What are your must-have plugins with a new WordPress site?
Here is what I use almost in every WordPress sites.Tawk.to Live Chat -The best chat system. It’s free. It has iOS and Android app. So you can reply to your customers on the go.When you’re not online it turns into a beautiful contact form. However if you have programming knowledge I will advise not to use the plugin. You can just paste the code from when you get from their site Tawk.to Website while registering just like adding Google Analytics.Another cool factors are - You can see what the customer is typing before he sends the messages, in which page the customer is visiting and moving. Also you can keep different pre-recorded messages to different page. In short, increasing customer acquisition dramatically. You can use same account for multiple websites and reply from same place !!Sumo Me -This plugin has mind blowing features but I like only two of it’s features.Heat Maps help you see where people are clicking (or not) on your website.I use heat map consistently to make data driven decision. This is the heat map of my website Amit Ghosh. So what is my decision here - Most people are clicking on “Investors”; there is only two posts there. No use. I should redirect it to a niche blog of mine of finance segment. It will decrease synthetic bounce rate.Social share on the side. Mobile view of social share is more awesome!Discover - If you are running a site with content having broad niche like Strange Unexplained Mysteries then you can exchange traffic with other Sumo Me users. It works like this - other people’s posts are listing in the more related sites or sidebar. When someone clicks on that i.e you drive the traffic to them, you get credits. Your site will be listed on their sites (read, you can spend the credits) till your credits last. It works and gives me nice visits. It is a very cool feature that most people aren’t aware of.Jetpack -I hate Jetpack. It overlaods the site with tons of features. Most of them are nonsense. I bet you don’t write mathematical formula in LATEX in your site. So why activate bunch of codes! Here is what I like of JetPack. Head to Jetpack> Settings and kill the rest of the options.Comments - It’s superior to monitor comments as you can use WordPress iOS or android app to moderate.Enhanced Distribution - Automatically take the great published content from your blog or website and share it instantly with third party services like search engines, increasing your signNow and traffic. Increases traffic. signNowly.Gravatar Hovercards - Hovercards enhance plain Gravatar images with information about a person. If the commenter has a hovercard associated with their gravatar, mouse over their image and the hovercard will appear. Cool feature.JSON API - Allows you to authorize applications and services to securely connect to your blogManage - The best part! allows you to update your self-hosted WordPress sites along with any WordPress sites you have, all in one simple dashboard. But I use Main WP.Notifications, Protect, Spelling and GrammarTiled Galleries - It’s elegant if you use galleries. You can see example here The Great Escape - Amit GhoshPublicize - Important! It allows you to connect your blog to popular social networking sites and automatically share new posts with your friends.Yoast SEO -The absolute beast! Now you can optimize each posts for multiple keywords yourself without paying anyone hefty money. The above screenshot is backend of this post. Most people is unaware of this feature that you can connect the site with social accounts from Yoast SEO options which is a must for SEO.Yoast has an option to connect and verify with the different Webmaster Tools,The sitemaps. Disable Jetpack’s sitemap and use sitemap generated by Yoast SEO. Don’t use both, or you’re screwed as Google can’t understand the site properly in that case.FormCraft -The best alternative to Contact Form 7 and best for contact forms. Contact Form 7 looks shitty and hard to move tIt looks absolute bliss in my site. Far better than contact form 7. It stores all the data, submitted form in the backend and has dropdown feature and styling options - easy like none other.WordFence -Firewall, malware scan, blocking, live traffic, login security & more. The must plugin for WordPress security.Don’t use the premium version of it. No need.Properly config the settings as shown here. Apart from "Scan for out of date plugins, themes and WordPress versions" everything should be checked. They generally keep these options unchecked which is very very vital“Scan theme files against repository versions for changes” and “Scan plugin files against repository versions for changes”.BackupBuddy -The best backup solution. It’s a premium plugin. If you want to do just backup then Duplicator works just fine. But with backupbuddy you can automate the backups where backups will be moved straight to your remote destinations like dropbox, google drive. You can schedule the backup and it works like a charm!…I write at amitghosh.net. All my thoughts are carefully crafted there :)

How do I get 50,000 downloads for my mobile app?
