Computer repair invoice for Sales
besides carrying a mammoth hog my whole life I'm also carrying the burden of owning a repair shop in an industry that has been slowly dying due to factors created and controlled by greedy corporations factors that could be easily eliminated if our politicians chose to re in big techs and satiable blood Lust For profits instead of euthanizing people's pet squirrels and raccoons rest in peace Fred and peanut in this video I'm going to share my experience as a repair shop owner struggling with the biggest op obstacle that is slowly killing my business by preventing me from doing my job correctly and that obstacle is buying parts at the same time I'll be repairing and upgrading a top-of-the-line device where I demonstrate firsthand how this purposeful obstruction can detour even the simplest repairs causing a perfectly capable device to end up in a landfill Go-Gurt have you ever had a Gogurt are you talking to me are you alive what the hell yeah I've had you had a Gogurt having a Gogurt did you ever punch yourself in the face trying to squeeze out what those popsicles um what are those things called the Frozen sticks you know when you're trying to get the sugar out of it and you squeeze it like that how would you do that [Music] again not getting me twice I remember when I was a kid I busted my lip from I'm not going to from squeezing it mhm and it slipped cuz it got it get it gets wet blast my lip that's what she said yeah excuse me for eating this on camera I'm tight on time I got your your mother in a few minutes so what's on the agenda today I already know why do I ask you this question Lupe hates yogurts guys Lup can't stand yogurt no I can't stand Greek yogurt it smells like oh I thought I got you vanilla whoops that's why I said that's why I made a joke I asked for the sarento snack pack and a vanilla yogurt you got me food Club snack pack and a peach yogurt and you forgot the 5H Hour Energy successful trip those scratch off tickets are more important I don't blame you on that so I I was like yo I don't see the vanilla so I saw the vanilla and I thought I grabbed the vanilla it was in the vanilla section maybe cuz I was read the label on the Lunchable you can read oh yeah the Lunchable the Lunchable never forget l his lunchable today I had a cheat day today garbage you know what you should buy lunch speed all right speed all right speed okay speed today we have an actual good HP this is what HP can make if they actually applied themselves just think of if you actually applied yourself instead of playing Black Ops 6 24 hours a day the things you could do so this zbook uh let me see if I can remember this zbook G4 X2 let's see I took the screen off cuz I'm already repairing it but HP zbook X2 G4 damn it is that what I said G4 TV baby G4 TV Rest In Peace So this is a really really really cool laptop running a 7th gen i7 you guys probably don't care about the specs who watches these for the tech anyways uh but it's a very nice laptop it's a touch screen it has look at these little buttons on the side I don't know what they do but they look functional really cool has the anti-glare film on the screen and it has this little kickstand right here little kickstand H it has two USBC ports headphone jack and it has this this is a detachable keyboard it is a very nice computer uh I actually really like this so it's crazy when you see this that HP also made this absolute piece of garbage trash consumer laptop with a hinge that is glued in look at this look at this that's glue are you seeing that some tough glue yeah oh uh this HP is here to get some upgrades he wants a new SSD upgrade the SSD to a bigger one he wants more RAM and this is a very important part of the video he wants a new battery simple enough it's actually not simple this thing is kind of kind of sketchy to repair because you have to remove the display which I already did which is why I'm not doing it again uh because it was very sketchy to remove this it takes a lot of uh it takes a lot of dexterity for my raccoon like fingers to get this removed without breaking it I don't have any Beast with that design though because it doesn't require any adhesive to be removed or anything like that like on the piece of Microsoft surfaces where you have to remove the adhesive from the bezel this doesn't require it I will give credit where credit is due and HP absolutely deserves credit on this machine and don't worry these aren't spy holes in the display just a webcam and two IR sensors because even HP knows being spied on is creepy but the reality is we're all spied on by corporations who collect our info and sell it to basically any company that wants to make money off of it and though most countries do have laws to remove ourselves from these lists doing so is so involved and timec consuming barely any of us take advantage of it cuz let's be real ain't nobody got time for that thankfully services like incog exist which is a personal information removal service it's something my wife and I have been using for a few months now and I'm proud to have them as today's video sponsor because this is personal to me a few years ago my wife's identity was compromised and someone filed unemployment benefits under her name we had to freeze her credit