How does signup/registration form length impact conversion?
Several studies have shown that the length of a signup form does definitely have an impact on a company’s conversion rate. So, what is more effective, a short form or a longer form? In a nutshell, the shorter form.If you present a sign-up/registration form on your website, you need to think carefully as to how many fields (and which ones) you want to display. Not many people love filling in forms as it is. Thus, don’t ask for those details that you don’t really need (e.g. your address, if you don’t ship anything to them). Why? Because it has shown that the longer your sign-up form is, and thus, the more information you ask from your visitors, the lower your conversion rates will be. Very often, all you need is just an email address (and a name). The concept of “less is more” (few fields à more conversions) can be considered as valid. This is one example that proves it: the company ‘Imagescape’ conducted a study which showed that a contact form with 11 fields was replaced with a form of 4 fields and these were the results:→ 160 % increase in forms submitted→ 120 % increase in conversion→ Quality of submissions remained the sameA study conducted by HubSpot in which 40,000 landing pages have been analysed, also reveals some interesting figures. You will notice that there the conversion rate changes when there is a higher number of fields on a landing page.Source: https://blog.hubspot.com/blog/ta...Another interesting case study at Expedia showed that removing the ‘Company’ field in their booking form can lead to an increase in conversions, to be precise a $12 million profit.Source: https://unbounce.com/conversion-...Many times, it has shown that the best signup forms are the ones that are short and don’t take much time for website visitors to fill in. Another example is the one from Barack Obama. The figures below highlight again the fact that having few fields in your signup form are more effective.Source: https://unbounce.com/conversion-...If you are thinking of presenting a drop down selection in your form with more fields, then think twice, because also that seems to be less effective for your conversion rates. So, what are the fields that seem to be irrelevant and less effective? Here some insights:However, it’s also interesting to note that the number of fields you choose to present in a form also depend on the reputation of a company. A trusted and well-known company might find it easier to get more of the required information than e.g. an unknown start-up company. When the New York Times launched their online presence some time ago their subscription form used to be 18 pages long! But times have changed. If you want to find out what really works best for your own website, I would suggest you carry out an a/b/c test which allows you to compare all your different versions with each other. Choose one with the absolute minimum, one middle-sized and one longer form version and then analyse which one shows the best impact on your post-click marketing. However, if you want to save time, money and hassle, you can also check out Leadformly. This company creates pre-optimised form templates that incorporate 58+ best practices and boost form conversions based on insights from years of A/B testing and studying forms. Different types of companies have so far benefited from their customized and interactive signup/registration forms which very often led to an increase of their conversion rates of up to 300 %.Generating leads and making your mailing list grow is important for your marketing efforts. Think therefore carefully what you really want to ask your prospects. If every additional (and irrelevant) field you include in your form means losing a potential lead, you need to set the right priorities. Keep in mind that your goal is to generate a lead, all other information can also be gathered at a later stage. If you make it easy, quick and motivating for your visitors to fill in your form, your conversion rate will improve. Your motto should be “ask for less and provide more value in return”.

When was a time you realized a kid’s parents weren’t as sane as they appeared to be?
My son is very shy and he was even more so when he was younger. I had to transfer him to a new (catholic) school when he was starting 3rd grade and I was very surprised when he came home and asked if his new friend could come over about a week after starting school. I was overjoyed that he had made friends so quickly and said yes, thinking I’d meet the kid’s parent the next day at drop off and schedule a play date. The next day I met the kid in question when he ran up to me and said hello. This kid was the exact opposite of my son in regards to personality. He was very extroverted and kind of loud and rambunctious and quite honestly overweight (you’ll understand why I mention it later) he grabs me by the hand and pulls me to his mom and says “mom, I’m going to (my son’s name)’s house and this is his mom” the mom says hi and tells me her name. We talk a bit and I tell her more or less where we live and we exchange phone numbers but we never set up a date. She seemed totally normal. Later that same day I get a text saying she was dropping the kids off and she needed my exact address. First of all, what?! How many kids was she bringing and secondly, WHAT?! Who told her we were doing this today? I decided to let it slide because I was actually off from work already and she probably misunderstood my giving her my phone number and approximate location as an invitation. She shows up a few minutes later with her 3 kids! A 12 year old, the 8 year old, who is in my child’s class and a 5 year old girl. She lets them out of the van, yells hello to me from the drivers seat and says she’ll pick them up in a few hours and takes off- doesn’t even wait for a reply from me!The kids are in the house and the 8 year old says that they are hungry so I told them what we had, rice, veggies and chicken. I had to make it because we were un-prepared for their visit but I gave them a snack while they waited for the food to be ready. They all eat and say they are still hungry so I order them a large pizza. They devour it. I was saving my son and I a slice each since we weren’t hungry because we had just eaten but I had to give it to them because they kept saying they were hungry. They go play but the 12 year old doesn’t want to play with them, understandable since he’s in 7th or 8th grade and he’s watching TV. The little girl kept wandering around my house opening drawers and closets and trying to go outside, and my son’s friend was very excitable and kept screaming when he won or lost at their game. Each one of them came up to me and asked for more snacks while they were doing the before mentioned activity. It was like wrangling drunk cats! The mom picks them up like at 7 PM so I was making dinner already when she shows up and I call her inside. I give the kids their dinner and she’s talking to me while they eat and I’m telling her that I had to help the kids with their homework because the books don’t have a very clear explanation and that triggers her to explain to me that she hated the reading books they assigned this year because they were trying to teach our kids to be “homosexuals” -What?! She continues by telling me that she confiscated and is protesting a book assigned to her daughter (the 5 year old) about the different kinds of families there are. Apparently there is one picture of a gay couple with an adopted black child in the book. Then she proceeds to quote bible verses at me. I told her I have no problem with gay people having children as long as they are good parents. She gets offended and tells me that only a mother and a father can be good parents so I tell her I’m willing to bet that they wouldn’t leave their 3 kids in a strangers house without feeding them!My son is now in the 8th grade and still friends with that kid but his mom has never gone out of her way to speak to me again and never let her kids come over.