Let me tell you what I did to get 100,000 downloads for my first app without any marketing budget, within 99 days.It was my first app and since I was just a student ,that means I didn't had any money to advertise. However I managed 150$.1. The selling point for my app was the UI/UX. And for me the presentation was everything. I knew I was short on budget, and I wanted to convert every click into a download (i mean there is a high probability that if a person clicks on the link,he may not download it because of poor screenshots)So good, professional looking screenshots were Page on important.so for that I needed a photoshop professional(although I designed the app myself,I wasn't very good at photoshop) so I hired a guy from freelancing websites.I paid the guy 50$ for 5 screenshotsgood iconI then hired a guy for the video. Now if you don't know how most of the videos are made, you may end up paying 150-400$there are websites from where you can buy templates for virtually everything. So we purchased a 25$ template, hired a guy for 40$ to do the changes to it.So the whole video was done for 65$2 I got fake facebook likes(40,000 likes for 40$ people are real but they don't come to know when they liked the page, there are scripts for fake facebook likes) as we thought it can be used as an audience, but turns out it was a waste,as facebook has changed it algorithms, and a post's visibility only increases if it gets enough momentum(i.e comments and likes). And it is quite obvious that no one would be interested in a post from a page which they never liked themselves. The post never signNowed 40,000 people which was our intended target. 3. I got the description done, ourselves. There are websites for SEO (or ASO ,app search optimization)like sensor tower which can be used for figuring out which keyword to use.4. Added 1000+ friends on facebook from my college before the launch5. I launched the app.6. I gave credit to those people on how they were so supportive and accepted our random friend requests and then sneaked in the download link with very pretty images.People like to take credits for no reason ,just like they want to feel good and superior and want to be a part of something, without any reason,I just exploited it.7. The early downloads and reviews were quite important8. They reviewed and downloaded.About 200-300 of them.9. Just after I launched it,I changed my schedule and started sleeping 9 hrs in 2 days .i.e 4.5 hrs a day, with 3 hrs of sleeping shifts. i searched for lists of websites which review android apps.Sent them a copy pasted message and often making intentional mistakes while typing the subject like "Android 'ApP' Review",to get their attention as you are not the only one sending them emails. we tried to make it look as professional as we could. But tried to keep the message friendly.I posted them 100 each day.10. Spamming on facebook groups. The post here doesn't have to be professional and the screenshots should not look professional,if they are ,(these screenshots were differnt from the ones one the app page) you will give an impression that your app comes from a company and it won't appear as a personal request but like an advertisement which you don't want.I posted them 100 each day11. Sending messages to youtubers to review it and then posting on their new videos ,asking people to try it and asking the channel owner to review it.I posted them 100 each day or maybe more.12. Posting on reddit, forums, qoura etc.13. reviews from feverr.14. backlinks.15. update regularly. We did this for 20 days. The rest of the downloads were all organic(means they were due to people searching for a music player etc, rather than clicking somewhere)13. Now the app is getting 2000+ downloads per day on average (for the last 20 days). All of them are organic. As of now,(i.e 14th october, the app stands at 95,000 downloadsCurrenlty when you search for a "music player" our app ranks at the number 20.And it is the only app within the top 20 with a range of 50,000-100,000 range. All other apps have atleast 1/2 million downloads. With the maximum at 500 million.P.S if you want to have a look at the app, send me a message or write a comment :)

How can we earn through websites?