change her cards and do a ton of other timeconsuming steps it was an incredibly stressful process that took countless hours and cost us hundreds and lost Revenue but the best way to prevent this from happening in the first place is to have your personal information removed before malicious actors can exploit it which is exactly what incog does all you do is sign up which takes like 10 seconds then incog sends requests to these data Brokers and follows up until the job is done and if one of the Brokers starts giving lip or is dragging their feet incog hounds them like a crazy X until the job is done and you're taking off these lists they provide updates and you can see their progress reports every month so you can actually see your data being reclaimed and these Brokers aren't just using your data to send you annoying spam emails or non-stop Robo calls which have become the norm of today they're selling your info to those creepy people's search sites where your info is at the mercy of stalkers and Weirdos that want to know where you keep your toothbrush at night even health insurance companies will buy this data and use your web history to raise your premiums which just puts a cherry on top of this dystopian hellscape that is web privacy incog doesn't let this slide so whenever a new record pops up on a data brok her site they'll automatically take care of it by conducting repeated removal requests so your data stays off this sketchy market for as long as you use the service so if you're interested in taking back your privacy use code Salem texperts at the link below to get an exclusive 60% off an annual incognate plan and watch as they fight sketch balls to take back your privacy just like I fight for the right to buy a battery so I've never worked on one of these before so if I break it you guys are going to see firsthand look at that almost broke it we're off to a terrible start all right definitely going to disconnect this battery so this is the reason I wanted to make this video is this battery when you bring your computer to a repair shop you're expecting that repair shop to have some sort of magical supplier for their batteries and for their parts right they don't they don't when it comes to something like specific we might know a plug uh for example for Dell Parts I go to parts people the second greatest technician that's ever lived the greatest Dell technician that's ever lived he sells Parts on his website um that company is awesome but they can only sell the parts that Dell makes available to them them HP sells some parts to certain companies for their Distributors Lenovo sells some to their Distributors but 99% of laptops and devices in general I'm going to lob in phones there as well don't sell genuine parts the battery is always the biggest struggle here because it's the most common repair batteries are the only thing that's guaranteed to to have to be replaced on your computer it happens in your car right it happens in your phone anything with a battery that battery is going to eventually need to be replaced so why isn't it a law that companies are forced to make batteries available for x amount of years in the EU I believe it's a law now no the US will never have any laws the guys that are with me from way back you guys might remember I was a big right to repair guy I spent countless hours of my time driving into Boston testifying uh to my State uh lobbying making videos making press statement dude I spent so much time fighting for right to repair partly for a selfish reason right because I wanted my business to be in business and I one of my main points was if we don't get right to repair in Massachusetts I'm going out of business because this is the struggle I always deal with and we didn't get right to repair and I'm no longer offering repairs to the my consumers here I now I pick and choose what repairs I take in and 99% of repairs I refuse and I don't refuse them because I don't want to do them right I refuse them because I can't get parts as simple as a battery now this battery we could not find on eBay could we nope nope the places that we're selling it genuine we clearly not genuine what a lot of companies will do they'll take this casing they'll cut it see how it's kind of glued in right here they'll cut the casing they'll replace the cells and then they'll repackage it and say it's a genuine battery they'll keep that there and sometimes like I I'm going to show you in this screenshot right here they put a sticker over the manufacturer logo and it says void if removed so if you remove that sticker you're you're voiding their warranty which of course isn't enforcable but that's how they get you on on eBay so you can't even check to see if it's genuine I couldn't find this not a genuine one Co but I did find an aftermarket one but this is the problem we don't have a reliable source for Batteries man we don't have a reliable source for parts and this is just the tip of the iceberg and that's kind of what I wanted to explain in this video I stopped doing repairs for so many different computers and for phones altogether simply because of the lack of quality replacement Parts the parts that we get are the same ones that you see on eBay and on Amazon it's not like we have some secret supplier a large