I'll share with you my personal experience.May 15th 2011 - As a college student while visiting my relatives along with my dad, I get my Naadi read in a place called Srirangam in Trichy district. The history behind how and why Naadi astrology came into being is quite interesting. I would definitely recommend people to take the time out and read about it from whatever sources are present on the internet2. Having said that, there are people who believe very strongly in what these gentlemen have to say and there are those who debunk it and choose not to believe in them as well3. The inscriptions on the palm leaves are in a form of old Tamil called Grantham. This is said to have been passed on for many generations by the saint Agastya to his disciples and so on. The gentlemen who read from these palm leaves are said to have had 10-15 years of training before they read out the lives/histories of others4. Large enterprise clients love them, their smaller customers love them and their investors love them. Plus, Travis Kalanick doesn't take no for an answer. The IPO market has been bad for the past 18-24 months, so I don't see any reason for them to rush there. They have more than enough private funding, and should they need more, they will have no problem raising it.Can go either way:SnapchatSnapchat is a great product, if you're under 20. If you're over 20, and not named Gary Vaynerchuk, you're probably still trying to figure out how to best utilize snapchat. Evan Spiegel has built an excellent platform. But the question is, how much are advertisers willing to pay for space on a  platform where everything disappears. It's a unique idea that the younger generation has embraced, however, they have yet to prove their revenue model. And at the end of the day, that's the most important thing. Another thing about Snapchat is that they're beyond the point of acquisition. Facebook made them an offer about two years ago, but with their new $10-20 billion valuation, the likelihood of an acquisition is far lower. If I had to place a bet, I'd definitely say they'll succeed, but the road ahead won't be easy. I’m a fresher, therefore the salary is not high yet but I don’t wear myself out, nor work until midnight.It will sound silly but it really depends on the company. If you look at companies such as DeNA, CyberAgent or Line, there is no chronic shortage of personnel there. On the contrary, despite being ventures (actually, mega-ventures) a lot of freshers apply there every year.During job hunting, I came across a lot of different company. Some where amazing, other where so black the guy in charge of the presentation almost burst into tears…How to tell appart black companies?Turnover in black businesses is abnormally high. If in the first three years, 30% of freshers leave the company, it is suspicious. The main reasons are:Overtimes are not paidTough working conditionsSalary is comparatively low (and doesn’t increase) Regarding salary, sometimes it is lower than expected but you should also check welfares. In my case, the salary is a little bit lower than average but I have apartment rental allowance, full subway allowance, self-investment allowance (they pay for diplomas and the books/courses I need to pass them), complete insurance and so forth.Fast employment process. Employment process for freshers is slow in Japan. There are several interviews and tests. If it seems abnormally short, that could be a red flag. However it is not necessarily the case. Some company, specially young one, doesn’t have time and ressources to conduct eight interviews like in bigger companies.The interviewer's physical condition. Like I said, if the interviewer or employees seem really tired and/or sad, this doesn’t look good. It could be a bad cold or hay fever but generally you can tell appart. Use your guts.Office is dirty. During the company’s presentation or the interviews, look for signs of dirty office like dust. Ask to use the toilets. Toilets in Japan are almost always immaculate. If it smells bad, it doesn’t smell good for you either.Death from overwork and suicide. Big red flag. I know suicide rate is high in Japan (especially among men) and it could be not-work related but most case it is. Don’t waste your time and knowledge to help this kind of murderers.No follow-up after the job offer. I received a job offer by mail from a company that never ever contacted me afterward. I sent a hand-written refusal letter and still never heard a single word from them. It means you are just a number, they don’t care. In comparison, another company which gave me a job offer invited me and the other prospective employees for a official introduction and lunch with the employees. Even after I sent the refusal letter, they responded with a kind email and we are still on good terms as of today. My actual employee sent me a first email to avouch the job offer and a reminder email to know whether I made my decision to join in or not. You are a person, they do care about you and really want you to join in.One or more criteria above could be a red flag but this is not necessarily the case. Use common sense and, last things, rely on other people experiences. Search it up! If there are suspicions of unethical practices in a company, it sure is on Internet. However if you are not enrolling in a Japanese university right now, it won’t matter but keep it in mind and don’t be astonished if most people you meet are students.Now about job hunting schedule can go up to one year and half but it is mainly for information gathering and you can find a job way faster. I gather information in my home country for several months (maybe 3, I’m not sure) and did find a job in 5 months.In addition, the job hunting schedule varies by company. Ventures tend to start earlier than small, middle and big companies. But that is not necessarily the case.  You need to gather informations in a proactive manner. In my opinion, it’s even harder than job hunting itself. Which one is better? Where should I go? The salary is better here but this looks cool? Welcome in first world problem. Be wise! Ask friends, relatives, people you trust, learn about the companies, make a pros and cons list… Then flip a coin. Once in the air, you will know where you want to go.The declaration is not legally binding therefore you can continue your job hunting.I don’t like to say it, but if the deadline is near and you are not totally sure yet, sign it and send it back anyway. Briefly, you will need a two buttons black suit with a not-flashy red, blue or green necktie and white shirt (as a suit lover, that was the hardest part for me haha). If you don’t know what 尊敬語、謙譲語、丁寧語 stands for or don’t know how to use it, grab a book and train as soon as possible. You will also need to learn telephone etiquette, e-mail etiquette, writing etiquette, bowing etiquette, how to enter an examination room, how to seat etc.Seems tough? Security Caesar cipher - Implement a Caesar cipher, both encoding and decoding. The key is an integer from 1 to 25. This cipher rotates the letters of the alphabet (A to Z). The encoding replaces each letter with the 1st to 25th next letter in the alphabet (wrapping Z to A). So key 2 encrypts "HI" to "JK", but key 20 encrypts "HI" to "BC". This simple "monoalphabetic substitution cipher" provides almost no security, because an attacker who has the encoded message can either use frequency analysis to guess the key, or just try all 25 keys.