Ok, so here is a step-by-step formula on how you can start earning through your website:Pay attention & at the end, you will be on your way to be making thousands each month. In the picture: This is me from a few months ago where I taught a 2-day workshop on how to use your website to generate leads and earn a passive income.Step 1 — Come up with a topicAsk yourself this: “What am I passionate about?”This could anything like food, technology, sports, makeup, fashion, shoes, movies, books, etc.Once you find a topic (and please take the time to find something you are super passionate about), write it down and save it!Step 2 — Get a domain nameYou need to find a good domain name that goes along with your topic and is catchy! For example, if you want to talk about sports then your domain name can be something like sporttalks.com (that is already taken but you can see how catchy it really is). Please, do not get a free domain name. You are trying to earn money which means people have to give you their money. This requires a brand and a good reputation which will not be built with a free domain name. You can get a domain name at GoDaddy for $0.99.Step 3 — Get Website HostingYou can do a quick Google search and find free hosting.Or you can spend about $5 per month and get hosting from a company called HostMyte. Why Should You Pay For Hosting?A few things you will get with paid hosting compared to free hosting:Better securityFaster loading time for your websiteBigger spaceEasier to scale up your business and websiteStep 4 — Install WordPressWordPress is a free powerful tool that will make the creating of your website really easy. Not only that but it will make blogging on your website very doable. (more about this later)Go to YouTube and search “ Learn WordPress”You will find super easy instructions on how to install it.Now, you need a THEME/Skin for your Blog. Go here Theme Directory - Free WordPress ThemesTo install the theme, Go to Youtube and search “ how to install WordPress themes. Also, hosting companies like HostMyte, give you a one-click install to install WordPress on there.Step 5 — BloggingContent is key!You need to live by that phrase. On your website, you need to start writing articles (about 40–50 per day). I know this sounds crazy but again since you picked a topic you are passionate about, this shouldn’t be too hard. For example, if you picked sports, you can write about the games that happened this week. Or your feelings about the coach’s or player’s performances. It’s an endless supply of things to talk about. (that’s like 3 topics to write about right there)These articles don’t have to be anything fancy, quick 300+ words that flow together and is easy to read. (pretty much 5th grade level of writing)If you have some money to spend, you can hire people in India, China, or even the Philippines to write articles for you. They can write 20–30 article or more per day for about $1–2 per article. Why Blogging Is Important? Two things will happen when you start blogging: your SEO rank (Google Ranks) will go up and more people will find and come to your website!Step 6: Make MoneyFinally, after all that hard work you have put in, it’s time to make money.Note: You have only spent about $5 (or in some cases less than $1)There are a few things you need to do to make money this way:Capture leads on your website:You need some type of form on your website that people can fill out to give you their name and email address.Use a service like MailChimp or ContastContact to send these people emails about new articles, topics, news, etc. that has to do with your website.Sell the products to these leads:Once you have sent a few emails out to these people, you have gained their trust. Now you can start selling them products. What to sell:You can have Google Adsense on your website. This is Google placing ads on your website. Everytime someone clicks on the ad you will make a $0.25–5.Amazon Affiliate Program, you can sign up to sell items from Amazon from your website. When someone buys a product using your link on your website, Amazon will pay you a percentage.Write an eBook and sell it to the leads your captured.Sell merchandise. This can be stickers, t-shirts, and more to people that are reading your articles.Do Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate Marketing Made Simple: A Step-by-Step GuideThis is not something that will happen overnight. This will take about 2–3 months for you to do and start making money. But you if you put in the work then you will make thousands of dollars per month easily. If you need help or advice with any type of business or make money idea, I would love you connect with you (yes, YOU). What's something that you should never say to an I.T. person?
