As someone who writes mostly technology-related answers, I see the following question so much it makes me want to tear my hair out:“Can iCloud Activation Lock be Bypassed?”For those who don’t know, Apple devices that have an iCloud account active on them with Find My iPhone enabled will lock the device to that Apple ID even if it is restored to factory defaults. This is designed to prevent thievery, since stolen devices (typically iPhones) are useless without the Apple ID password they are locked with to unlock it. It is incredibly common for people to sell devices without removing the lock beforehand (likely because they don’t know it exists, or how to remove it) or because it is stolen. Either way, the lock cannot be bypassed without that password… but that doesn’t stop everyone and their mother from asking if it can be done as if the rules somehow don’t apply to them.Instead of viewing the answers on an existing question, or even asking new people to answer that existing question, they make a new one. Every. Single. Time. Quora is absolutely flooded with these questions, and I get A2A requests for them more than anything else.

Common Scams in India:Scene 1: Aadhar mobile number update:Went to a private Aadhar e-seva kendra, filled form and was ready to submit. Assumed it’s going to be nominal charges for same. Lady said 300rs. I said bye bye.Went to e-seva kendra. This time all done. Lady asked for 50rs. I said I know its 25rs.She said “Sir we have to pay rent as well.”I said “As you are asking very less compared to others I will pay 50rs.”Felt bad about it later. Complained to UIDAI via twitter. Got reply that they will register an official complain and take necessary action.In addition to this its very common that these e-seva center charge anything between 100–300rs for new Aadhar registration(should be completely free) or update(nominal charge of 25rs). Saw it happening in one instance, raised my voice but no one supported. Seems everyone else was just wanted to get their work done and I was creating a nuisance.Scene 2: Mobile number portability:Went to Idea store. With commanding voice, I said “I am here for MNP”, as I was giving them a new customer. Got reply from lady “minimum recharge of 475rs will be needed for MNP”. I said “MNP charge is 19rs, what recharge I do after that is my choice”. But this lead to nothing. Left the store.Visited a local idea retailer. Inquired about MNP and he said 178rs minimum recharge. Didn’t want to argue again. Paid the money and left for home. Felt bad again, later complained to idea_cellular and TRAI via twitter. Still to receive a response.Even for mobile and Aadhar linking some retailers charge money, its supposed to be completely free.Scene 3: Flash Back - Last monthHad a bad mood and my train was about to leave. Thought some water could help. Went to stall and asked for two water bottles. Vendor asked for 40rs(20rs per bottle, MRP was 15rs). I became furious and scolded him left and right. Got my money back (10rs). Complained to local DRM via twitter. Got response that action will be taken and immediate fine of 500rs is charged to vendor.You see what I am trying to say, here in our country(not only our country) people always find a way to dig out money or more money by this means or another, many are aware of it but many just ignore it. I know I can’t be idealistic all the time but it disturbs me seeing people’s common lust for money around me.Call it a scam or whatever, but it’s part of our life, it’s more of a mindset and reflection of our ideologies.We might accept it, ignore it or fight against it.Sometimes it seems like endless cycle, because “We the people” always find innovative ways to scam each other.Take Care.PS. KFC - KFC people will not miss any opportunity to scam people. I had faced many instances previously and another one happened yesterday.Charged me extra without notifying me and refused to reverse the charges.I went to KFC in HSR layout. Wanted to eat a simple potato crisper. Ordered that and was TOLD that it is ₹45. Gave a 500 ₹ note. Cashier took 5–10 mins and delayed my order and then returned me ₹ 452 (not 455) saying that he has ₹10 note and not ₹5. I let it go because it was a small amount. Went to the table. While eating my food I noticed on screen display that same burger was ₹40 and not ₹45. I also noticed that these people had not given me the bill. Went back to the counter and asked for the bill. Response -”Sir, we threw away the bill. We cannot give it because it is in dustbin somewhere.” I thought something is fishy and still insisted. If not original give me duplicate bill. Lo and behold - 5 mins later the original crumpled bill was present on the counter. And what I noticed is that I have been charged ₹5 extra. Here is the picture.I asked why the 5 extra and they said it is for some hope foundation.Me: That's ok but why is it charged without asking me.KFC:Sir, this is for hope foundation.Me: but WHY is it charged without asking me??KFC: ?????????Me: please reverse the charges. I want my money back. (I was angry because they had done it without my permission)KFC: Sir we cannot do that since bill has already been generated. You should have told us at time of billing that you should not be charged for hope foundation.Me: but you did not inform me that you are charging me extra for this. You did not even give me the bill.By then manager came.Manager: sir it is your fault, you should have raised issue at time bill was generated.After a lot of arguments they said sorry but then I looked at other bills crumpled and lying nearby. All had the same included. I tried to take a picture of them also but manager said since those are not my bills hence I cannot photograph them. At least here he was correct.I returned unsatisfied.Another instance - KFC charged me ₹ 60 for an ice-cream with MRP (maximum retail price) of ₹40. Photos were uploaded on Twitter and again the same sorry response from KFC.Beware people.Another point-one customer was not happy with his chicken since it was not hot at the bottom of his tub. He had eaten the top pieces. KFC person took the chicken piece from his half eaten tub and kept it BACK WITH THE OTHERS and gave him fresh ones. If this guy was diseased I am pretty sure some other people would be sick after eating the KFC soiled food.