What are the signs a narcissist knows you know their game and is this why finally they ignore you?
These are some of the signs from experience:When you go “no contact”, as in absolutely not communicating with them, no matter how hard they try. When you stop responding to “gaslighting”, and they can’t control your mind, feelings, or thoughts. When you have moved on to a life that excludes them. When you feel indifference toward them, and they know you no longer want or need them. When you start healing from the abuse and you know the real person under the mask. When they see that you love yourself and you gain your self-esteem and worth back. When they realize you no longer can offer them “supply”, and that you are not willing to fill the voids in their life. When they see that you are not falling for the “love bombing.”When they see that they can’t hurt you with words and using other people to manipulate you. When they themselves feel like you “abandoned” them.

How is it possible that people can recite sentences they have read in books just by memory? How can I learn to do the same?
Madeline Moore, a good friend, published her first book a few years ago.To celebrate her spectacular achievement I hosted her at one of her favorite restaurants in Berkeley, Cafe Venezia. You can take a look at the photo and get an idea of why Madeline loved this restaurant so much. You can see a line of laundry pinned to a rope clothesline with wooden pins. Dresses, bras, panties, man’s shirts and pants, are “hanging to dry” in the air from one wall to another. There is an Italian water fountain bubbling with clear water in the middle of the dining room that looks as if it was set in Venice, Italy. The decor and ambience of this restaurant drew many customers that are artists, writers, researchers at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, and academics from UC Berkeley. Venezia’s customers were people who appreciate beauty and fine food at shockingly reasonable prices. To use the words “cheap prices” would be accurate but would not fit the aura, or the tone and tenor of Cafe Venezia.Midway through the perfectly prepared garlic gamberi (prawns), Madeline brought up a character in her book.I said, “Oh, yes! On page 32 you described..” and recited a short paragraph of five sentences word-for-word that described that character.Madeline was stunned that I not only knew the page number, I could also recite a complete paragraph! She signNowed into her handbag and pulled out a copy of her book, flipped through the pages until she came to page 32, and read that specific paragraph aloud. This true story is being shared with you to let you know that you already have the ability to recite sentences you have read in books by memory.“Huh?” you say.I can prove it to you.If I asked you to describe what made the interior of Cafe Venezia memorable, you would be able to recite something like this, There is laundry pinned to a rope clothesline with wooden pins - dresses, bras, panties, men’s shirts and pants are hanging to dry. There is also a water fountain in the middle of the room.See how much you remembered? A lot!If I asked you to describe Venezia’s customers, you would be able to give even more details.See?Here comes a secret tip:If you want to be able to recite a paragraph of lines word by word written in a book, or a poem, do what people who have that skill do.FirstPeople who are able to recite sentences they have read in books by memory are able to do that because those sentences captivated their attention through the beauty in the words - how the words sound, the rhythm, or the words contain meaning that inspires insight, or they present unique details, or the sentences are structured to blend all that have been just mentioned.ThenWe take our attention further by reading and rereading and rereading those lines over and over again to savor the beauty in the words, or to feel the inspiration of the words wash through us.We even read the words aloud to thrill to the beauty in how the sentence is structured.Through pure indulgence, by savoring beauty, we joyfully memorize the lines. It is easy.Give in to great pleasure. You can do the same.(Google images)

