hey what's going on everybody it is your boy Tim back with another video in today's video we're going to be talking about Alaska seafood processing jobs now these are summer jobs that are great for people who a have always wanted to travel to Alaska and be want to stack up a good amount of money in a short period of time so these are summer jobs in Alaska typically three or four months is as long as your contract will be and when you go there you can actually make some really good money so I know a lot of people have seen like the TV shows let's show the people out on the boats catching the fish and catching the crab these aren't those jobs we're not talking about the jobs and making those kind of money and risking your life to to catch king crab we're not talking that however when those people go out and catch the fish when you know you know the job doesn't stop then someone has to actually process those fish cut those fish up clean them up get the guts out the tail the hand all that other stuff and get those fish ready to go to restaurants or to stores these are the jobs are talking about so most of the time these jobs take place on land there are some that do it on the boats but most the time they take place on land and the season like I said is usually in the summer three to four months and it depends on the type of fish like different processing places do different types of fish so depending on the fish that is processed at your plant depends on when you might work and there's lots of different companies there's a ton of companies that do seafood processing in Alaska and the surprising thing is they are always hiring in the summer this time of year when I'm making this video December January the best time to apply because they need lots of people because as the fish come in they gotta get processed the fish don't get processed they at their own you know there's only a short shelf life for these fish once you get them out of the water so they need as many bodies as possible to process these fish so they can sell them but it is in Alaska not a ton of people in Alaska already and most of the natives to Alaska already have like really good jobs okay because once again not a lot of people there the jobs that have to be done they have to pay a little more so a lot of these seafood processing jobs there's no one locally to do them so every year this time of year these places are always hiring now full disclaimer I've never worked in one of these places I have applied at them and I've gotten the jobs but just never went it just didn't work out I've been to Alaska and seen the processing plants I've done extensive research on them I've talked to people who worked at them but I've never done it personally however I still feel qualified to talk about it in this video so I want to talk about some of the pros some of the good things to Alaska seafood processing jobs one of them is the pay like I said you're not going to be making the type of money that the people were going on the ships are making but most of the jobs start anywhere from 10 to 13 dollars an hour and before you say those no good money to someone always does in the comments there's a ton of overtime so the good money doesn't come which is your regular hourly rate the good money comes with the overtime and the reason there's lots of overtime is because when these fish start coming in they basically work you as much as they can when you interview with any of these companies they will always say are you comfortable being on your feet 12 to 16 hours a day and that's you end up working 16 hours a day three weeks in a row sometimes like as long as you want to work you can work okay and so anything over 42 hours a week is overtime so I mean if you're working 16-hour days on your third day you're on overtime if you work seven days that week you can do the math so and you're working so much you don't have time to spend any of your money most of these places provide you with meals they kind of have to because you don't have time to cook or go out and prepare you know or get your own food so most these places give you a place to stay they provide your meals so you don't have anything to spend your money on and you don't have any time to spend your money so by the time you know that three weeks of you working every single day for 15 hours is up you've got a good chunk of change already saved up and you've still got you know two three more months in the season so this is the reason why I really recommend Alaska seed with processing jobs they're great great way to get to Alaska and also have a decent amount of money in a short amount of time also to when it comes to getting to Alaska a lot of these companies are so desperate for people to work for them that they will pay for your travel they won't a lot of them will pay for your travel there and your travel back home this is like unheard of and any other like seasonal entry-level jobs and these jobs are entry-level you don't need any experience in filleting fish or catching fish or any of that these jobs are entry-level and this is unheard of the travel and almost any other entry-level seasonal job where they will pay for your travel there and your travel home there are some stipulations like you do have to finish the season to get the travel home you can't just go for three weeks and be like I'm ready to go home where's my plane ticket oh you do have to finish the season but as far as your travel there a lot of the companies they just say hey tell us you know what where you're coming from and we'll send you the ticket so that's something if you're broke maybe if you're going through a little dry spell like we all do you want to go somewhere and stack some money up this is a good way to do it without having to have any upfront travel money or anything like that these companies will cover this for you another good thing you're in Alaska okay I've been to Alaska many times it's one of my favorite States one of my top two states in the Union I think everyone should go I recommend it to everyone there are tons of summer jobs in Alaska this is one I just recommend for people who like to work hard and want to stack up some money a lot of the other seasonal jobs excuse me I got this blue thing that will not go away but um you know we're keeping this video wrong we're keeping it real so not a headache not editing the coughs out nothing you know if the information means something to you you'll listen despite the costs I don't know something's in the air after everyone around me is sick it's crazy but yeah it's a great way to get to see Alaska okay nothing says that you just have to go up work come back home you can go up work and then when they're gonna pay for your plane ticket home tell them you want to wait you know a week or so and then spend a week exploring Alaska oh yeah Alaska's a beautiful state I highly recommend everybody go if there's someone who's willing to pay for you to go and then give you money while you're there I say jump on it take it so um I wrote an article about Alaska seafood really anytime I here check it out and see and as link directly links directly to their employment page okay so a lot of people might talk about Alaska see for processing jobs and then they'll send you to some website that really is like a backdoor way for them to try to get like your personal information stuff like that not the article I wrote the links go straight to like you know an employment pages you can fill out application you can be filling out applications within like two minutes from now a minute from now so definitely check them out and and for people who might be concerned it is not cold in Alaska in the summertime okay people ask me this all the time no it's 7080 degrees in the summertime depending on where you're at but it's not cold in Alaska this summer it's pretty much like any other like northern state they have a summer now when you're processing fish you might be indoors or it's gonna be really cold because the fish have to stay the colder they are they better preserve they are however outside in Alaska don't think it's gonna be like frozen tundra like conditions it's just like summer and you know New York or Washington or something like that also too when it comes to working at the seafood processing companies most of them will provide you the gear you need so don't think you're gonna need to travel with boots and rain gear and and fish cutting knives and all this most of them will provide everything you need you just need to show up bring a good work ethic bring the open mind and be willing to work and like I said in the interviews one of the things they try to like hone in your head is that you're going to be working this is not an eight hour a day job five days a week no this is work work work work work the people I've talked to really liked work and loved it I've talked to some people who did it and maybe it sucks but they got through it they liked the money they made but if you're a person who's just like a real go-getter and you love working you love making money this is definitely job look into you know like I said it comes around every summer a lot of the companies have like different perks for returners because I want you to come back they are always hiring I've never seen a season where any of these companies we're like nope we're good they're always hiring because it's hard to find people who want to do it season in and season out but if it's something you might be interested please check it out you might find a nice little you know different way of living it's a great way to get