I was at the lowest point in my life.Eight months prior to this photo, I’d dropped out of college with less than $200 to my name and less than $500/month in recurring online income (from copy writing and email marketing if you’re wondering) and set out to travel across South America.When I left for my expedition, I was a paragon of clean living.I didn’t drink. I didn’t smoke. I’d never done drugs. I’d only had sex once.But that was all about to change.On the day that picture was taken, I was fucked up. Fucked beyond all recognition.I was addicted to cocaine.So much so that later that day, I walked through the ghettos of Nicaragua by myself at 3 in the morning looking for someone to sell me blow.Later that week, the cops found me doing a bump on the beach, put me in handcuffs, and told me I was going to prison.I got lucky.I bribed my way out of the arrest—but it took every last dollar from my bank account to do it.And what did I do the second I got released? I went to find more coke.In that picture, I was $1,500 in debt to a friend—for cocaine.Oh, I was also a full blooded alcoholic.Coke made it hard to get drunk and so 20 drinks a day was a “light” one for me.I rarely, if ever, spent more than 24 hours sober.And on the rare days where I was too hungover to drink more alcohol or too “gak’d” over to do more blow? I continued the chemical sedation with my two pack a day cigarette habit.Then comes the sex.I’d grown up being the nerdy kid who struggled to talk to women. I’d never had a proper girlfriend.And now, at 19, I found women taking an interest in me (or, in some cases, the drugs I could get them).My life revolved around my next lay.I treated women like obstacles to be conquered, like things instead of human beings.In a given week, I would typically have 3–4 new partners. Each of whom was promptly dropped and ignored the second I came.I didn’t talk with my family. I’d shut out my closest friends.And every day, the jaws of my various addictions clamped tighter and tighter around my neck.Make no mistake. My misery was my own fault. I was a jackass and I subjected myself to the pain of addiction.I won’t pretend to understand some of the very real traumas experienced by other people who have answered this question or the even more challenging (not to mention longer lasting) addictions shared by many people here. And my heart goes out to them.But I can’t write for others. I can only write from what I have: my own experience.The fact that I made it out of my year long bender unscathed amazes me.I should be dead right now. Face down in a South American ditch covered in piss and vomit, serving as a lesson to all other gringos.But I’m not.I’m here. Today. Writing this response.The events that helped me get sober are a tale for another day.But suffice it to say that, when I returned home, my world was flipped upside down and I was given a second chance.Today, I’m clean.Here’s a picture I took with my fiancée, best friend, and his fiancée.I haven’t touched coke in years. My drinking is relegated to a glass or two of wine with my family or the occasional beer with a friend. The only “drugs” I consume on a regular basis are coffee and cannabis.I’m engaged to the woman of my dreams—a woman who saved my life and gave me someone to care for other than myself.I have a fulfilling career doing work that matters.And the best part? I actually like the man I see looking back at me in the mirror.Addiction has a funny way of warping and distorting your view of self.You no longer see yourself for who you truly are.You just see a junkie looking for his next fix.But today, the man I see is so far removed from that year I sometimes wonder if it really happened.But it did.I put myself through hell.And the people in my life who loved me and cared for me pulled me out.I’m proud of who I am today and the life that I lead.And I’m grateful for the lessons that year taught me.Because I wouldn’t be who I am without them.
