"Well, there is the whole idea of the "s" sound and that's basically where we found the idea for our eSignature," explains Jorgen Jens, an associate professor in the university's department of information science and technology. "So the eSignature essentially would be a way for an entity in the global public record to prove a certain amount of personal information about that entity."The eSignature, according to Jens, would be used to prove a person's identification and to prove an e-mail address was created by that person and, therefore, an e-mail address was sent to them."We can actually do some really interesting things with some of the data we've been collecting so far," adds Jens, "but the whole idea of a global, secure global public record that we can use all over the world is pretty amazing."Jens's colleagues at the Center for Information Security, including doctoral students and undergraduate engineering students, are the ones creating the eSignature for their fellow citizens."We're really looking forward to this because there's really lots of potential for data that isn't necessarily public, but could easily be kept private," says James Meehan, the director of the Center for Information Security.The data the eSigners are gathering is, in many ways, a snapshot of how citizens of this country and around the world are using the Internet, including social networking and online shopping, the Center reports."What you're seeing in these data sets is that we're...