“Backups? What do you mean, ‘Backups’”?“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing asking me to update my computer. I just closed it.”Variants: “Oh, yeah, I saw that thing asking me to update my anti-virus. I just closed it. Did I do something bad?”“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing asking me to start the backup of my computer. I just closed it. Did I do something bad?”“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing telling me not to reboot my computer. I rebooted anyway. Did I do something bad?”“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing telling me not to turn off my computer. I did it anyway. Did I do something bad?”“Where is the ‘any’ key?”“You mean that email, offering a million dollars if I clicked the link? Of course I clicked it! Who doesn’t want a million dollars?”“You have no idea what you are doing!”Variants: “You’re an idiot”“How’d you become a computer tech? You’re so incompetent!”“My 7-year-old could do a better job than you!” (So why isn’t your seven year-old here now fixing your computer? Oh, right he’s behind a year in kindergarten doing ‘nap-time’ just now).— and then I fix the computer anyway.“Pay you? But you didn’t fix the computer the ‘right’ way!” (Usually said because the client is a cheapskate and chiseller, and doesn’t want to pay the bill).“But we’ve always done it that way!” (usually, obsoletely, inefficiently, or even incompetently).“The last tech did it differently” (So why isn’t HE here doing the work?)“Can I watch?” (No).“Have you tried … ?” (This can actually be helpful, once in every 20 times it’s said).“I know you spent an extra three hours, but can I just pay you for the first hour?” (Why? Are you a cheapskate?).“I prefer paying for MS Office than for that ‘free’ LibreOffice. If it’s free, it’s probably no good.” (Really? You want to pay for mediocre software?)“Ubuntu? What the hell crap software is that?” (Written ON THIS SITE by a die-hard Windows fanboy).“Linux is junk” (Yeah? Why does it run 70–80% of the Internet?)“signNow Flash is really beneficial to websites” (Said by a VERY new web-designer)“Windows is better than Linux/BSD/UNIX” (No comment).“WIndows is the best software in the world! It’s extremely secure and very unlikely to crash” (Again, no comment).“No-one uses Linux any more” (Again, Yeah? Why does it run 70–80% of the Internet?)“I know you’ve been working really hard to fix my computer; could you just please do …..” (Note to self: be prepared to do at least a dozen more tasks — for free).“Oh, thanks for your work in fixing my computer. But [long pause] … I don’t have any way to pay you. Can I pay you $5 every other month?” (She owed me $105; At that rate, she’d have paid me off in three-and-a-half years).“I have a ______ computer that’s ___ years out of date. Can you fix it with new parts?”(Said by an MCSE student): “Hey, when the 90-day version of Windows Server runs out, how do you reinstall it?” (What the HELL are you going to classes for? And what sort of crappy school is it that doesn’t teach its students how to install server software to future system administrators?)Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

What are some things you wish you knew when you started programming?
I’m a dental surgeon learning to code from scratch, and my answer is for the people who are going to start programming on their own, or have been trying for a few weeks without much success. I am only a few months ahead of you but let me tell you, I did my graduation in dentistry and have no previous knowledge of computer programming. So when I started, all my efforts were patently going futile. :DWhen people start off to learn how to code, there are common questions/fears that they struggle with:“I don’t know anything about computers, is it meant for me?”“What if the resource I am using to learn isn’t the best one?”“Would Python be a good language to start with?”“What if I am learning the wrong language?”“What if I am just not smart enough?”“What if I don’t know how to incorporate quotes or colons correctly in a paragraph?”“Do I need to learn Full-Stack JavaScript because it seems like the whole world is?”These are all healthy questions to initially ask yourself before you pick from the plethora of resources online on learning how to code. But if you stay in this stage forever, you will waste your time and eventually give up.I was stuck in this stage for too long. I played with Codecademy, but I don’t think I ever finished a single course. I started at least 2 courses on Udemy, but I never finished. I started FreeCodeCamp, but I never finished (I think I get a free pass on this one because no one has actually finished their material.). Anyway, my point is that I jumped around way too much, but I never finished. I didn’t have a sense of direction. I just started stuff, and when things got frustrating, I just googled for people’s opinions about the course to take for beginners or the first language to learn.I think I loved the idea of becoming a coder more than the coding itself.I didn’t have a sense of direction. I wasted way too much time allowing random people’s opinions to sway my learning process. The point I am trying to make is that the internet has a million resources to teach you how to code, but a billion more opinions on how to learn it. Do your research, but don’t waste your time on the research part. If you read great things on a course/bootcamp that seems legit, sign up and freaking do it! Do not obsess over the negative reviews. Reviews are biased. You will never find a resource out there that has 100% customer satisfaction. Stop googling other alternatives and wasting time instead of struggling through the actual process of coding and fixing bugs. If you don’t commit now to something and finish it, you will never take the next step. You will get stuck in the world of reading people’s opinions/blogs about how you should learn instead of actually learning. And then you will give up and hate yourself for giving up. There is nothing else better for your learning than to just do it.If I being a medical professional can learn the basics of Python, HTML, CSS, JS, jQuery and many other languages, so can you!Just be motivated, consistent and code! :D
