroad and jointly we're looking at ways in which we can promote this for mutual benefit the positive roles the chemistry plays in our daily lives are by no means fully appreciated by politicians policymakers and the general public thus both societies recognize the need to develop and improved awareness and appreciation of the nature beauty and significance of chemistry the challenges that we know faced face in the respect of the sustainability of life as we know it on this planet represents a major opportunity for us to raise the profile of the chemical sciences versus the population of this planet continues to increase and all peoples of the planet expect that their standards of life will continue to improve major sprains are placed on the provision of sufficient energy food water minerals and other raw materials science and technology have a central role to play in addressing these challenges they are global in nature and require global solutions therefore collaboration is vital a manifestation of this is the first joint inquiry by the Science and Technology Committees of the US House of Representatives and the UK House of Commons on the regulation of geoengineering both the ACS and the RSC have a global vision and both have a commitment to promote the use of chemistry for the benefit of the peoples of this planet our collaboration in these respects is the subject of this memorandum of understanding and we plan that this will be a hub to which other Chemical Society's worldwide will be linked there are sees contribution will be based on our recently completed roadmap for the chemical sciences chemistry for tomorrow's tomorrow's world this initiative identifies a range of challenges in which chemistry must be involved if we are to sustain human life as we know it on this planet in closing I thank my many good friends the american chemical society notably their presidents rose burstyn and tom lane chair and board of directors jus de belem and a chief executive officer and executive director Madeline Jacobs with whom we work so constructively and effectively to realize our vision I'm my RSC colleagues have enjoyed our meetings on both sides of the Atlantic benefited from their friendship good humor and generous hospitality I look forwarding confidence to the future for both societies and to the exciting possibilities that we can realize together thank you