portion of my income back in the day was laptop LCD screen replacements now what happened was a lot of laptops now have a fused screen where the LCD is fused to the touch screen so you can't replace just the glass you can't replace just the touch screen you have to replace it as a whole I'm going to use razor as an example on this one I did a video a while ago probably a year ago where I had personally I had a Razer that I bought with a broken screen in attempts to resell it in the hopes of reselling it and Razer would not sell me a screen it was a proprietary 4K screen beautiful screen it was an OLED 4K screen but Razer wouldn't sell me the replacement part and that replacement part did not exist anywhere it wasn't on AliExpress it wasn't on Alibaba it wasn't on eBay I knocked on your mother's door it wasn't there I went to the guy that sells fentol out of a trench coat he didn't have it and I had no choice but to send it to Razer and they charged me6 $100 yeah it was up there they charged me 100 bucks to just look at it it was a broken screen and that is very frustrating all these perfectly good computers and phones are ending up in the landfill because you can't get a simple part Razer was my example another example even if you can get the part right you have a Lenovo Yoga or a hpx 360 you can find those screens on eBay but those screens are aftermarket screens and those screens have been replaced so they've been refurbished what happens is whatever supplier they get the broken screen they remove the glass they remove the LCD screen underneath and then they put on a new screen with new glass the problem is that the new screen is never the same quality because they're not getting the same glass that the supplier got um the original supplier like HP and it's usually misaligned the bezels have zero there's like no room for error on the the bezels they're so thin when the glass doesn't align properly with the frame that it's glued to this plastic bezel right here is glued to the screen itself it looks like this might not be glued I'm not sure it doesn't matter but I'm just using this as a point when they replace these for the aftermarket parts even if it's misaligned by a millimeter when I that into a customer's device that means that the it won't be perfect it won't be perfect I I can't click it in the bezel won't fit it'll look weird the quality of the screen like the display it might be like fuzzy because the glass is different there's always some sort of problem with the parts and it got to the point where I stopped offering repairs for LCD screen so that was a huge chunk of my profit that was gone because it simply wasn't worth the problems the issues that I was having it was hours at a time I would spend trying to get this part that clearly doesn't work to get it to fit on a computer it wouldn't work so that's a huge chunk of my Revenue gone because I can't get a part a simple part a screen a battery so the two most common Replacements right here two most common problems screen replacement battery replacement you can't you can't get either now a lot of you guys might not remember this or might not even know this but I used to repair phones that was a large part of my business back in the day oh look at that huh I remembered that how many of you don't remember that cuz I usually don't remember that why don't this board come out snap oh yeah forgot to remove that I used to repair phones and I sto repairing phones oh look at that they're all the same size nice beautiful but I stopped repairing phones not because I didn't want to because I like money most people like money I stopped repairing phones because the part availability and the part quality was so bad that I was having more repairs come back than it was even worth than it was even worth it was uh it was quite miserable and a story that I always wanted to share is when I got Co for the first time sorry the second time I got Co that's when you got we both got Co and a few days before I replaced a screen it was an iPhone XS Max or something 11 Pro Max I get the best quality parts that I can possibly get from injured gadgets and from mobile Centric these are the two main suppliers the two major suppliers in the United States I would always get the Top ofthe Line refurbished like original screens aftermarket glass Parts it's the best that you can get it was an 11 Pro Max and this lady brought it here because she was giving it to her son for his birthday the next day she was going to go over there and activate it the next day for his birthday or was it the that weekend I forget regardless replaced the screen went home you know and then next few days I'm dying literally freaking dying can't breathe and I get an angry phone pH call angry voicemail angry text messages that screen was Ghost touching by itself she was at T-Mobile trying to get it activated and she couldn't even press next in the midst of me having covid I came over here fixed her screen I'm telling you I I I don't even know how I drove I probably shouldn't even have been driving but I drove over here4 de fever I put her old screen back on I put the old broken screen back on because I didn't have any any other screens cuz the screens cost 150 bucks back then and that's it that that's and that's only one of a