Cake bill format for Shipping
I don't know Annie Baker who enjoys making cake samples if you're not a brick and mortar store and that is a bakery who turns cakes around every single day because they have a really high footfall whereas if you are a home Baker you're just going to be making those cake samples when you have a sit-down consultation or if you're posting those cakes out so after years of doing this and trying very different methods I think I finally figured out how to put together just a few samples for just one to two customers in the most economical way and the quickest way possible now my first tip before I run through how I do this in this video is make sure your recipes are very quick and simple to make I've switched out from the cream in method to the all-in-one method recently that has sped things up twofold so just look at your practices and see where you can speed up your processes to make this bit a little bit simpler but let's just dive straight in and I'll show you the equipment I use and how I put together my cake sample boxes so the first thing I realized is bake your cakes in a loaf tin now the tin that I have is not the most Square looking I have been looking at some online that are very square or rectangle shaped these would be perfect to give you a really sharp edge but if you bake your cakes in a loaf tin then you're literally trimming off those edges cutting the top and then starting to slice them into the size that you wish for your cake samples so now all you have to do is trim the top off I have a really good serrated knife from pme it's so so sharp so perfect for things like this and then I just go in and I cut the edges off of the cake trying to keep this as straight as possible then cut in the very ends off and then I keep the base intact just so it makes it a little bit sturdier to work with so I'll take my ruler here and just figure out what size I want to cut these two and so I'm measuring it's about seven inches long the cake that I have so I reckon if I do about two and a half inches into three pieces then that should work quite nicely and I'm just going to trim those down and make them a little neater but as you can see we now have a block of cake which isn't huge for just about two people so I'll take the ends off just so it looks a bit better and you don't have that kind of crust between the layers now you can see you have a nice little Cube that you can cut into four or two pieces now because I only have one loaf tin I baked my chocolate cake in a four by four inch square tin and then I divided this into three Oblongs so they're a little under one and a half inches each so that I had three slices that I could then add some sugar syrup to and start to add the filling so I put my filling in a Piping Bag so that it's a lot neater and easier to add and I just do like a little squiggle because then you get this really nice pattern I find again it's just a little bit easier than filling up big slices of cake and then cutting them to size this for me works better that I can kind of control the portions that I'm making so we've just got some salted caramel here and to my bottom layer I will add my vanilla buttercream and just cut the bottom of your Piping Bag quite small so that it comes out slowly and that you have more control but you'll see when I stack this together you get this really cute little pattern underneath that's really nice so this is my bottom you can just flip them and I'm flipping that towards myself so as you can see that makes one slice and then this is my top let me just squish that together gently and I'm going to wrap that in cling film and then pop this one in the freezer and again chill your cakes my chocolate Cake's very soft so I freeze it because it doesn't firm up much in the fridge and it just makes it a lot easier to slice these really neatly so I have these acetate bags and I'm going to fold this in half and put this up against my cake slice because I just want it to fill half of the bag I'll put the sizes of these bags and where I bought them in the comments below so slicing my cake keep making sure the cake is really chilled nice and cold um I can open up that acetate bag nice and wide pop that on the side and then slide my knife underneath a slice of cake and then slide the cake into the bag this is the easiest way to do this and the neatest way and these bags are amazing it just saves you sitting there with little sheets of plastic and cling film trying to fold squares of cake so this is perfect and then what I just do is I fold over that side of plastic and then I fold over the top and I'll put a little pot down here just to keep the fold so that I can get some sellotape when I'm ready but just folding over that top until kind of a little bit of a triangle and then that looks really neat and well packaged so I'll go through this again I mean if you do this with all of your slices it will just look really tidy um another big thing is looking at the box that you are sending your samples in and making sure that your cake samples will fit again I'm awful with dimensions and measuring it's just not my strong point and I'm terrible with packaging so it's taken me a very long time to work out things but I have these really nice boxes that are quite deep in size again are lists Below in the comments the boxes that I use in the sizing and then I realize if my cakes are about an inch um in width and then about three inches in height roughly they will all fit quite neatly in this box all my cakes samples and flavors they're not exactly the same size as they are cut um and I'm happy with that for me it's just to get them looking neat tasting amazing of course and sat perfectly in the Box without them being squished when they go out to be posted so for me it's not Uber important that every single cake is exactly the same size and as you can see I can just slide these in they're super super big and generous size boxes so that I don't mess up when I'm cutting those cakes so now for the pretty part I have these A4 sheets of what is essentially baking paper and I asked this really amazing person on Etsy to print this funky pattern on here for me I've um made a Groove so that they fit really neatly into the box just measuring that up against the box and then doing a Groove so that the bottom sits in nicely and it just adds you know the pretty packaging and make it look really lovely and a little bit sanitary as well and then I'm just putting my cake slices in sideways so rather than doing it the kind of vertical way that a lot of people do I put mine in sideways and I have little stickers that I've handwritten for each flavor I sometimes have the ease printed but I find when I'm changing my flavor menu quite regularly it's just a little bit expensive to have to keep changing the prints of the stickers so at the moment I'm just handwriting them and then adding a little bit of um Like Straw like paper um under the first layer so that the next layer can just be packaged nicely and slightly protected as well and then I have this Gap you see I have to kind of play around a bit with these and just see what fits perfectly so that they don't get squished and I'm leaving a little bit of a gap you can see at the side of the boxes because the little flaps come in there so that's another thing just to keep in mind depending on the type of packaging that you choose so put those in neatly and then I have my fun paper straw here and I'm going to pack that in the side and then put this little personalized cookie that I made um these are cute they're a little addition very quick and easy to make you can see it has this very pretty Little Flower embossed on there and a little thank you and this also advertises that I offer wedding flavor favors and um and I can you know and you're not just limited to purchasing a cake with me for example so to add a little cookie or a macaron or something is a really cute idea and then I kind of come in I'll put some more shredded paper and then a little bit of bubble wrap what I try and do with my packaging is really limit the amount of plastic and things that you can't necessarily reuse or recycle um obviously I have to use some bubble wrap because I don't want the cakes to be damaged but I just try and use paper and things like that where possible of course bubble butt wrap can be reused I hold on to all the bubble wrap I receive in my packaging and then I reuse it for projects like this and then finally I put a little thank you card with instructions of how to unpackage and when to eat your cakes along with a little bit of marketing some really cool Instagram follow me on Instagram stickers that are nice and bright and I'll pop that onto the box too so all your information including your contact number and website and hygiene rating is perfect to add to the inside of these boxes especially if the customer hasn't had any contact with you beforehand and there we go let's go ready to be posted out
