the amount paid to farmers has been over two billion dollars per year for nearly a decade our state ranks is one of the top in the country in broiler production and the largest egg production company in the world is headquartered in Mississippi the poultry industry may be big in Mississippi now Mississippi's growth into a world leader in poultry production began on a small scale in the early 1900's our nation's poultry industry was based in the Northeast and on the eastern seaboard in Mississippi poultry production was primarily limited to backyard chicken coops individual households growers and companies that has become a model for other states and finally in the 1990s the industry stretched out its wings to become a global influence American product demand worked hand in hand