million stories I have I had another story I replaced an iPhone 8 plus screen and something happened I think the person they saw a car accident they tried to call 911 and it wouldn't work the screen wouldn't work there was no touch on the screen and you might see I don't repair phones anymore I don't repair phones anymore because of this so that's one less service I can offer to my community because I can't get replacement parts and now they do offer genuine replacement parts but they're priced so expensive that it doesn't make sense for the customer to even replace it with me um versus going to Apple or just doing it themselves or whatever so that's the reason I stopped doing uh phone repairs now I'm going to show a clip right here where I emptied out all the defects I had from 2 months of doing phone repairs these were all the defects that I had and every single one of those defects is at least 2 hours of wasted time having to go back and forth with the customer have them come back that's a wasted trip it's not just the loss of Revenue that happens here it's the mental toll that it takes on you imagine if Michelangelo not saying that I'm the greatest technician that's ever lived or anything but imagine if Michelangelo tried to paint the cinee chapel and the paint was defective imagine if the paint ran or something like that I'm not a paint spert but that's what it feels like when you do a repair and you do everything right man perfectly you do your job perfectly and the repair comes back because the part is bad it wears you down man like it really wears you down mentally with that said let's clone over this drive so we're going to clone over this 256 GB drive to a 1 TB WD black now this is our sophisticated uh cloning station all you have to do is oh no we got to get you to a hospital oh shoot oh hey I was looking for that all right now there's no sleep for the wicked clone disc we're going to clone this disc okay our Target disc is going to be this guy okay and we are going to rearrange these partitions so I actually want this guy over here there we go copy all files and when finished I want it to shut down that way we know it's finished and we're going to start all right well that's cloning I'm just going to upgrade the RAM which just simply plug the ram in and I'm going to do the thermal past which you guys have seen me do a billion times now I know this isn't like my normal videos where you know the whole thing is a skit it's a joke and all that stuff I've been meaning to make a video like this for a while now because I feel like besides lwis Rossman uh no one really sees how difficult it is to run a repair shop and the different types of problems that we run into not to keep repeating myself and beat a dead horse cuz in every video I'm telling you how difficult it is I wanted to give you guys a more indepth Glimpse with examples of the little things that add up over time that make it so difficult to run and operate a repair shop and it's not just me it's every sort of repair shop nowadays it's mechanics um it's you know cars scooters phones computers it's really everything now the reliable replacement parts are just becoming so non-existent I don't know what we can do about it the EU at least is doing something about it but here in the United States I gave up entirely I don't think we'll ever have a meaningful right to repair laws so that's why I started making dick jokes on YouTube as a career instead of actually fixing things shout out to LS Rossman because he worked so hard for so long to try to save this industry but unfortunately just like he concluded it was a a complete waste because it's never going to happen once you see the inside politics involved uh it's just not going to happen and I hope you guys at least get some sort of information valuable information in this video um I hope I'm not just ranting for 10 minutes 20 minutes or whatever this is I I do hope you you learn something um maybe you can do something about it in the future those of you out there that are Engineers or future Engineers keep designing things to be repairable that's how you can help anybody that is politically active you know help us out by trying to get them the prioritize laws that make right to repair a right instead of just uh you know whatever it is now so that's how it works trying to get this PTM on it's always the hardest part of this goddamn thing with the PTM finally applied correctly it's time to temporarily assemble the rest of the device to make sure the Clone worked [Music] [Applause] [Music] and it did the new battery will arrive this week so fingers crossed it actually works and for my fellow shop owners here in the US I'd love to hear from you whether you own an auto shop or a computer repair business like mine I'm curious what your experience has been the past few years and what you think is going to happen to your industry and as always thank you so much for watching your viewership has been my life raft off this sinking ship especially those of you who have become members very special thanks to the greatest supporters that ever lived whose names you see here besides your mothers I don't know what I'd do without you all so thank you enjoy these bloopers almost drooled [Music] run actually stop so go back sorry
