To enable a series of emails to be sent based on your criteria:1. you create a workflow rule on the Lead Object and set the filter criteria to match the conditions you want the rule to meet so that it can send emails.2. you create time triggers on the workflow for 1 day after lead created date, 2 days after lead created date, 28 days after lead created date, etc. After this you should have a workflow with as many time triggers as you want. 3. If you have not done so already, create your email templates in the setup menu under Administration Setup > Communicaiton Templates > Email Templates. Create as many emails that you need to send out.4. In your workflow rule, under each time trigger, add a new email task and add the first email template you would like to send. Do the same for all the remaining triggers.5. Now your workflow is complete, activate the workflow and voila!You will get step by step info by going to the help & Training link on the top right of your salesforce page.