What's the best way to explain rules for multiplying negative numbers to children?
Receiving 4 gifts of 5 dollars gives you a result of 4×5=+20 dollars. This means you benefit by 20 dollars."Receiving" −4 gifts of 5 dollars means giving four gifts of 5 dollars. This results in a loss to you of 20 dollars, so [math](-4) \times 5 = -20[/math]Receiving 4 "gifts" of [math]-5[/math] dollars means someone is *making you pay them* 5 dollars, and doing it four times. That gives you a result of [math]4 \times (-5) = -20[/math]dollars."Receiving" [math]-4[/math] "gifts" of [math]-5[/math] dollars again means giving someone four of these (undesirable) gifts. Thus you are charging someone 5 dollars, and doing it four times. The result is of course good for you (if you don't care about karma), since you benefit by 20 dollars. So [math](-4) \times (-5) = 20[/math]. Here is a second approach. [math]4 \times (-5)[/math] is obtained by adding four copies of[math]-5[/math]:[math]4 \times (-5) = (-5) + (-5) + (-5) + (-5) = -20.[/math]So it is natural that [math]4 \times (-5)[/math] should be -20, by the "repeated addition" understanding of multiplication that you mentioned. Of course, we can't add "-4 copies" of -5 together, but pay attention to the pattern in the following list.[math]4 \times (-5) = -20[/math][math]3 \times (-5) = -15[/math][math]2 \times (-5) = -10[/math][math]1 \times (-5) = -5[/math][math]0 \times (-5) = 0[/math]You will surely agree that if we are to multiply negative numbers at all, then the pattern should continue this way:[math](-1) \times (-5) = 5[/math][math](-2) \times (-5) = 10[/math][math](-3) \times (-5) = 15[/math]etc.

What are some good one-minute feel-good short stories?
"Tell me the answer " ---- shouted the angry maths Prof at a timid , messed up naive engineering fresherMost of days, the lady prof finds this scared boy sitting at back and throws him out of class for being "not attentive"Miles away his parent in village hoped that their boy is doing well at school. His father would go on cycle to field rather than taking bus. His mother would walk to market rather than taking rickshaw to save money for feesDuring initial days, he would try to remain stern face , since meaning of being man in downtown is not to weep.Soon he became accustomed to it. Since it is typical Indian college , he heard or sits in fear of hearing those rants for 75% of semester days to get that attendance. Every day he goes back home and count how many more classes he has to attend. To be true, fear of hearing those humiliations is much worse than actually listening to humiliation as he sits tight anticipating every second about what is going to happen. A single glance is enough to make his throat dry.Every night, his mother would ask on phone - How is he? ( Exact words- " Babu kaisa hai tu)And He would say - I am fine, you take care of yourself ("Theek hu Maa, tum thek se rehna")At end of semester, Teacher came to boy and said - I could not believe you scored 89/100 in end semester. Boy in fear asked teacher to repeat, Teacher said loudly in irritated voice- How could you score so high in end semester exams?Boy - Mam I scored highest in midterm too , when you have rechecked my sheet to show class that I might have cheated or you might be made mistake in calculation Teacher in louder and angered mode - But you never understood anything in class and could not answer any questionBoy - Mam, I am partially deaf. And for those who cannot study from teachers, they have books. He gathered some courage and told - If anyone cannot answer that does not mean he does not know the answer. He might be unable to hear itBoy passed from college, went to some awesome schools afterwards, did a satisfying cool high tech job and has wonderful friends. He also bought a workable ear machine initially from his masters scholarship and later on bought imported hearing aid with his first salary. He now believes , world is very nice place , he just need to be at right place and among right peopleWell, that boy is meEdit 1: I don't hold any grudges against that teacher. I strongly believe two ideas are must to remain happy :1.Forgiveness2.AcceptanceActually from that incident, I learnt that I am responsible for all that humiliation by being introvert and not telling her. From then on wards, I started telling professors about my problem. And Life has become much better afterwards. I owe her in sense that she made me realize few things about myself which paved path for happy life.Edit 2: I was asked how I can hear on phone? I can hear on phone but not in class since i am partially deaf and phone is very close to ear while talking.Think of hearing loss as short nearsightedness, if you wear glasses that does not mean you are blind, you cannot see the board but can see person next to you.The only difference is glasses can come at Rs 200 but a modest hearing aid comes at least Rs 20,000 and good one at Rs 1Lakh. Bad hearing aid further destroys ear. I face issues when people talk from distance especially in closed room. It is simple friss law of physics where signal power is inversely proportional to square of distance. It is just that my reception sensitivity is low.Edit 3: Next part of story is written in my another answer at Arpit Singh's answer to What is a split-second decision you made that changed your life?

What is marketing in plain English?
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few coins in the hat.A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.”What he had written was: “Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.”That is what marketing is. ;)Thank you all for the first 50 Upvotes!!
